Supergirl Cameo In Batgirl #8

I am always thrilled to see Supergirl appearing in titles outside of the Superman Family ones. And I am especially happy to hear from others who let me know where I should be looking for these cameos.

So let me thank blogfriend Bookwormwithanattitude for cluing me in on Kara's cameo in Batgirl #8. I definitely would have missed this otherwise.

It's a brief appearance ... just one panel.

In the story, Red Robin and Batgirl are in a confrontation with the League of Assassins who have blanketed Gotham City in a media blackout. Luckily, Oracle is able to get through and send Supergirl out to smash the satellite emitting the jamming signal, allowing Tim and Steph to beat up on the assassins.

It's a nice little spot showing that the friendships between Supergirl and Oracle (as seen in the 2008 DCU Holiday Special) and Supergirl and Steph (as seen in World's Finest #3) are part of the fabric of the characters. I especially like how Oracle's codename for Supergirl is 'bluebird'.

As for the rest of the book, I have to admit that I don't usually get Batman titles and so I only know a bit about Steph and her history. That said, the chemistry between her and Tim Drake in this issue was solid. Even without knowing the details of their history, their exchanges crackled. I don't think I'll be adding this title to my pull list (I get too many comics as it is), but I might stop by every know and then. It seems that this title is really about Batgirl becoming a hero, one of the big themes I like in Supergirl.

Anyways, thanks again for the info Bookworm! This was a fun issue to read.

If Gail Simone is really gonna preside over a revival of the "Birds of Prey" book, then I say Steph and Kara belong there as the "Legacy Muscle" and her BFF, "The Legacy Detectress"...
:D
But I guess the decision is to put Kara in the JLA...Oh well the perfect is the enemy of the merely good.

I've actualy been getting this title (with the writer having written for "Smallville" in the past too) and have truly been enjoying seeing the writer handling Steph's graduation from that of Spoiler-Robin IV (Damian is actually the 5th version) to now that of being the 3rd actual Batgirl runnning around Gotham, and to have Kara surprisingly show up in recent issue just ended up sweetening it all even more. Heh! :D

@Anj: aside from 'Supergirl' and 'R.E.B.E.L.S.' what other titles are listed as being on your "pull list", eh? :-)

No problem, Anj! I love your blog (and hey, you advertised MINE once- I'm nevermore999, who accidentally started that convention-shorts kerfuffle)

I can see what with getting every Superman title evah you're pull list would be huge. Batgirl is definitely worth checking out on the occasion- it's designed to be fairly accessible to new readers, especially the first few issues- and it's a really fun title (that usually has better art than #8 did)

I hope Batgirl and Supergirl do a crossover someday like Sterling Gates suggested. That would be sweet.

Couldn't agree more. Steph is like Supergirl without superpowers, but who has been able to overcome great trials and perils (that would have overwhelmed other people)to become the hero that she is.

I would love to see a Supergirl/Batgirl mini-series.

I am wary of her in the JLA. I'll have to see how it plays out.

Too long a list to post here.

Briefly, mostly DC. A smattering of Marvel (Brubaker and Fraction are great), a couple of indy's.

I'll post a complete list soon.

I liked this issue enough to think about picking up the older issues if they are on the $1 table at a convention.

I can see why it has got good press.

Yeah ... I love the journey.

And it sounds like Steph does have a lot of baggage to overcome.

As I said, I enjoyed it more than I expected.

I've enjoyed Batgirl, but wasn't blown away by it, but this IMHO, was her best issue yet, Very nice to see Supergirl. Enjoyed it so much I had to grab Red Robin, which I haven't read but also liked a lot.

Can't wait for Simone and Benes return to Birds of Prey. Lets hope Kara pops up in those pages here and there.
