DC Comics August 2025 Solicits

The full DC solicits for August 2025 came out a bit ago and they sure do highlight that this is the Summer of Superman. There is a lot going on this month and both Superman and Supergirl get a lot of coverage.  Heck, I think I even saw a Kandorian Nightwing on the cover of Nightwing!

There is a lot to unpack so let's dive right in.

In the aftermath of escaped Kandorian Lesla-Lar’s rampage through town, Supergirl learns there’s more to Midvale than meets the eye when Lena drags her to a secret club she never knew existed. Midvale, like her alter ego, may seem mild-mannered, but there’s something special about it. Out from under Superman’s watchful eye, Kara is ready to let loose no matter the disastrous consequences!

Great to see Amy reeder back on covers, even if it is the expensive variant.

As for Midvale being something special, given Sophie Campbell's love of Supergirl history, perhaps she is rolling in a 'Leesburg is over a Hellmouth' feel to this incarnation.

Love the cover. As usual, a feast for a Supergirl fan. Decay from Daring New! Someone who clearly is Wanda Five from the 70s series. And Lena looks so goth she could be Nasty from All-Star Superman!

Can't wait to read!

Hmm ... an impossible ally? No hints on the variant covers. So let's start guessing. Is Mordru still in the present? Could it be Karate Kid?

We know that a Legion book is around the corner so glad Williamson is sowing some seeds here.

Knowing Mark Waid, I'm guessing it's Captain Comet. Even Grant Morrison loved the Captain.

I thought we might see some Smallville Superboy in this book but seems like we are diving into Metropolis time.

I've said it before, I think Patridge is a great pick for a Superboy book.

Perhaps the biggest thing in this solicit is Jon being back in the book with a subplot of his own. I guess the Kryptonite plot is still happening.

As for the cover and main plot, does anyone want to say Kirk Langstrom's serum?

Ra's al Ghul is a murderer of millions. Perhaps he is a surviving member of the Science Council on Krypton and not Jor-El. (Please don't let it be Jor-El!)

I'd still like to think that even in this 'Darkseid Universe' that Superman is a rare gleam of hope and not a rage guy. We'll see. 

At the very least, here in issue #10, it looks like we are coming to a head. Jason Aaron has been slowly revealing stuff. Glad to see Rafa Sandoval back.

Is this a plague on Bizarro's World? And a patient zero? Who could be causing it? I keep trying to think of someone who can cause 'normalcy'. 

I have liked Adrian Gutierrez art on the book so seeing him cut loose on Bizarro World should be fun!

Of course, Flashpoint brought about the New 52. Will that era simply be skipped? Is that just excised from the actual History?

KRYPTO: THE LAST DOG OF KRYPTON #3

But humans aren’t as equipped to survive in the wilderness as dogs are, and there will come a point when this girl can walk no more…and a strange visitor from another world will be her only hope.

Sounds like a heartwarming story although you think Krypto would be able to save this girl immediately.

Still thrilled to read!

So help me out! Should I get this book? Sounds interesting from a plot view but I'll just need to know the tone more than anything.

I have been impressed with how Waid has handled this book, swapping in characters while keeping a core group. Wonder what Apokolips is all about given how New Gods is going on.

Have to say, Supergirl is on two covers, the one I am showing and one of her with Yara Flor and Cass Cain. Hoping that means she is in the book but who knows.

Loved the first series. Given the first, wondering why Superman would trust Lex at all. And why is he losing his powers? And what are the chances a bath in Godzilla's atomic breath re-energizes our hero. 

Interesting to see Suicide Squad being a sort of gray team. Does this mean we'll see more of Amanda Waller?

DC Finest: Supergirl: Body And Soul marks the beginning of acclaimed writer Peter David’s (The Incredible Hulk, Aquaman) astonishing reinvention of Supergirl with artists Gary Frank and Cam Smith, featuring stories published between September 1996 and February 1998. This volume collects tales from Showcase ’96 #8, Supergirl #1-18, Supergirl Annual #1-2, and Supergirl Plus #1.

I honestly loved the PAD Supergirl book, especially the first 50 issues. It is a solid series. It is clear David loved the classic Supergirl and so infused some of that into this Linda Danvers. And love it includes Showcase '96 #8, the prologue.

Thrilled this is coming out. (I own this in several forms already so might not buy.)

SUPERGIRL: UNIVERSE END

Now I try to support Supergirl in all forms. 

But I didn't get Superman Woman of Tomorrow in trade. I was not supporting that.

And I cannot, with a clear conscience, buy this trade of Mariko Tamaki's soporific non-Supergirl story.

But if you liked this story, I am happy for you that it will be put out in trade.
