Collected Wednesday Comics

One thing that was announced last week at the Baltimore Comic-Con was how Wednesday Comics was going to be collected. Here is the link from DC Comics Source blog: http://dcu.blog.dccomics.com/2009/10/12/unveiling-the-details-on-the-wedneasday-comics-collection/

Just announced at the Baltimore Retailer Summit, we've got the details on the Wednesday Comics collection, a topic that's been hotly debated and prognosticated by fans since the inception of the series.

he hardcover collection of the series, which will retail at $49.99, will clock in at 11x17 inches, which will present the series in a deluxe, big-screen format befitting the series, which was orignally printed on broadsheet newspaper pages.

I am of two minds when it comes to purchasing this collection.

Part of the charm of the series was it's format. The ability to tuck the folded paper under my arm as I walked around the house ... The snapping of the pages taut so that I could peruse the entire wide screen art ... the feel of the newsprint under my fingers. All of that will be gone.

Plus, the price tag is a little steep for a series where I only loved a third, liked a third, and kind of didn't care about another third. Is it worth it to drop 50 bucks when I may never read the Teen Titans, Metal Men, and Sgt Rock pages?

That said, I bet it will be a marvelous coffee table book, a way to show some non-comics people what I love about the medium. And my guess is the art will crackle on high gloss paper.

And the art is part of the draw for me as well.

In Wednesday Comics we saw this ...

And we saw this ...

But we also saw eye-popping huge panels of incredible power like this one ...

And this one ...

And this one ...
I guess we will have to see just how many pennies I have saved when the book gets released. My sense is I may ask for it for the holidays.

Any of you considering this as a purchase?

I'm definitely getting it but will have to put it on laybuy and pay it bit by bit, heh. :)

aww i was hoping they'd collect each strip seperately, or at least mix and match them.
i won't be buying it. I only cared for a few stories so i'll just keep the newspaper versions.

Tho' it's a lot of money, I'll buy the collection. I loved the work by Amanda Conner and Ryan Sook (and whoever drew the Wonder Woman comic), and liked the the nice artwork in the stories that were not my favorites.

I agree with a lot of what has been said.

I might wait and see if they release a paperback version cheaper.

The price is a bit steep.
