But one thing that was hanging over the show was the fate of Calista Flockhart and Cat Grant. The creation of a 'new job' for Kara in the first season finale as well as the creation of Snapper Carr's role as a journalistic boss, it seemed like things were set up to simply have Cat be gone.
Earlier this week the news broke that Calista Flockhart was returning to the show in a limited capacity. Here is a link to Variety's coverage:http://variety.com/2016/tv/news/supergirl-season-2-calista-flockhart-recurring-guest-star-1201827963/
Hmmm ...recurring guest star?
The actual news item is brief and here are a couple of blurbs.
Supergirl’s upcoming move from Los Angeles to Vancouver will
result in changes ... former
series regular Calista Flockhart will
be reducing her appearances in the sophomore season, having signed on as a
recurring guest star as the show shifts to a new shooting location and network. Flockhart
will appear in multiple episodes beginning with the Season 2 premiere, which
bows October 10 on The CW.
I suppose any Cat is better than none. Does 'recurring guest star' mean 3 episodes? 7? A couple where Cat is the focus of the plot? I suppose Cat will be able to disappear by saying she is traveling or setting up a new CatCo site on the east coast. And then Snapper will step in as 'acting boss'.

“‘Supergirl’ wouldn’t be
‘Supergirl’ without the amazing Calista Flockhart as Cat Grant. We are so
excited Calista has agreed to continue on the show when she can. We and the
audience love to see her on screen,” said “Supergirl” executive producer Andrew
Kreisberg in a statement.
I think many of us felt that the Cat/Kara moments on the show were some of the best. So I, like Andrew Kreisberg, am excited to see her back. The 'when she can' comment makes it seem more up in the air than something set like the famous Farrah Fawcett 'I'll do three more appearances on Charlie's Angels' clause of the 70's.
We are just a couple of months away from the second season premiere. Hooray for us!

"Recurring guest star" could mean anything, it's the actual number of appearances that matter in the end.
Hopefully more than 1, but definately better than none for sure. And agree, Cat Grant's been one heckuva
impression on Supergirl, and definately one I think for the better. I recall initially the speculation
was that she'd be similar to her comics counterpart always criticizing and belittling Supergirl, but the
Berlanti et al rendition of a mentor / mother figure I can get behind.
Can only see where things go from here!
And to add to the news, anyone check the posted pics over at Supergirl.tv for today? :D
Regards
I see a lot of Kara-Cat teleconferencing scenes to keep that dynamic going...
