Supergirl Show Lego

 DC Fandome was this last weekend and I am still sifting through the coverage to see if any Supergirl news came  out of it.

One thing we did see last week is that an exclusive Supergirl lego mini-figure was made for the  event and given to some lucky people.

It is a clearly Kara from the show. Whether it is the bangs or the pants, there is no denying this is a cool figure based on Melissa Benoist

I love it, especially for the bangs! Too cute.

I can only hope that this becomes available to all people and in all lego-carrying venues.

DC Superhero Girls Lego Videos

I knew that DC Superhero Girls had become a Lego property. And any sort of cross-pollination of these characters into different arenas is appreciated. Heck, think of how much the Lego Batman video games and movies have done to bring DC characters into people's homes.

What I didn't know was that there are Lego DC Superhero Girls videos being produced and available on YouTube. There are a few to watch, most including Supergirl, and they all are a ton of fun.

 I know I am not the target audience but they are fun. If you enjoy DCSHG or the Lego movies, you probably will get a kick out of these.

Lego DC Superhero Girls!

Supergirl and the DC Superhero Girls are everywhere. They have a website, animated shorts, full length features, graphic novels, and Happy Meal toys. And now they are making the jump to full fledged Lego!

For me, there are some things that need to be said.

First off, who would ever think that a Supergirl toy would be announced in Time Magazine. I grew up in an era where Time was the staid and reserved 'high water mark' of news journalism. I don't know if this shows that the geeks have inherited the Earth or that news journals need to cover entertainment like this, but I can't believe Supergirl is in Time. 

Second, there is a bit of a spoiler in this fluff piece. That has to be Lena on the left. So Lena Luthor will be part of the DC Superhero Girls line. And she'll be wearing the Bronze Age classic Luthor armor. Now that is news!

Looks like Supergirl will only be available in the big Super Hero High set. But there's a Krypto one! And is that Lashina? Lashina in a kid's toy? This world is crazy.

Still .... Supergirl in Time Magazine! Incredible!   

Lego: Cosmic Clash

As much as I wish that I had unlimited time and funds to see and read everything Supergirl, it just can't be done. And some things simply slip through the cracks. And one of those things was the Girl of Steel's appearance in last year's Lego movie Justice League:Cosmic Clash.

I covered the announcement of the movie when it first came out but never saw it until this last weekend when it was shown on Cartoon Network.

It is clearly a movie made for kids filled with silly slapstick action and some underpants jokes but for the more grizzled fans of DC Comics, there was plenty of stuff for me to enjoy. While I am going to concentrate on Supergirl's role and the appearance of the Legion in the movie there is plenty of stuff I have to highlight.

The basic plot is that Brainiac wants to shrink Earth and put it in his collection. When his shrink ray is damaged by the JL, he returns with a different ship and sends Superman, Green Lantern, and Wonder Woman into different time periods to remove them from Earth's defenses. Batman then needs to rescue those three and bring them back. He uses the Flash and a Cosmic Treadmill attached to the Batmobile to rush through time. Meanwhile, the rest of the League has to defend Earth.

Things I loved that aren't Supergirl.
Brainiac is sort of played as a quintessential comic collector, demanding that his collection be organized perfectly. The planets need to be in mint condition. And the bottle they are in need to be unopened, like keeping toys in their packaging. We even get a glimpse at Colu.

Batman is played as the primary hero and is a sort of straight man for the rest of the team. We hear about his paranoid schemes to defeat the other members. But the Dark Knight does learn a lesson about lightening up. In one scene from the past, he is pirate gear and jumps a shark over a boat. I wonder if that is a 'jump the shark' joke.

Superman is a shining model of country boy goodness. Wonder Woman is strong and admirable. The Flash is a frenetic hero with fun lines. Green Lantern is brash hero who thinks he can't be beat. And Cyborg brings some youthful energy to the team.

And the way Brainiac is defeated is a silly play on his compulsion to be a collector.

Ah, but there is a lot of Supergirl and Legion stuff too!

So Much Supergirl Merchandise!

It would be so simple to declare 2016 as the year of Supergirl, She has never had so much mainstream exposure. And, not surprising, with an increased presence and with 11million fans viewing each week, more and more Supergirl merchandise is being announced. After all, those fans might want to spend money on their new favorite character. I already have a Supergirl show-style statue and a Darwyn Cooke-style Supergirl action figure on layaway.

At the recent NY Toy Fair, several new Supergirl toys and statuettes were announced. Frankly, I don't think I'll have enough room or money for all these. But we'll see ...

The first news I heard was on a 5 figure pack being released based on the main characters in the New Adventures of Batman and Robin episode 'Girls Night Out'. Here is the information:

Now I reviewed 'Girls Night Out' here; it is a show I absolutely love. I love the Supergirl of the DC Animated Universe and would definitely want to add this to my collection. But I don't think I can spring the money for the 5-pack if I really only want Supergirl. (Although they all look slick and who wouldn't want that Livewire.) I wonder if they will sell these as individual figures.

As cool as that 5-pack is, I have to say I love this one more. Funko is finally making a Supergirl Funko Pop! figure. Here is an official instagram from the Fair:

I am so happy this is the Matrix version of the costume, my favorite. It is close enough to the television show that it will cross-pollinate both comic and TV fans.

I can't tell you how hard it was as a Kara fan to walk by a huge wall of these figures and see that Supergirl wasn't available. I mean, everybody seems to have a Pop!figure. So glad Supergirl if finally getting one!

This Supergirl figure is just sweet!

And then we got word that Mattel is doing 6in. action figures for Batman v Superman (although the sign on the back says DC Comics Multiverse) and included in that is Supergirl, clearly based on the television show. I don't think Supergirl is in the movie (I actually hope she isn't). But how can I not want to grab this!

And don't forget that DC Superhero Girls is bringing the fun. It was just announced that Superhero Girls merchandise will be available in March 2016 exclusively at Target. I don't know if I'll grab the more Barbie style doll. But an action figure! Count me in!

So I better start saving my money!

As I said, you could be tempted to name 2016 the year of Supergirl. But until I get a monthly comic, I don't know if I can go there yet.

Supergirl Christmas Gifts

The Holiday season is unfortunately behind us meaning I have to face the drudgery of the upcoming winter.

But there is still time to reminisce about the holidays and to share some Supergirl gifts that happened this season.

First off, I have to thank my friend Russell Burbage for sending me this great Christmas gift, a Paul Kupperberg autographed Supergirl postcard. This postcard is based on the Daring New Adventures of Supergirl #1 postage stamp of 2006. Just So fantastic!

To be honest, I had no idea that postcards were made of these stamps to begin with!

What a great addition to my Supergirl collection! The postcard alone would be fantastic! But adding the Kupperberg autograph makes this priceless.

The figure alone would be a great gift, but the packaging is great. It looks like Supergirl is saying 'hello' to the world.

If I was promoting the CBS show, I would have a poster of Supergirl floating in the sky with just "Hello" above her. Tell me that would not get people's attention.

Lego Set 76040: Brainiac Attack - Supergirl!

Is it too late for me to contact Santa Claus and let him know I really really want this Lego set!

It features a Supergirl figure! And a Martian Manhunter figure!

I don't think I want it! I think I need it!!

Here is the picture of the figure you get when you head to Lego. It isn't the New 52 costume and looks much more Matrixy. That is a big win for me.

And if you look closely at the box, it looks like she might have a reversible face. The one on the box looks like she has glowing red eyes and a stern look. The one above looks happier.

If it looks like this one featured in the Lego Batman game I'll be thrilled! A pleated red skirt! My favorite look!
