Supergirl News On DC:The Source

Some previews of Supergirl are now being showcased on the new DC Blog, The Source. Here is the link: http://dcublog.dccomics.com/2009/04/15/some-supergirl-art-to-close-out-the-day/

The first preview is a couple of pages from Supergirl #41. Remember, this is the last issue of the 'Who is Superwoman?' story arc and supposedly takes place after Superwoman has revealed herself to Kara.

The first sneak page shows that a battle is ongoing with Supergirl fighting Reactron and Superwoman.

Nice semi-splash here of Supergirl face-planting Superwoman into a wall.

The next sneak page shows Kara on the losing end of the battle. Reactron gloats over her, Gold K spilling from his chest.

I pity the police officers who are trying to stop Reactron. I don't think they are long for this world.

Unfortunately, nothing on these pages to add to the 'Who is Superwoman?' mystery. In fact, I find it interesting that Superwoman is still wearing the cowl.

Also shown is the cover of Supergirl #43, a stunning picture of Kara flying happily in the sky.

We have seen this picture before. Joshua Middleton actually had it posted on his blog waayyyyy back in February 2008! Here is the link including a nice breakdown from rough sketch to finished piece: http://joshuamiddleton.blogspot.com/2008/02/supergirl.html

This doesn't take away from how great this cover is. Unfortunately, it doesn't clue us in to anything happening in the issue either.

No matter what, it was good to see Supergirl promoted on DC's blog.

Man do Jamal's pencils for #41 look totally sweet at that! 8D

Er, question: so Supergirl #40 (due out next week) is going to be a fill in issue done by Talent Cadwell (sp?) instead of Jamal, yeah? :/

I'm surprised that is the cover. I thought it would appear on the trade cover. I don't know why, perhaps because it seemed like a 'spare'. Speaking of trades have I mentioned how annoyed I am New Krypton is called Superman:New Krypton for trade when it contains Supergirl comics as well?! Would giving Supergirl a co-lead credit really hurt sales?

I look forward to that issue. I suck at these guessing games so I only think of Lucy and Alura, with Lucy as my top choice for Sw.

Another rather 'hot topic' on DC boards is Supergirl's costume, there are different opinions about it and I recently found a drawing I did in the 90s of my own design for a costume and re-draw it (so it would be less painful to the eyes) and wanted to share it here:

Of course my favorite costume is the movie costume so I drew her using it too, but shortened the cape and made her cape attachments less bulky so her neck is more visible, like more female.

Leave a comment on my DA page :)

I'm looking forward to Supergirl's face-off with Superwoman. I haven't been this excited for a superhero showdown since Superman II.

The cover of Supergirl #43 reminds me of an online article last year that states that Supergirl symbolizes bliss. Middleton captures that well as we see Kara being happy with who she is.

I agree that it is a wonderful shot of a happy Supergirl. It reminds me of the promo pic Jamal did when he was given the book ... another shot of Kara in the clouds smiling.

Great stuff ... as always.

Thanks for sharing.

Hey Anj--

I love that cover a lot, actually. Like, a LOT.

I just wanted to hop on and clarify some art stuff: the penciller on Supergirl #40 (out next week!) is Jamal Igle.

Oh, and wait'll you see what he drew on pages 6 & 7. It's so, so awesome. =)

The penciller on Supergirl #41 is the very, very talented Fernando Dagnino (whose pages you posted above), and then Jamal comes back for Supergirl #42!

Hope that helps,
Sterling

Whoa ... if this is Sterling Gates, thanks very much for posting.

And thanks for clearing up the art credits. I thought Talent Caldwell was scheduled for an issue somewhere along the way.

Can't wait for next week.
