Superman #30 came out this week, pushing the Legion of Darkseid story forward with some important plot reveals, a possible Crisis homage, and a triple-agent double-cross that works well.
But I am still trying to work out what exactly is happening regarding Darkseid. I thought that Darkseid wanted to die in the All In Special so that he was the 'hand Krona saw' in the Absolute Universe. Now it seems like he wants to come back and has sent his Legion to try and resurrect him. I thought it was cooler that he was sort of the primal energy of the whole universe rather than a being wanting to dominate. DC is approaching the DC KO mini-series which means Darkseid has to manifest to fight whoever wins the round robin.
So in this issue, writer Joshua Williamson tells us about the origins of this Dark Legion and what their goals are. These aren't my Legion and, in particular, this sadistic Saturn Girl, killing with her mind and licking her chops over the nihilistic Superboy Prime is about as far away from my Imra as possible. And like last month, Prime is a delight here, dropping creator names and comic references throughout.
Dan Mora brings the action and frenzy in this issue. The action is wild and crazy. We see the Legion pounding the good guys throughout the book. And his take on Saturn Girl is chilling. It has been a while since Mora hit the scene and I am still in awe of his stuff.
In the Absolute Universe, the Legion didn't form when the original three saved R.J. Brande and formed a team because of Superman.
Instead, in this universe, Titan and Braal are in a war. Saturn Girl killed many using her mind but even her own people thought she was maniacal and imprisoned her.
In her mind, she hears Darkseid, the Final God. She is inspired. And so she kills those around her and recruits her world's enemy Cosmic Boy. And then they head around the universe to build their Legion.
A lot here. I assume the voice is Darkseid's but for all we know she is crazy. Second, I love how once she hears Darkseid, we see the light reflect in her eyes like omegas. But again, this violent Imra is shocking.
Superboy Prime seems to have joined this Legion. Saturn Girl reads his mind and loves how 'screwed up' he is.
And now we hear the plan. Booster Gold is full of chronal energy which has allowed the Legion to travel through time. (I guess no time bubbles in this universe? Have we seen a Brainiac 5?)
But he also is infused with Omega energy. The Legion needs to drain it from him to resurrect Darkseid.
It is interesting that Booster is such a key person in this story and the universe.
You might remember several issues ago, Lex went to some wintry sanctuary.
It seemed that this was some scientific lair. In a brief interlude, we see Lex in stark surroundings meditating. This place looks more Nanda Parbat. Where is this.
He is attacked by an assassin with an omega on his chest, screaming for Darkseid. And Lex takes care of him. I mean, this guy's head is backwards. He looks like the Invunche in Alan Moore's Swamp Thing.
Lex leaves the place, most likely to protect the others in there.
I hope we learn where and what this place was.
The Legion has built a machine to use the Omega energy from Booster to bring back Darkseid.
It looks so much like a Crisis tuning fork. Or an Infinite Crisis tuning fork.
Am I reading to much into it. But putting Prime into a scene with this thing seems too perfect.
He used his nerd rage to blind his mind with hate and avoid Saturn Girl's probe.
That is fantastic.
He hates everything so he was able to trick her of his real intentions.
Instead he throws Booster through the time portal the Legion opened to try and bring Darkseid bacl, sending him to safety.
We even get a BWAHAHAHA reference!
I usually hate Prime. But Williamson has made him a sort of insane charmer in this story.
Prime is ready for his Superman moment. He is ready for his Legion moment. He dons the Legion ring Superman gave him.
And a classic Zero Hour fade out!
Will Prime and the ragtag real Legion hold of the Darkseid Legion? Unlikely. But what a turnaround for Prime.
So this is another fun chapter in this story which is really impacting the whole DCU. I loved seeing the Legion origin. I am chilled by this Saturn Girl. But it was Prime and his actions that made this sing.

Yes, we saw Absolute Brainiac 5 last issue he was captured and was examined by four alternet Brainiac 5s
I'm not as sure as you are that Darkseid is who Imra means by the final god. Absolute Superman is front and center in the panel in which Imra mentions that which would fit in with the efforts to corrupt him in his own title.
