Jamal Igle Off Supergirl?

Over on Bleeding Cool, Rich Johnston has a brief piece that Jamal Igle is off the Supergirl title and moving to Birds of Prey. There isn't much more to that story but here is the link:
http://www.bleedingcool.com/2010/08/04/three-birds-in-the-hand

What's worse is that over on his blog, when asked about it, Igle gives the dreaded 'no comment'.

If true, I suppose it simply the way of things. The 'band' couldn't stay together forever. Instead of feeling morose, I suppose I should celebrate all that Jamal has brought to the book. It really has been a golden couple of years for Supergirl fans and Jamal Igle was a big part of that.

That said, I will publicly say that I hope it is all hogwash and that Igle isn't going anywhere. And if fan sentiment factors in at all, I hope he realizes how much Kara fans love his rendition of her.

I can only hope that Sterling Gates is sticking around.

I wonder how soon we will learn what happened behind the scenes and the why's about the change?

J.I. seemed so certain he was going to be on Supergirl for a very long time from his interviews.

Well, I hope they bring Matt Camp on board Supergirl; his polished style fits the book very well.

Actually, I find that rumour quite strange. I sometimes like going to the Dc forums, and read the comments about the Supergirl, Birds of Prey and Secret Six threads because I luke those comics very much.
I noticed a very rude fan trying to spark controversy in the Birds of Prey forum, by speaking very badly about Ed Benes and saying how unprofesional this artist is and he kept going on and on with his ill-tempered opinions. Assuring in a very bad mannered way, that mr Benes would be fired foe example. Then, the same fan began insisting that mr Igle would become the artist for BoP. I couldn´t help but feeling a bit horrified after reading all that U.U

I love both of Benes and Igle´s styles, they are very different and at the same time very elegant and warm. Benes enjoy portraying sensuality and Igle can draw beautiness in each character without turning them into America´s Next Top Model.

I don´t know if Igle will replace Benes or not, if there´s no official message, then this story of art changes is only that, a story.
I think that Ige and Sterling are just in the beginning with Supergirl, and Igle might want to see her grown a bit more before leaving her to another artist´s hands.

I think that rumour should not be taken seriously, it seems that neither Jamal nor the boses are taking it either ^-^

P.s- sorry for some of my grammatical mistakes.

O.o weeeird, bit of surprise if it's true. I like his work on Supergirl and he survived the assault that the infamous shorts brought.

Of course sometimes an artist wants to take at least a short break and do something else, perhaps that's the case, 2 or 3 issues..

It really will suck if he leaves. But he had a good run and set the bar for future Supergirl artists. Maybe if we are lucky DC will put Matt Camp on the book. Or maybe DC really liked Cliff Chiang on Supergirl 50 and decided to make him artist....hopefully.

Say it ain't so Jamal... :(

Working with Gail Simone on a better selling book seems like a good idea, but following Benes? Cheesecake fans would tear Igle apart. It's like when Gary Frank replaced J. Scott Campbell (& clones) on Gen13. That title never recovered, and it took years for Frank to rebuild his marketability.

I don't think (if true) we'll learn much more. My guess is Jamal will talk about a new challenge and the chance to work with Gail.

But I hope he stays.

Well, if Jamal is leaving (and we don't know if it is true), I agree. Matt Camp's issues have been sharp and he would be a great new artist for the title.

But I hope Jamal stays.

No one is confirming the truth behind this rumor ... which of course leads to speculation.

I hope Jamal stays on the book.

That's 2 votes for Matt Camp. I think he'd be fantastic.

Cliff Chiang is another great idea.

But I hope Jamal sticks around.

It's a great point. I don't think Benes fans would be happy with Igle's style. I don't know if the hardcore BoP fans would mind ... but it would be a stark difference.

Jamal should just stay on Supergirl ... LOL

I really hope Jamal is staying, but it's his choice. As you say, Anj, he's given us a great run. Good luck to him, whatever.

I love Matt Camp's stuff but he says can't make a monthly schedule work. But maybe he could share the book. Perhaps we could benefit from the sad cancellation of Billy Batson by grabbing Mike Norton?

Well that would be a bummer - I like Benes on Birds and get pretty sick and tired of the abuse he gets in some circles. In a perfect world, keep the artists where they are so I get to enjoy them both. (Hey, I'm selfish)

Saying that, I'd be curious to see his work on Birds, I think it would be a great fit. While action packed, Simone doesn't shirk on character interplay and Jamal's brilliance with expressions would serve the title well.

If he goes, I'd thank him for the stellar art on SG, wish him well - and then pray that Kara gets someone great. The new artist would have some very large shoes to fill.

^ Sorry for the bad grammar, in the 2nd senetence I should have said "I'd be curious to see Igle's work on birds"

Hard news if true, Igle's Supergirl was slender, pretty and vaguely athletic without the creep factor creeping in.
However as long as Don Heck or Win Mortimer don't get the sinecure I can roll with the punch...
Here is hopin' Sterling Gates sticks around though, that guy just GETS Supergirl the way Denny O'Neill "got" Batman or Chris Claremont "got" the X-Men.

This is very sad news. I just wonder how it will effect the title down the road. It always seemed Gates and Igle were a team in their collaboration, more than just working together. Will definitely miss Igle's work on Supergirl.

Yeah ... I can't begrudge him for doing whatever he thinks is right. I just have to be happy with the great stuff he gave to the book.

Assuming this rumor is true, of course.

Curious is a good word. Jamal Igle's style is certainly different then Ed Benes or Adriana Melo. I agree that he could render the relationship part of BoP perfect. But it feels like Simone is leaning away from that with this version.

The 'lack of creepiness' is probably Igle's legacy to the book, so different from many of the artists who came before him.

And yes, if Sterling Gates says he is leaving the book it will feel downright melancholy.

Well, assuming it is true, I can only hope DC will pick an artist who likes the character as much as Jamal did, someone willing to add the small details that made his work such a joy to look at on the book.

And yes, assuming the rumor is true, I will miss his work here.

I'm sure I saw something on Gail Simone's twitter feed confirming that Igle is moving to BoP.

I'd be sad to see Igle off Supergirl, but I'd be more inclined to buy BoP if he was doing the art (not a fan of Bene's recent style).

Of course, they could be doing a swap, and Benes could come to Supergirl...

I also hope It isn't true that Jamal's getting the boot. If anything maybe previous SG artist from the PAD/Linda Danvers run can pull into the void. A la Leonard Kirk.

If anything Matt Camp could be a good filler for Jamal Igle when and if he's off the series. They both have similar, clean styles to the way they draw people and things in the series.
