The Supergirl news and reviews have
been coming so fast that it has been a couple of weeks since the DC Solicits
were released. And the October solicits look pretty incredible. So sorry for
the delay. If you want to look at all the solicits, you can head here:
And now here are the books that
grabbed me.

First
off, I love the cover, an homage to Superman #205.
And I really like the
idea of the Superman family acting like a family, co-starring in each other's
books. A Supergirl with amped up powers? Interesting.
Too bad we don't have
Robson Rocha on art. I thought Robson was going to be the regular artist. On to
the rest of the book!
GOTHAM CITY GARAGE #1
Written by JACKSON LANZING and COLLIN KELLY
Art by BRIAN CHING
Cover by RAFAEL ALBUQUERQUE
Variant cover by DAN PANOSIAN
A new series inspired by the DC Collectibles statue line! It’s been decades since Governor Lex Luthor turned Gotham City into a modern utopia, saving his people from the devastation that made the rest of the continent a wasteland. But his city isn’t paradise for everyone. If the Lexes network misfires, and a citizen wakes up and steps out of line, the Bat and his minions are brutal in restoring the status quo. So when young Kara Gordon, whose ridealong tech has never functioned optimally, rushes headlong into the Freescape, she’s shocked to find Gotham City Garage—where new friends might become family, if she lives long enough.

With Bombshells being dropped, maybe I should
give another book based on a statue line a shot. This sounds like Akira or Mad
Max meets DC Superhero Girls. I am grabbed by the concept of Kara Gordon,
Supergirl as Batgirl's sister. That alone makes me intrigued. I have said I'm
not a fan of the waist tattoo. But I didn't like the Bombshell Supergirl outfit
either. It's all about the story.

We finally learn who Mr. Oz is. I love this cover, an homage
to All Star Superman #10. But getting to the end of this story makes me very
happy. Who will it be??

Looks like we’ll be picking up the God-Killer
storyline from earlier in this title. Lex leading Apokolips is a fascinating
turn, even then. And anytime I see Fourth World characters, I’m happy. And Lois
as a Fury … well, I’ll have to wait and see.

Loving this book. The boys being
thrust into a Crisis-sized threat is funny. They are so inexperienced. They
haven’t gelled as a team. How will they win??

Perhaps
the solicit I am most interested in. I loved K.Perkins update of Maxima when
she was on Supergirl. This looks like a more classic Maxima than the young
princess Kara befriended. And, as I said, I love the Superman family starring
in each other’s books.

The
idea that the evil I Ching might be called ‘All-Yang’ is just about perfect. I
am hoping this book sticks around!

Definitely
not for me. I’m not a fan of this costume enough to grab this for the
collection. But if you like this outfit, it looks like a great figure.
So a
pretty good month!

Still no team affiliation for Supergirl eh? "Bombshells" quite literally is her only consistent appearance outside her own book, and yes that is a thought to chill the blood.

I think Supergirl has had a really good representation lately. In recent time we have had Supergirl on CW, her own comic, Bombshells, Injustice 2 comic and game, Supergirl: Being Super, DC Superhero Girls as comics, youtube show, Lego youtube show, Lego Movie (Brain Drain), Two more animated movies (Hero of the Year, Intergalactic games), she has had appearances in Action Comics, and soon she will have an appearance in Superwoman. It also wasn't long since she was in Justice League 3001.
I really can't complain about her appearances, but of course I would love more, especially in the main contuinity. I'm really hoping (though not believing) that it was her we spotted in the Justice league trailer so we can get her introduced into the DCEU soon.
/K
Oh, and I forgot the Young Adult book by Lisa Yee which is a nice read. Another young adult book based on the CW Supergirl called the Age of Atlantis is coming soon too.
I don't think that there are many of DCs heroes who get more appearances than Supergirl right now. Batman of course... :D DC puts Batman in everything.
/K
Yeah she's getting decent play these days.
I don't think I want her in the Titans, so you have to figure out some other team ... Legion ???
That's Robson Rocha's art on the cover of Supergirl 14 (signature next to Supergirl's knee), so that "art and cover" credit to Jose Luis is at least half incorrect. If the interior art is by Luis, I suspect Rocha is just taking the month off, maybe to get ahead on deadlines.
If I got to choose I would have loved to see her teamup be a road-movie style one. Maybe during a teamup with Babs and some mystical character (Silver Banshee?) they get setup so the authorities and in extension the other superteams need to go after them. It would be a framed biweekly story over maybe one year or so where they drive from town to town helping people, solving small problems, trying to stay under the radar while slowly uncovering the plot behind why they were framed and by who. Kara is good with advanced science, Babs with tinkering and practical science, and then someone who knows the mystical world.
The Justice League style groups feel too much like business over relafions for me. A road movie style grouping would be a better place to get characters really close and bond in deeper friendships.
/K
I've always dreamt of a all female super-team, co-directed by Babs and Kara, although given the distribution of female characters on other super teams, they'd have to recruit C or D listers (not necessarily a bad thing) or the writers might to create some original characters.

So looking forward to finding out who Mr Oz is in Action Comics and the 'Game of Thrones' on Apokolips story in Superman. Superman is also appearing in Hal Jordan and the Green Lantern Corps issues in October still wearing the Yellow Lantern costume from the Sinestro storyline. I hope Superman as a Yellow Lantern can be done as well as Supergirl being a Red Lantern because otherwise it's weird.

Perkins on Superwoman has been a nice change, she's making me enjoy this book a lot more than I had been. Hope she can maintain her version of Maxima somehow, I liked it better than the man hungry husband chasing version.
New Super-Man continues to hold my attention, which surprises me. I didn't think the book would last, instead I'm looking forward to it each month.
Supergirl has a guest star, I wish they'd spend some time developing the book's cast. And I wish they hadn't felt the need to clone everything about the show except the parts I enjoy: James, Alex, and J'onn. It hasn't been one of my Rebirth favorites, I wish I could say otherwise. Wish I could have Queens, barista life, Siobhan, and even Crucible back.
I'm not a big fan of the Bombshells look for Supergirl, but that is an odd looking action figure. I hope the final version looks a bit better, the face on this one would give me nightmares.
