September 2016 Solicits

The wait is over.
We finally have an official solicit for Supergirl #1 and all the DC books for September.

Solicits have one job, to grab me as a consumer and make me want to buy a book I normally wouldn't. And this month's solicits do just that. I am on board with a lot of the DC Rebirth books. And some of these solicits make me even more interested! Here is a link to the whole slate:
http://www.newsarama.com/29792-dc-comics-full-september-2016-solicitations.html

And here are the actual solicits and some comments.

SUPERGIRL #1
Written by STEVE ORLANDO
Art and cover by BRIAN CHING
Variant cover by BENGAL
Blank variant cover
“REIGN OF THE CYBORG SUPERMAN” part one! Supergirl is back and working for the DEO to defend National City! As Kara Danvers, average American teenager and high school student, Supergirl must balance her life as a superhero with her new life on Earth. But some demons from her Kryptonian past are coming back to haunt her, and Kara will find herself face-to-face with her father: the sinister Cyborg Superman!
On sale SEPTEMBER 7

So mark the calendar! September 7 is the drop date for Supergirl. We will have read the Supergirl Rebirth Special by now. But this book's set up seems to resonate with the show. She is Kara Danvers. She works for the DEO. She lives in National City.

Now one of my least favorite parts of the New 52 Supergirl was the revelation that Zor-El was a creepy scientist who experimented on his daughter and ultimately became the Cyborg Superman. Will Steve Orlando be able to make decent sense of this? I hope so.

But how great that we get a Bengal variant and a blank variant!!
And now the rest of the super-solicits.

ACTION COMICS #963
Written by DAN JURGENS
Art by PATRICK ZIRCHER
Cover by CLAY MANN and SETH MANN
Variant cover by GARY FRANK
“WHO IS CLARK KENT?” part 1! Look—down there on the ground! It’s a guy, he’s kinda ordinary...it’s—Clark Kent?! As Metropolis recovers from the devastating attack of Doomsday, the mysterious figure claiming to be Clark Kent takes the spotlight to clear his name and prove once and for all that Clark Kent is not Superman!

Variant cover by GARY FRANK
“WHO IS CLARK KENT?” part 2! Superman comes face to face with Clark Kent, and he wants answers! But first the Man of Steel must protect his former alter ego. Clark Kent tells all in this shocking issue! And don’t miss the return of a ghost from Smallville past…

This is one of those fun solicits. I love the riff on 'look, up in the sky!' lines in the first solicit. I also like that Doomsday is already gone. At least we aren't bogged down by the return of the monster.

Now the Clark Kent mystery is one that I am very intrigued by. Given the recent double Supermen, avatar Supermen, and the innumerable shape-shifters, I wonder who this Clark is? I don't have enough info to guess.

Lastly, a ghost from Smallville? Pete Ross? Kenny Braverman? Moosey Draper? Hmmm ....

SUPERMAN #6
Written by PETER J. TOMASI and PATRICK GLEASON
Art by PATRICK GLEASON and MICK GRAY
Cover by DOUG MAHNKE
Variant cover by KENNETH ROCAFORT
“SON OF SUPERMAN” part 6! The evil Eradicator faces off against Superman and son in a battle that may save the day but destroy the moon.

SUPERMAN #7
Written by PETER J. TOMASI and PATRICK GLEASON
Art by JORGE JIMENEZ
Cover by PATRICK GLEASON
Variant cover by KENNETH ROCAFORT
“SON OF SUPERMAN” part 7! In this epilogue issue, Superman considers the toll his battles with the Eradicator and Doomsday have taken on his family and the need for a normal life. But can the Man of Steel ever take a day off?

The Eradicator destroying the moon? Sounds EXTREME!
I kid. I liked the Eradicator idea in the Reign of Supermen and after. So am intrigued to see how this Eradicator exists. Will we be seeing more Byrnesian Superman mythos?

Superman #7 is drawn by Jorge Jimenez who is on as the artist of Super-Sons. As this is a 'day off' issue, I wonder if it is a zero issue for the Super-Sons book.

SUPERWOMAN #2
Written by PHIL JIMENEZ
Art by PHIL JIMENEZ and MATT SANTORELLI
Cover by PHIL JIMENEZ
Variant cover by TERRY DODSON and RACHEL DODSON
“WHO IS SUPERWOMAN?” part 2! The battle of Metropolis Harbor rages on and the casualties are mounting! To save both herself and the city from the ultra-powered Bizarress duo, Superwoman must turn to John Henry Irons—a.k.a. Steel—for help! But there is a larger villainous force at work behind the scenes, and you won’t believe who it is! Buckle up for the shocking true identity of Ultra Woman!

So I am on board for Superwoman. But I am worried about the concept a bit. Super Lois dying? Can that be played out long term? I don't know ...

But this cover and solicit actually makes me more excited for the book. Bizarress? And Ultra Woman?

I am hoping Ultra Woman isn't Lana. But we'll see.

TRINITY #1
Written by FRANCIS MANAPUL
Art and cover by FRANCIS MANAPUL
“BETTER TOGETHER” part 1! Together again for the first time! Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman. The core of the World's Greatest Heroes…but with a new Man of Steel, the bonds these three share will be tested and redefined by super-star writer/artist Francis Manapul. In this premiere issue, see the trio travel from Metropolis to Gotham City and beyond to learn what forces launched their heroic careers. But how will this journey of discovery lead them to a new threat?

I am going to give Trinity a shot. I have faith in Francis Manapul. And I don't mind origin issues.

Will I stay?

Hoping Trinity #1 grabs me like a first issue should.

NEW SUPER-MAN #3
Written by GENE LUEN YANG
Art by VIKTOR BOGDANOVIC and RICHARD FRIEND
Cover by VIKTOR BOGDANOVIC
Variant cover by BERNARD CHANG
“MADE IN CHINA” part 3! When Kenan Kong decided to out the Justice League of China to the world, he was just trying to impress people, not start a revolution! But the damage is done, and the fallout turns deadly as these heroes come face to face with Flying Dragon General and the Freedom Fighters of China!

Will Yang be able to overcome The Truth? Will this be a fun book to read? Will I come to care for Kenan?

Justice League China is a nice idea. Is it just the Great Ten renamed?

DC COMICS BOMBSHELLS #17
Written by MARGUERITE BENNETT
Art by SANDY JARRELL and MIRKA ANDOLFO
Cover by ANT LUCIA
Led by Batwoman and Renee Montoya, a rebel group is formed: Harley Quinn, Poison Ivy, Zatanna and Constantine, Raven, Catwoman, and the Huntress! As they make a run for it to the coast, they become surrounded—it’s a trap! Someone in the rebel group is a traitor, but who? And why? Find out here!

Hooray that Bombshells is continuing!

But this is the second solicit in a row with nary a mention of Supergirl or the Bombshells at the front. Hoping they aren't the sidelines for too long.

So what grabbed your attention!

Aiyee Big Daddy Cyborg Superman NOT an auspicious reboot for my All Time Favorite DC Character, but I will as usual wait to see it play out.
Here is a radical idea...what is Zor-El and Allura are both DEAD ??? Recalled in flashbacks, alluded to in conversation, mourned, remembered but still DEAD??
I know it's hard to grasp but sometimes supporting characters are on the Terminal Dirt Nap for a reason....

:)

I'm hoping Steve Orlando somehow undoes Zor as Cyborg Superman because it's a horrible idea.

Where did you get that Super-Lois may be dying, I don't see that in the solicits.

I think I'll wait to see what you reckon to the Chinese Super-Man belore buying it, the idea just doesn't grab me... then again, I may miss a gem!

I've cancelled my digital sub to Bombshells, I've not read it for about 20 weeks, I'll catch up at some point and then reconsider.

Zor not being a Cyborg Supes would be welcomed!

It was in the Superwoman 1 solicit they said she was dying.
