Jamal Igle Commission from San Diego Comicon

I really consider myself lucky to add this great Jamal Igle piece to my growing Supergirl commission gallery.

A buddy of mine was going to be in San Diego for a family wedding during the week of Comicon. He decided to bring his family to Comicon on the Thursday, and while he is not a huge comic fan, he knows I am and asked if there was anything he could do for me.

I did not want to saddle him with a multitude of tasks so I asked him to find booth 4400 (where Igle, Mike McKone, and Jim Calafiore would all be sitting) and see if any of them were open for commissions. Since Igle is starting on the title in 2 months, I asked my friend to see Jamal first. Luckily I landed second on the list! And, to continue my commission theme, I asked for the Matrix costume, complete with pointy sleeves and belt.

This is a very interesting commission for me for a couple of reasons. First, when I ask for a commission of Supergirl and I don't specify a pose (heroic, action, etc), the artist usually draws her in an angelic pose, floating serenely amongst the clouds. Second, Jamal Igle has talked about his upcoming approach to the character and has said he is going to make her fun and energetic.

So imagine my surprise when my friend gave me this spectacular commission which I have playfully dubbed ‘Angry Young Woman’. He just asked Jamal to draw Supergirl; he did not ask for any specific pose … so this pose and feel for Supergirl was all Igle. Look at her!! Man, she is not happy and looks ready to drop someone. It is such a unique pose amongst my collection and is just incredible.

This has made me look forward to his run on Supergirl even more.

nice...
i like the way he's brought the cape across the shoulders. its my favourite drape for a cape. that, and the way sentry had his cape attached in his first mini...
i'm not so sure about the pointy belt, but yay for pointy sleeves...
a very nice drawing...

What can I say about the pointy belt? I'm just particular ... LOL.

I do like the feel of the cape as well.

Overall it is just such a great piece.

She looks FIERCE. I'd pity the bad guy she's about to pummel, but you know he has it coming.

I really want that to be her new costume.

Thank for the post.

Fierce is a great way to describe her!

I just drool when I look at it.

I look at this and think "Beware the fury of a patient super-woman"....

Darkseid, hope she is beating on Darkseid...or Mongol...that big jerk.

:D

Mongul is a good pick for her to beat up. LOL.

Glad you like the piece.

I think he is going to do a great job.

2 more months until the new creative team!

Of course, this look is also one reason Kara will never be able to have a normal relationship with a non-meta guy. Other reasons include her "baby" cousin Clark and her scary Uncle Bruce.

She tried with Dick Malverne!

Of course, it does look like she is about to unleash the old heat vision.

Great sketch ! it's good to see the more classic version of Supergirl still been requested on the cons. I have nothing against the current costume, some artist pull that version better than others but the 'movie' costume is definitely my favorite.

Thanks for the post.

I love the Matrix costume so all my commissions have Supergirl in that version (outside of my Jim Mooney piece in which she is in her original uniform).

My friends all feel that I should branch out into other costume versions in my commission requests, but I like my stream-lined gallery.

Just wondering...

are you gonna put a link to the other comissions?

Thanks for the post.

I have been posting them intermittently on the blog. You can click on the 'commission' label on the right column and get those posts specifically.

I am sure I will eventually post all the commissions on the page. And at some point I will have a link to see all of them in one place.

Great Supergirl art by Jamal Igle! Kara looks really powerful and ready to fight for Truth, Justice, and the American Way. And I love seeing the classic Supergirl costume! I feel sorry for the villain who made Supergirl angry! Overall, Igle's style is so beautiful, and I can't wait to see his work in Supergirl 34!
