The June 2024 solicits for DC Comics came out this week and it looks to be a good month. With the Superman movie coming out in July, DC is making it the summer of Superman. So why not give us some fun stuff to read, starting out with the new Supergirl book.
I'll be covering some of the offerings but if you want to see the whole list, head here:

For one, we are kicking it old school with someone named Lesla from Kandor trying to replace Supergirl. This is pure Silver Age! And having Supergirl become pals with Lena Luthor is both a riff on their friendship in the Silver Age of comics as well as their alliance (for the most part) in the Supergirl TV show. Why not kick it up a notch.
Plenty of cool variant covers here as well. But the standard cover (shown above) is fun. Could that be <gasp> a supporting cast on the left? I hope so.
Knowing Sophie Campbell, there is a chance the Lesla story will be a trans story or a trans allegory. And I suppose all the SuperCorp fanatics will be hoping for a Kara/Lena relationship. Hoping this is just a fun straight-up superhero book!SUPERMAN #27
Written by JOSHUA WILLIAMSON
Art by EDDY BARROWS and EBER FERREIRA
Cover by DAN MORA
Variant covers by DERRICK CHEW, GUILLEM MARCH, and MARC ASPINALL
DC Pride variant cover by RACHEL STOTT
1:25 variant cover by ARIEL COLÓN
George Perez Postcard Variant by GEORGE PEREZ
Nothing can stop Superman’s Red K infection, so Lois Lane goes to the people who infected the Man of Steel in the first place…the Lex Luthor Revenge Squad. Dr. Pharm and Mr. Graft make a shocking return! Don’t miss a key issue for the future of Superman and Lex Luthor!
I don't know if Pharm and Graft ever struck me as great Superman villains but they dominated the first year of the book and then sort of disappeared. Good for Williamson to try and bring new villains into the mythos.

SUPERMAN UNLIMITED #2
Written by DAN SLOTT
Art and cover by RAFAEL ALBUQUERQUE
Variant covers by LEINIL FRANCIS YU, TONY S. DANIEL, and STEVE BEACH 1:25 variant cover by CHRISTIAN WARD
1:50 variant cover by ASHLEY WOOD
Superman faces a brave new world—radical change sweeps the globe, and the ramifications of the Kryptonite asteroid reach a fever pitch! The epicenter of this new Kryptonite power reverberates from the Emerald City—a nation-state positioned atop a massive stockpile of this incredible natural resource and ruled with an iron fist by the Kryptonite King and his dreaded Krypto-Knights! Can Superman hope to continue his fight for truth and justice with Kryptonite flooding the streets with danger? Plus: the Daily Planet’s expansion continues, and Gorilla City’s representative joins the team!
Will this 'Kryptonite Everywhere' be a solid story? I honestly don't know.

Is this a sort of 'elsewhen' book like Legends of The Dark Knight? Or is this firmly into current continuity?
For sure this has to end in some sort of 'Kryptonite Nevermore' ending.

ACTION COMICS #1087
Written by MARK WAID
Art by SKYLAR PATRIDGE
Cover by RYAN SOOK
Variant covers by DAVID TALASKI and LEIRIX
1:25 variant cover by SKYLAR PATRIDGE
Witness Mark Waid’s triumphant return to the title alongside rising star artist Skylar Patridge as they take Clark Kent back to his early years on Kent Farm. This can’t-miss story, with ties to the present, takes the Boy of Steel to unexpected heights as he figures out what being a hero truly means. First stop: Metropolis’s Expo of Tomorrow! Will Clark be able to blend into the crowd, or is Superboy about to make his public debut?!
Waid on Superboy seems like a no-brainer.
And DC needs Superboy in their history.
I liked Patridge's art on the odious Tamaki Supergirl story so that also works, especially for a Smallville-centric story. That art should sing there. Can't wait.
ABSOLUTE SUPERMAN #8
Written by JASON AARON
Art and cover by RAFA SANDOVAL
Variant covers by CLAYTON CRAIN and BRANDON PETERSON
1:25 variant cover by DUSTIN NGUYEN
1:50 variant cover by CLAYTON CRAIN
The next big arc of this red-hot series begins here, as Superman finds himself caught between the opposing forces of the nefarious Lazarus Corp and the mysterious Omega Men. But Kal-El just wants to be left alone in the only place on this planet where he’s ever felt safe. A place called Smallville.
Interesting that Aaron is bringing in the far-right Lazarus and far-left Omega Men as opponents. I suppose Superman is left-leaning in this world. But interesting to see how extremists can exist on both ends.

Sounds like the Smallville portion of life will be explored here.
Do you think this book is too slow a burn? I have really liked the world-building. But I wonder if it is going too slow for others.
KRYPTO: THE LAST DOG OF KRYPTON #1
Written by RYAN NORTH
Art by MIKE NORTON
Cover by JAE LEE
Variant cover by DUSTIN NGUYEN
Blank Sketch Cover
There will come a day when Krypto stands beside Superman, helping him fight off monsters, aliens, and supervillains—a day when this dog will save his adoptive world thanks to the incredible powers granted him by Earth’s strange yellow sun. But he’s not there yet. Today, Krypto is a normal puppy on Krypton, spending each happy, snoozy, endless day alongside his family: Jor-El, Lara, and baby Kal-El. But when a rocket test goes wrong, Krypto finds himself lost in space—and soon crash-landing, all alone, on a strange and alien world called “Earth.”
How fun to have a Krypto book on the racks! Ryan North and Mike Norton seem like the perfect team for a book like this.
I don't know if we have been told a finality to this. Seems perfect for a 4 issue mini.
BATMAN/SUPERMAN: WORLD’S FINEST #40
Written by MARK WAID
Art by ADRIÁN GUTIÉRREZ
Cover by DAN MORA
Variant covers by TIRSO and ADRIÁN GUTIÉRREZ
1:25 variant cover by SKYLAR PATRIDGE
STEPHEN COLBERT celebrity cameo variant cover by DAN MORA
A menace is loose in Metropolis, but Superman and Batman can’t do anything about it until Clark Kent and Bruce Wayne find a way to escape…a talk show? Will it be up to their friends—Perry White, Lois Lane, Commissioner Gordon, and Alfred Pennyworth—to step in and help save the day? Also featuring an all-new cameo variant cover appearance by late night icon Stephen Colbert!
Waid has done well giving us these side mission issues with other World's Finest. We saw Supergirl/Robin. We saw Batgirl/Jimmy Olsen. So why not Perry White/Alfred?

1:25 variant cover by MIKE CHO

In celebration of 90 years of DC, super fan and writer Mark Waid turns back time to the very beginning of the DC Universe in a four-issue miniseries drawn by some of DC’s greatest artists and told by the newest chronicler of time, Barry Allen, the Flash! In our debut issue, Barry takes us from the very birth of the DC Universe to the rise of the Justice Society. The Golden Age of heroes begins here!
I was there for the Wolfman/Perez History of the DCU post Crisis. That book was never the bible people thought it was going to be.

Frankly, after all the Rebirths, Dawns, Crises both Dark and Final, and the New 52, even I don't know what has and has not happened. And I am neck deep in DC weekly.
So when I heard that Waid and Ordway and Nauck were going to put it down on paper made me very very happy.
I am 100% in.
JUSTICE LEAGUE VS. GODZILLA VS. KONG 2 #1
Written by BRIAN BUCCELLATO
Art and cover by CHRISTIAN DUCE
Variant covers by DAN MORA, ALAN QUAH, and GABRIEL HARDMAN Foil variant cover by JOHN GIANG
1:25 Cover by KEVIN MAGUIRE
1:50 Variant cover by CARLOS D’ANDA
1:100 Variant cover by CHRISTIAN DUCE
In the aftermath of last year’s Justice League vs. Godzilla vs. Kong, Task Force X launches a plan to develop hybrid Titans that Amanda Waller can control to guard against future titan attacks on our Earth. To stop Task Force X, the Justice League travels to Legendary Earth and must face the dangers of the Hollow Earth, Kong, and Godzilla, King of the Monsters!
I loved the first series a ton. Heck, some of that book made it into my Best Supergirl Moments of 2024! So I am happy it was successful enough to bring the band back together and give us a sequel.

Writer Brian Buccellato let Supergirl shine a fair amount in that book. I really hope we get to see her and Kong interact again!
Whew! Lots of books!
What did you all think??

Looking forward to Supergirl in a solo book at long last, JLA v. Gorgo, Gamera and Yongary will also be a "must pull" :) Ahhhh didja happen to see JLU #5 last week? A certain Last Daughter of Krypton was was very much shown to advantage I would say...JF
Yes to JLU 5! Review up in a couple!
MVP! MVP!
You guys are killing me. My LCS' shipment of DC Comics didn't arrive last week, so I didn't get to read JLU #5. Please, no spoilers in the comments from anyone else who posts here. The new Supergirl Comic looks like fun, although I could have done without the spoiler on the second Supergirl in the solicits-unless its a deliberate distraction from whatever Campbell really has planned. I loved the variant cover with Supergirl exiting the phone booth and waving to the awestruck kids. Nice to see her as a fun, friendly good guy instead of a brooding, violent depressive.
After what happened with Power Girl, I'm reserving judgement on the Supergirl series until I see it. as to Krypto, has anybody else been creeped out since they started portraying Krypto years back as just a regular dog with terrifying powers?
