DC Dynamics Supergirl Statue

My Supergirl collection continues to grow as 2010 comes to a close. It is pretty amazing just how many items are coming out in a short period of time as well as the serendipitous Pepsi Glass purchase.

This last week the DC Dynamics Supergirl statue came out. I have to say I like it very much, more that I thought I would based on the pictures on the DC Direct website.

These Dynamic statues are supposed to be action shots, conveying a sense of motion. Here Supergirl is supposed to be swirling and twirling among the clouds as she celebrates her powers. Certainly, that sense of action is here as her body sort of blurs into red and blue streaks. I also likes how some of the streaks are translucent.

This is a full shirt, blue skirted Supergirl, so we are looking at a Silver Age Supergirl here. I think that sort of innocent backdrop works well this carefree flight through the clouds. I am always a fan of the pointed sleeves so even though those weren't around back then, I was glad to see them.

My biggest concern with the statue was the face which didn't look too good on the website. It seemed a bit too happy, bordering on creepy or Stepford wife-y.

I'm thrilled to say that it looks more natural on the real thing.

For completeness sake, her is a shot of the back of the statue. The base of the statue is hollow so I wonder, given the clear sections, how it would look if I could sneak a small light underneath.

It is a very pricey statue, selling for $195. I ordered it when it was first solicited and had a layaway plan at my local comic book store, chipping away at the final price with a couple of bucks each week. It is beautiful.

The Superwoman action figure comes out in early December and the Turner mini-statue as well as the Cover Girls of the DCU are out in January. Once those get added, I'll put up photos of the collection in its entirety.

DC Dynamics Supergirl Statue

It looks like I am going to have to start saving some pennies and clearing a spot in the shrine for a new Supergirl statue. Over on Comic Book Resources, DC Direct has announced that the next release in their Dynamic series will be Supergirl. Here is the link and the picture:

While no price is mentioned, the prior Dynamic studies were priced at a hefty $195.00. There isn't a release date on this post either but given the release schedule of the others, we are probably looking at early December 2010.

Here is a closer view of a very happy Supergirl twirling in flight. That 'dynamic' feel is evident here, the swirls of her cape and skirt evoking this joyous flying. She just looks so happy!

It is interesting that DC went with the true Silver Age costume complete with blue skirt. I suppose the blue skirt and lack of belly shirt makes for an easier visual transition from Supergirl to 'flight trail'.

The pose did remind me a bit of this Ian Churchill cover seen on both Superman/Batman #19 and reprinted in Supergirl #0.

The other statues solicited are just as impressive in design. Superman, Batman, and Green Lantern all are really striking.

But I had to show the other statues I am completely taken with. This Aquaman statue as he rises from the depths is fantastic.



The Wonder Woman statue is also spectacular. I love the Golden Age eagle top and the cloud base.

I suppose I have enough lead time to start squirreling away $5 here and there.

Pointy Sleeves!

When DC first announced the SUPERGIRL 1:6 SCALE Deluxe Collector Figure I was thrilled.

The pictures released on DC Direct looked great ... and it even included Streaky! The one thing I couldn't tell from those promo photos was if the shirt had pointy sleeves, an absolute must for me.

Well, check out this photo sent to me by my buddy who is currently at the San Diego Comicon. While perusing the DC Direct booth, he saw the Supergirl Doll and snapped a shot. And there they are ... pointy sleeves!

The doll will be released on February 18, 2009 and costs $89.99. I have already started my layaway plan at my local comic book store. $20 down, $69.99 to go.

June 16 - Big News Day; Item 4 - SUPERGIRL 1:6 SCALE Deluxe Collector Figure

Also announced on Tuesday was the release of the Supergirl 1:6 scale deluxe figure from DC Direct. This simply looks like a beautiful Supergirl collectible. Just gorgeous!!

The figure itself looks beautiful. I was a bit unimpressed with the Power Girl Deluxe Figure, but this one really appears slick.

Of course, it is the Matrix-style costume, which is my favorite. I mean, you can't get a better look for Supergirl than the red skirt and the pointed belt. I can't tell if there are pointed long sleeves, but I am hoping. And a little Streaky comes with it! They are appealing to the older fans; older fans are probably the only ones with disposable income and can drop $90 on a doll.

Of course, the astute Supergirl fan might chuckle at the description. Kara Zor-El never wore this costume! Kara's "classic blue costume" came with a blue dress. See below ...

This figure is wearing the Matrix/Linda Danvers/Earth Angel uniform. But this costume has the best 'feel' to it, so I am glad they went with this rather than the 70's hot pants or current belly shirt version.
