My Adventures of Superman S3E2 came out last week and continued to push the overall storyline of this season forward. It is clear that the showrunners are going to lean into two areas. The first will be the concept of identity, especially in Supergirl and for plot, the idea of the Reign of Supermen, probably looking at what it means to be Superman, or an evil version, or a clone, etc. Meanwhile, it continues to be amusing and cute in just the right measure.
This episode brings the super-crew to, of all places, a fan con. Most of that plotline revolves around Supergirl coming to grips with being new to the world and wanting to have a partner. From Jimmy's noble worries about Kara's affection to Cat Grant becoming a foil (leaning into Sterling Gates' run), we are going to get a lot of Supergirl dealing with her past and future this season. After last year's rough run of her as Brainiac's weapon, I hope we will see her get to a happy place.
As for the other theme of Superman's identity, we already had a version of Bizarro introduced. In this episode, we get Hank Henshaw's Cyborg Superman. Perhaps the thing that pleases me the most is that Luthor is really deep in that mess. I want to see Lex sort of emerge as the arch-villain here.
Despite the heavy topics, there is still the humor I love in the show. A super-villain wanting to date Superman. Jimmy Olsen's self-made comic books. Lois losing her mind. Cat Grant cackling like a Disney evil queen. It all made me smile between the action.
The episode starts with a montage of what it is like to have two Kryptonians patrolling Metropolis. Supergirl and Superman work together seamlessly to save kids from being hit by cars, stopping robberies, and other crimes. They always end high-fiving each other (although here, she self-high-fived, something I do all the time!).
What is funny is to see their interactions. Kara is a stern hero yelling at the bad drivers and crooks. Superman is calming to the kids and helpful to the victims. They are different and that difference will drive some storylines for sure.
At the con, Jimmy again tells Lois that he is going to rebuff Supergirl's romantic advantages because Kara still needs to learn about the world. Maybe he isn't good enough. I love that Lois continues tell him that he is enough.
But kudos to Jimmy. Kara has led a sheltered and abused life. She might latch on to the first person she sees out of naivete or need to replace a father figure. He doesn't want to take advantage. Of course, he could say he likes her and just tell her they aren't exclusive!
The con scenes themselves are funny. Just a few to throw out there.
Lois quoting 'Clerks' is awesome.
The Bizarro creature wandering in and being photobombed with Titans cosplayers is fantastic.
But the best has to be Jimmy producing his own comic books and one of the covers riffing of one of the most famous Jimmy covers is fantastic.
Kara outright asks Jimmy to be her 'mate' like Lois and Clark are. (I love that she calls Superman Kal but Jimmy calls him Clark.)
But Jimmy basically tells her that he wants her to explore the world before settling. Noble. But he could also say he has feelings.
And be careful what you wish for.

Supergirl is introduced to the world at a panel at the con but Superman hears an emergency and flies off. I suppose things might be better with him on the panel as a buffer.
But he interrupts a bank robbery led by The Whip, a beautiful Russian woman with the hots for Superman and Kryptonite powered whips.
I love her banter with Superman especially given how sweet he is in this show.
What grabbed me was her telling Superman that Kryptonite is everywhere and easy to obtain in Metropolis. This has to be Lex.
At the show Lois spies Winslow Schott at a booth. He swears he has given up his criminal ways but she isn't buying it.
I must admit, Lois is a bit of a bully and almost stalker here, pestering Schott nonstop as he tries to sell his wares. She is tenacious.
At the panel, Cat starts out with some questions that show how Supergirl is still new to the world - horoscope signs and skin regimens. The crowd laughs making Kara seem nervous.
(It reminded me of a scene in Cosmic Adventures where the kids laugh at Kara's misunderstanding English a little.)
But then Cat shows the sort of cattiness she is known for, asking what Supergirl brings to the table. Does the world need a Supergirl, pure Cat vs. Kara stuff from as early as Supergirl #34.
Finally a fan gets a word in.
Jessica Cruz (!!) stands up and says the difference between Supergirl and Superman. Superman protects. But Supergirl is brave and fights for the people.
I have heard the rumors of a Cruz GL cartoon in the works. Here we see the introduction.
And great she defends Supergirl.
The panel ends with Kara saying all eligible men should come to her booth to meet her. I mean, if Jimmy doesn't want to date her and wants her to see the world, she will do it.
Love how Jimmy stews at his booth. Be careful what you wish for!
And then Lex shows up and says he has an offer for Jimmy.
Hmmmm ...
Perhaps he wants Jimmy to be the social media mogul for Lex's new creation (coming up).
The Whip's Kryptonite power pack ends up being drained and powerless. Armed with just whips, she is quickly tied up by Superman.
I love how she continues to vamp!
Meanwhile, the Lois story has bubbled in the background the whole episode.
She finally goads him into villainy by saying that he is a shoddy and low-level inventor.
Now if she hadn't done that, would he have remained good and just sold teddy bears? Is she responsible for this somehow?
Regardless, it turns out his whole booth is a transformer which he brings together as a Gundam.
Funny. But made me wonder if Lois is a bit of a nemesis.
The episode ends with the Cyborg Superman Hank Henshaw (hidden under a skin suit) dispatching the Gundam and Lex declaring him the new hero of the city.
Another clone of Superman, this one with an L-shield and a secret.
Great ending (especially the very last scene were we get a peek of his cyborg nature)!
And I love the whole feel of the show. Somehow this crew is able to pack so much into a half hour show! The adventure. The plot. The character growth. The pathos! The humor!
