June 16 - Big News Day; Item 1 - sales

Wow!

It was a big news day for Supergirl with 4 news items I will be commenting on over the course of the next day or two.

First item: Diamond released the sales breakdown for comics for the month of May. Overall, DC got fairly trounced by Marvel.

Supergirl 29 was ranked at 74, with a selling index of 29.64 (which I believe means that it sold 29,640 issues).

Unfortunately, I don't have prior numbers to see if this is a stable number or a drop. If anyone can help with some prior issues numbers, please post them!

I would be intrigued to know this as I think the comic's quality has been improving since Puckett took over. However, I think this is a major drop-off from the earliest Loeb/Churchil issues.

There are plenty of decent comics around Supergirl in ranks. Green Arrow/Black Canary is ranked 70. Ed Brubaker and Matt Fraction's Immortal Iron Fist (a great comic) is ranked just above Supergirl at 73. Another Fraction comic, Punisher War Journal, is ranked 75.

Hopefully, the title is in no danger of being cancelled. Given the promise of Johns and Robinson to include the title in the Superman family, I doubt it.

The Comic Book Resources breakdown is a bit easier to interpret than the Newsrama one.

Issue 29 - 33,154 units sold
Issue 28 - 32,985 units sold

An increase of 0.51% ... or stability.
