And with so much time spent on Krypton, the Earth story of the growing K is a bit in the background and I didn't mind that!
Back on Earth, Steel and Natasha's evaluation of the growing Kryptonite is done. It seems some change in the composition makes it like a prion, latching onto and growing on proteins. This is why it is latching onto people, zombifying them. Of course, that means it could all be reversed! Comic book science!
Meanwhile, in a barely touched on sideplot that I am very interested in, the Eradicatrix is rudderless without Zod or Ursa around. It begins questioning what it is.
Kara begins chasing Ursa through the streets. Ursa just happens to run into ... Alura, Zor-El, and young Kara walking along. A bit of comic karma I suppose that our time travelers land in the same city on the same day at the same time young Kara is strolling.
Sophie Campbell makes a meal out of the side trip showing us how Kara is approaching the whole thing. I like the maturity Supergirl shows, recognizing that despite her love for her world she cannot interfere with the timeline. In fact, that worry about changing things seems to overwhelm her thoughts. How can she stop Ursa, interact on the planet, and not change things. We get a lot of Kara this issue which doesn't always happen in this series and the full cast. I was glad to get this deep dive into our title hero's psyche.
Of course, this being a time travel story you have to think hard or not think at all. If this trip is now in the timeline, maybe anything they did IS the timeline and not disrupting it. Hmmm ...
The art is mix of Joe Quinones and Bruno Frenda. Both give us wonderful renditions of Supergirl, leaning into the emotions she is feeling being back on Krypton. There is one moment that could have used a bit more poignancy but things move pretty fast here.
The time bubble makes it back to Krypton and Ursa takes of to tell someone ... anyone ... about the impending doom to try and stop it from happening.
Recognizing the danger to the timeline (didn't King Omega Superman just save the timeline?), Kara takes off in pursuit advising Superboy to say in the bubble.
A few things here I found interesting or liked.
Despite being under the red sun, the group still has super powers even though they are waning, like a dying battery. That makes more sens to me that immediately losing all powers under the red sun.
Second, I like how Kara recognizes more interference in the past would mean more chances of the timeline going wrong. So despite recognizing this is Clark's first glimpse, she tells him to stay put. That shows a high maturity level, realizing that reason has to rule here.
Of course, latching onto proteins doesn't explain the Green K just growing on its own. No proteins in the air.
And still not sure why Zod would have wanted this to happen.
Will it become more self-aware and become a source of good? Or will it go rogue and become a villain with free will?
The Eradicator went through some changes back in the day. So anything is possible!
While roaming Krypton's streets (in a new outfit courtesy of the S-Matrix suit), Kara begins to questions her own ethics. Can she take advantage of the time? Visit Argo City? Save loved ones? Change the past?
I like the steely detemination Frenda gives us in the first panel, fist clenched as she recognizes the folly in those thoughts. 'Pull yourself together'.
As for that voice talking to her. Supergirl seemed to think it was the SunStone in El Caldero. But it is looking more and more like it is the Matrix suit.
I do wish this scene had a little more time to breathe. I would love to see more of Kara's reaction to seeing her parents alive. Hear her say she misses them. Well a tear. But there isn't time.
Ursa tosses young Kara to the ground, forcing old Kara to make a decision. Should she stop her younger self from falling or will that change the timeline?
Of course, is Ursa throwing her young self to the ground another blip in the timeline that saving her would be undoing a blip.
Time travel can give me a headache!
Before Kara can save Kara, Clark steps in.
He was unable to abide by Kara's rules. He wants to see Krypton.
I do like how he calls her out. She has been doing the very thing she told him not to do. It has been fun to see Supergirl interact with this young Clark as a protector and wise cousin.

Unfortunately the three time travelers cause enough of a ruckus to get the attention of the Kryptonian police. Kara distracts them long enough for Superboy to skedattle.
Ursa and Kara are hauled in.
I don't know how often I have seen the police state of Krypton before. They have facial recognition. Kara 'doesn't seem to exist'. Meanwhile Ursa seems to be a duplicate of the actual Ursa on the planet. We know about cloning on Krypton and at this time it should have been outlawed. So these two would be very suspicious for the police.
All that's left is who will investigate.
Of course, a young Zod. Love the saucy look on Ursa's face.
I suppose based on the school age appearance of young Kara and how old she was when she was rocketed away, this is probably 10 years before the destruction of Krypton.
Zod isn't in the Phantom Zone. Kal isn't born. But is the eventual destruction of Krypton detectable?
So this was a good issue for this arc and this title. Supergirl is front and center here, leading this 'mission'. She has some feelings. She wants to protect Superboy.
But this feels like a whole different story than the main Kingdom Of Zod one, a sort of side adventure thrust into the event.

Side story or not, it's an improvement on the slog we've been through. It'd be best if after she and Clark win, the time bubble malfunctions and lands on Zod's head before he can start this whole nonsense.
