More April Solicits

As usual a couple of surprises were noted at the bottom of the complete April Solicitations.

Here is the link:

SUPERGIRL: FRIENDS AND FUGITIVES TP

Written by STERLING GATES & GREG RUCKA • Art by JAMAL IGLE & others •
Cover by JOSHUA MIDDLETON

Supergirl and Flamebird must work together to track down their father’s assassin – Reactron! But these childhood friends find themselves at each other’s throats in these stories from SUPERGIRL #43 and 45-47, ACTION COMICS #881-882 and SUPERMAN SECRET FILES 2009 #1.

This is an advance solicitation for May. I am pretty happy with the layout of this trade. It would have been pretty easy to just have this be a 'Hunt For Reactron' trade. Luckily, it includes the Secret Files story with Thara/Kara on Krypton as well as both the 'Guilding Day' issue and the 'Alura Monologue' issue as well. All of those stand-alone stories could easily have been omitted. But they are of such high quality, they needed to be collected somewhere.

No mention of a foreword or extras. But the Helen Slater foreword on 'Who Is Superwoman?' was announced just before the release. I can always hope that there will be some extra goodies in the trade.

JUSTICE LEAGUE: CRY FOR JUSTICE HC

Written by JAMES ROBINSON
Art and cover by MAURO CASCIOLI

A new team of heroes – Green Lantern, Green Arrow, Supergirl, Atom, Shazam, Congorilla and Starman – unite to take a proactive approach to fighting crime! Following the deaths of JLA heroes Batman and Martian Manhunter, this new team stands determined to stop evil from ever striking so drastically again. But when Prometheus plans his revenge on the heroes, will this new team be ready to pay the cost for the justice they seek?

Also an advanced solicit, this one for June. I don't think I will have enjoyed Cry For Justice enough to warrant buying it in trade form, let alone hard cover. I usually reserve buying the trade on top of the monthlies for arcs I know I will want to reread many times over.

I'll have to see how it ends and how much the soft cover is before I make a final decision.

i think the thing about the 'cry for justice' trade is that its going to have massive repercussions for the ongoing justice league, green arrow, and titans lines. it mayn't have much going for supergirl, sadly, but its going to be a big starting point for other stories in the dcu come 'brightest day'...

I would love to see Sterling Gates and/or Jamal Igle write an introduction about why they like Supergirl, how they got on the title, or some interesting trivia about this particular story arc.

I agree completely that Cry For Justice does look like it will impact the DCU as a whole.

I may pick up the soft cover; but I haven;t enjoyed it enough to buy the hard cover.

A Gates/Igle foreword would be great. These issues ran a year after their run on the title started so they would be comfortable talking about the title. I would love to hear their thoughts on the character and their run.
