New Costume? Secret Identity?

Okay ... so I am stuck at work and I haven't to the comic book store to buy issue #34 yet.

But I am impressed with the comic media blitz that DC is rolling out for the book including the Newsarama links, a front and center shot of the cover on DCComics.com and now this interview with Sterling Gates on Comic Book Resources. Here is the link:

Now the interview is well worth reading and includes things like Gates' lifelong love of Kara (join the club) and his and Jamal Igle's approach to Supergirl.

But 2 images of Igle's stuck out.

1) Her costume: Look at this sketch of Supergirl by Jamal Igle. Notice the full shirt on the costume? I did. Looks almost Matrix-y, albeit with loose sleeve ends and the gold trim.

Now Igle has come out and said that he is merely 'tweaking the costume', not revamping it. So I don't know if this is what Supergirl will be wearing soon or just some concept art.

It is sort of a mirror position to this other promotional art piece of his that has been released.

And check out this one!

2) Secret identity: All along I have been saying that Kara needs a secret identity and the new team, while never confirming it, seemed to hint one was on the way. And now we see this picture of Linda Lang?? Ahhh, those dreaded initials L.L. crop up again. We know Lana is going to be a mentor to Kara in the new run. Looks like she will also provide her name for a secret identity.
And 'Linda' has sort of a Clark feel to her. I am sure she won't always look like Annie Hall. And I love the description ... quirky, cute, funny.

I, for one, am thrilled by both these pics and this new creative direction. Review of Supergirl #34 to come soon!

what a great little image of linda lang... i do wish they'd open up their name books a bit, though. the name 'linda' may be a nice name, but its been used quite often enough in supergirl, i think. perhaps a laura or leah could've come through. i do like the link to lana lang, though.
your top pic of supergirl is great, too. i'm not a big fan of the matrix outfit, but i do enjoy the wide sleeves and cut skirt. the wide lapel around the shoulders connecing the cape is good, too...
can't wait to read the new issue!!!

Thanks for the comment.

I like that costume too, a nice mix of the old and new.

We didn't see a costume in #34 yet. Review tomorrow.

Hi Anj

Have been reading your site for months and love it. I dropped Supergirl a few months back, but your entries, "Action" and issue #34 have drawn me back in. Wont step on your review of #34 except to say I loved it and feel that for the first time since the original "Crisis" we may have Kara Zor-El back again. For me #34 was a perfect issue minus the colouring faults and pesky editors notes (something that never bugged me before the Amazing Spider-Man relaunch). If this is the new standard, plus the Matrix-like tweaks to the currently skanky costume, and making Lana relevant again, then I'm back in for the long haul.
Thanks again for the blog all the way from Australia

"Linda Lang" eh? It's....er, different I'll give you that. Heh.

And if THAT new piece of Igle's is what we can expect for his run on Supergirl then I'm all the more for it! W00T! Seriously, not only does it honor Mr. Turner's original but it also seems to be honoring the 84 Supergirl movie/Post-COIE eras Matrix incarnations all at the same time! wow! :D
