April 18th is Superman Day commemorating the anniversary of the release of Action Comics #1. DC Comics will usually celebrate with some special releases or a re-releases of trades and collections.
With the Supergirl movie being released in June, DC decided to make April 18th Supergirl Day this year. Incredible.
If you want to read all about it, here is a link to DC's blog: https://www.dc.com/blog/2026-02-12/look-out-supergirl-is-taking-over
I started this blog in 2008 because I felt Supergirl was being overlooked and horribly mishandled. I wanted to shine a spotlight on my favorite character. So if you told me then that DC would be celebrating Supergirl day in advance of a major movie, I would think you were crazy.
In addition to the Superman Day Special Edition, fans can also pick up two Superman Day–exclusive versions of Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow #1 at their local comic shop while supplies last: a foil‑enhanced Special Edition ($9.99 US) and a blank sketch cover ($4.99 US), ideal for signings, sketches, and collectors.I started this blog in 2008 because I felt Supergirl was being overlooked and horribly mishandled. So I will be here to celebrate Supergirl Day and I hope you will to.
At the heart of Supergirl’s Superman Day offerings is the Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow #1 Superman Day 2026 Special Edition. This exclusive Superman Day sampler reprints the acclaimed first chapter of Tom King, Bilquis Evely, and Mat Lopes’s character-defining sci fi fantasy epic.
Obviously the movie is based on King's story so the celebration will revolve a lot around that book. I don't particularly like the book's portrayal of Kara but it is clear this is here to stay. Will I buy these issues? It will be torn for sure.
For Supergirl day, the will be releasing a special addition of the latest volume's first issue. I'll definitely grab that. There will be a facsimile version of Action Comics #252, Supergirl's first appearance.
But also a ton of trade re-releases:
Supergirl:Being Super, Silver Age Omnibus Vol 1, and the next volume of Peter David's series in DC Finest format (even if DC describes it as Kara adventures).
And then more coming!
Look for more Supergirl news to break as DC’s Summer of Supergirl heats up! DC’s publishing plans include the one-shot comic book Summer of Supergirl Special, the launch of the new DC Elseworlds comic book series Supergirl: Survive, facsimile editions for Supergirl and the Legion of Super-Heroes #23 and Lobo #1, an artbook-sized DC W.I.P.: Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow #1, Supergirl-themed variant covers publishing across DC’s line of comic books, and more ... From Comic to Screen: The Art of Supergirl: The Woman of Tomorrow is an in depth look at the creation of both the comic and the film it inspired.
So if you're a Supergirl fan, you better start saving up your pennies.
I am thrilled that DC feels Supergirl has become big enough to hype up this way even if it is built on a book I am not fond of.

Haven’t they just done an Action Comics #252 facsimile?
Anyway, yes, nice one Supergirl! What would be great would be a new Supergirl Annual, with a big fight against, say, Reactron, with Kara the undoubted star of the show.
Yes they have definitely released a facsimile copy of Action Comics 252 and between that, the original, the silver age classic , the millennium edition and assorted other reprints I now have enough copies of it to wallpaper a small room so will try and pass on that one
The special and the elseworlds series are a definite and, maybe, the Legion reprint as I understand it is the Adam Hughes variant but the main thing I am looking forward to from this announcement is the Woman of Tomorrow WIP version as, love or hate the story, I don't think many people would disagree that the art is impressive and this will tide me over until the (hopefully) inevitable absolute version
DC should publish the Artist Edition of Supergirl Woman of Tomorrow without captions and dialogue and an invitation on the cover to write your own Supergirl story. Virtually anything anyone else comes up with would have to be better than what Tom King actually did. Also, the March DC preview and the April Marvel preview have all the variant covers for Superman/Spider-Man and Spider-Man/Superman respectively at full size. If you have them, you can buy the regular edition and not have to pay a fortune for expensive variants.
'It will be torn for sure.'
I hope you mean the book itself.
William,
The Marvel April solicit shows 12 covers for it, but in the list there are many more. Does the Marvel Preview magazine show you more than that?
Usually, Marvel Previews shows a very small fraction of the variant of their covers, and I've never known how to see the rest in time.
For DC, most variant covers are included with the solicits at aipt and/or the DC Connect magazine (which can be downloaded from Lunar). Sometimes one will show a cover the other doesn't, so I look through them side by side - the books are listed in the same order in both, making it a very easy task.
But DC holds back many a number of covers, too. Those are all revealed at Lunar (lunardistribution.com) in a section on their home page called FOC, the week before their FOC date (which means every Wednesday or early Thursday, the covers going FOC the next week are revealed). If you buy from someone that lets you put in orders by FOC, that is perfect. If you buy from someone who only allows pre-orders by the Initial Due Date -- you have to buy blindly or skip it. Or find another local or online retailer. TFAW used to allow orders just prior to FOC, but they got out of the online retail business.

League of Comic Geeks shows 25 variants... I don't know if this is totally complete but it's a big improvement. (Some may be retailer exclusives, have to be careful of those expensive ones.)

My mistake. I didn't realize that there were more variants than the ones in the printed Marvel April solicit and the printed DC March solicit. However two or three of the Supergirl variants and one or two of the group cover variants with Supergirl on them are in the printed solicits in full comic book size, making it unnecessary to buy the issues with those covers.
Thanks for all the comments.
Someone pointed out that the 'Friend or Foe' comment in the solicits for May mirrors the cover blurb on AC #252 - so I wonder if they are re-releasing a facsimile 252 to resonate with an Absolute Supergirl appearance.
And yes, there are an insane number of SM/S-M variants, but some quiet pretty and innovative. I am actually excited for that project!
March 25, 2026 several Supergirl variants of
DC / Marvel: Superman / Spider-Man #1
Cover I Adam Hughes Variant (70's Supergirl hot pants with 70s Spiderwoman, Jessica Drews), even a Power girl Black Cat and Power Girl Punisher variant covers. I don't like Supergirl in the story based on the new movie, not the real Supergirl (true heroine who died in 1985). However I will see the movie because of Milly Alcock and Jason Mamoa as Lobo. I think a movie based on Sophie's current comic or the old Adventures comics would be more satisfying of true Supergirl. My opinion only and I don't hate anyone who has an opposing opinion, as everyone has the right to express what they like or what the forum allows.
