Injustice 2 Supergirl Figure

I didn't collect all of the Injustice 2.

The issues I did get showcased a pretty heroic Supergirl, no surprise given that it was written by Tom Taylor who wrote the All New Wolverine book so wonderfully.

So when I saw a mini-figure of the Injustice 2 Supergirl on sale at my comic store, I couldn't resist.

It comes with a couple of extras - an angry head and some different hands. And it is a marvel of design with plenty of places of articulation for near limitless posing.

The back of the box shows that posing nicely. How I wish there was some way I could both pose and display the figure in that flying pose! Pretty slick!

Review: Injustice #24

In many ways, I feel remiss in not collecting Injustice 2 on a monthly basis.

I came at that decision honestly. I am not a video game player. I am sick to death of Elseworlds where Lois is killed and Superman a fascist. So the basic premise seemed off. So not pulled.

And yet, I keep hearing that Supergirl ends up the hero of the piece. And I absolutely loved what Tom Taylor did on All-New Wolverine. And I have, based on cover and buzz, picked up the odd issue here and there and really enjoyed the book. For example,  Injustice 2 #13.

And so I decided when I saw the cover of Injustice 2 #24 a couple of weeks ago that it was worth picking up. I am so glad I did. It is almost the perfect to pick up after Injustice 2 #13 because the seeds of Kara's heroics planted in that story come to fruition here. And with a lot of panache.

Taylor gives us a world under assault from Amazo and there is only one hero out there to save the day ... Supergirl. And that plot will always make me happy.

Bruno Redondo is on art and that name is new to me. He brings a clean style to the proceedings but with some nice flourishes here and there which elevate the work.

If you are a Supergirl fan, you should pick this one up.

Review: Injustice #13

I am not collecting the Injustice 2 comic on a regular basis but I wonder if ultimately I will regret it. I wonder if at some point in the future I'll be trawling $1 boxes at conventions to fill in issues. Because what I have read has been excellent. I just don't know if I want to dedicate three dollars a month on a comic built on the foundation of a fascist Superman. My guess is any time Supergirl is mentioned prominently in the solicit or a major part of the cover, I'll be intrigued enough to grab the book.

Injustice 2 #13 came out last week and had what is the ultimate bait for me as a Supergirl fan. It showed Supergirl with a member of the Bat-family with the words World's Finest displayed. I love second generation World's Finest team-ups.

As in Injustice 2 #6, Supergirl really shines in this issue. It seems like writer Tom Taylor really has a solid hold of the Kara character. She has lived through tragedy. She wants to spare anyone and everyone from a similar fate. She is optimistic, faithful, and even a bit shy at times. But when she sees injustice, she becomes fierce. That need to protect others is primary. So, albeit in the two issues of this book I have read, Supergirl really comes of great. It could be enough to lure me into this title ... maybe.

And her team-up with Nightwing, here Damian Wayne, is also intriguing. Like many 'Robins', Damian acts like someone who has been in an abusive relationship. He is trying to do what is right but he is stuck in the orbit of two huge personalities - Superman and Batman. And I love that it is Supergirl that encourages to him to forge his own path. In fact, there is this great scene at the end between the two that is powerful.

Mike Miller does the art here and does a great job showing a Supergirl who hasn't quite embraced heroic poses and iconic stares. She very much is a young, inexperienced kid here, learning the ropes and seeming sort of ordinary in some places.

On to the book.

November 2017 Solicits

The DC Comics solicits for November came out this week and included some interesting entries. I have to admit, some of them worry me, some of them intrigue me, some of them turned me off. Here is a link to all the month's solicits on Newsarama: https://www.newsarama.com/36035-dc-comics-november-2017-solicitations.html

To start off, there is no mention of Supergirl in Gotham City Garage. And the cover doesn't grab me at all. So my time on that title might be brief. Second, there are a few new books, like Demon, that might be impulse buys. There is one new title I will definitely be grabbing (shown at the bottom). Lastly, there are no *FINAL ISSUE* notices for any of the super-books and that makes me happy.

On to the actual super-solicits.

SUPERGIRL #15
Written by STEVE ORLANDO and JODY HOUSER
Art and cover by ROBSON ROCHA and DANIEL HENRIQUES
Variant cover by STANLEY “ARTGERM” LAU
“PLAIN SIGHT part one!” This public service announcement is brought to you by the Department of Extranormal Operations! You saw how Supergirl hid a murderer underneath National City right before our eyes. What other dangerous secrets is she hiding? She is not human, and therefore, she cannot be trusted. D.E.O. agents will be stationed at every school to ensure their safety! Your cooperation is greatly appreciated.

Check out that cover! Okay, I have a lot of faith in this title and the approach that Steve Orlando has brought to Kara, giving us a bright, optimistic Supergirl who is trying to bring hope, help, and compassion for all. And I doubt Jody Houser was brought in to give us something grim.

But that cover and that solicit read a little like what could be the beginning of another 'Dark Kara' arc. And, as I have said since the inception of this blog, Dark Kara never works.

Maybe this is how 'overpowered' Kara looks and the villains are turning people against her?

And now the rest of the books:

Bullet Review: Injustice 2 #6

Injustice 2 #6 came out last week and sported some cover treatment announcing this to be the origin of Supergirl. Now I am not a big video game player (don't have the time to dedicate to long play) and I'm not a big fan of the premise of Injustice (Superman killing the Joker and going mad and taking over as a despot). So I have shied away from this book.

All that said, I have seen Supergirl's story videos on YouTube and a number of players have told me that Kara is really treated well in the game, acting the hero. So when I saw this glorious cover by Mike Miller with the Injustice Supergirl flying in such an iconic pose, I figured I'd bite.

I have absolutely loved what writer Tom Taylor has done on the All-New Wolverine book so I shouldn't be surprised that Supergirl is treated well. And Miller's art is clean and slick.

And this origin story is a good one, showcasing Kara's strength, courage, and even a little nod to Silver Age Supergirl.

If only it wasn't a universe with an evil Superman I might stick around. On to the book ...

Injustice 2 Upgrades

During the holiday season, another preview of Supergirl in Injustice 2 video game aired here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EpAQ2xH8ljU

As I have said before, I am not a gamer. I used to be but adult life simply means I can't devote the time to video games that I used to. (Maybe if I didn't blog so much?) But seeing snippets like this always tempt me. Maybe some of my buddies who are more active in gaming can be lured into playing.

The graphics here are incredibly good, even better than the early images we saw in the prior  Injustice 2 preview.

It starts with this new costume with the sleeveless shirt and the gladiator shoulder pads. This is Injustice, a brutal fighting game. Having a costume that resembles in some ways a warrior or even a professional wrestler makes sense. The face and expressions are fantastic. She looks young and vibrant and close enough to real to make her shine.

But it is the powers that were the real lure.

SDCC 2016: Supergirl Comic News

Okay everyone, please settle in.

I usually try to cover the Supergirl news that comes out of the San Diego Comic Con in one post. But let's face it, Supergirl has become so popular that there is no way I could cover it all in one place. How crazy is it for me to say that! But true ... between the comic, show, and merchandise, Supergirl is everywhere.

This post will only cover the news about the comic that came out of SDCC. And that is still a lot for me to touch on. Between preview pages and hearing Steve Orlando talking about the book, I am even more excited for this new book. Everything looks and sounds like I am going to love this book.

So the outline here will be me grabbing blurbs from a couple of panels that Orlando appeared at and then adding my thoughts. After that I'll showcase some of the panels from the preview pages I liked. Everything I am commenting on is easily found on the internet. For ease, here are links to where it all can be found on Newsarama.

The link for the DC Young Metropolis panel: http://www.newsarama.com/30246-sdcc-2016-dc-rebirth-s-young-gotham-young-metropolis-panel.html

The link for the DC No Boundaries panel: http://www.newsarama.com/30235-sdcc-2016-dc-all-access-no-boundaries-panel.html

The link for the comic pages: http://www.newsarama.com/30251-dc-first-looks-supergirl-rebirth-1-and-supergirl-1.html

But there is a lot to cover here than just that. So please settle in. It is great that so much Supergirl news came out of SDCC.

Injustice 2 Supergirl

The video game Injustice 2 is coming out soon, pitting the heroes of the DC universe against each other. And, in a sign that perhaps she is becoming more popular, Supergirl is a character within the game and promoted strongly in some of the earliest sneak peeks.

Now, I can't remember the last time that I felt I was a true video gamer. Since the last system I played in my house was the first XBox, it has to be 12 years. So take that as you will.

Also, I'm not a big fan of the concept of Injustice. Given the main premise is that Superman has gone evil, it isn't something that I would embrace.

But these Injustice 2 promotional videos are beautiful to look at, even if I don't know if I would want to play it. First off, head here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oDav-JfidL0

The opening part of the issue has members of the Justice League brawling with each other.

Superman vs. Flash!
Batman vs. Aquaman!
Superman vs. Batman!

And it seems that with each time a character 'dies', they are brought back in more powerful armor. It seems very Saiyan! Or 90's!

Anyways, the video ends on an interesting note. Superman wades in to finish off Batman, angry red eyes angrily glowing with anger.

But Superman is blasted away.

And then we see another set of angry red eyes!

It's Supergirl!

I have to say she looks pretty slick!

And I sort of like that she is standing up to an evil Kal.

I even like that she is sporting her sort of special S-shield. I like that tie-in to the comics.

This video ends with all the heroes running towards each other to brawl.

So not one super-villain in this tease. Just heroes trying to kill each other. And I mean, Aquaman skewers Batman with his trident. No punches pulled.

Still, as a Supergirl fan who lived through decades of her being forgotten or laughed at or gone, I have to like that she is one of five characters highlighted here.

Not Catwoman. No Wonder Woman. No Harley Quinn. Not Green Lantern.

Supergirl! Hooray.

For even more Supergirl in Injustice 2, head to IGN.com here for another video:
http://www.ign.com/videos/2016/06/12/injustice-2-gameplay-reveal

This one really showcases Supergirl!

We see her in her Linda/Kara Danvers secret identity. This is pure Linda Lang from the Gates/Igle run and definitely seems to have some Melissa Benoist in her!

She is approached by Atrocitus and Dex-Starr who claim she is weak. She tosses her glasses in the air, runs away ...

And returns in her Supergirl costume in time to catch her glasses before they hit the ground.

"I punch above my weight!" she retorts. Fantastic!

Again, she looks great.

We get a lot more actual game footage in this video. And we get to see heroes fighting villains! Aquaman takes on Gorilla Grodd! Superman fights Atrocitus!

And Supergirl fights Atrocitus.

I wish I could grab a better pic of her game costume. She is wearing a pant-suit version of the costume. I does look good. And since we see her getting tossed around on these games, I suppose it eliminates the concern for up-skirt shots.

Anyways, I don't think this will get me to play video games. But I hope if someone here does end up playing it, they'll let me know about it.
