DC Comics August 2026 Solicits

The August solicit for DC Comics have been released and this is the month the Kingdom of Zod event hits the stands. That alone would be news, especially when it sounds like Supergirl will be playing a major role in the event. But there are some other interesting tidbits this month that got my attention.

If you want to review the entire list, here is the link:

And now on to the super-books.

SUPERGIRL #16
Written by SOPHIE CAMPBELL
Art by JOE QUINONES
Cover by GUILLEM MARCH
Variant covers by NOOBOVICH, STEPHANIE HANS, and JOE QUINONES
Foil variant cover by MARK SPEARS

The Kryptonite Kingdom of El Caldero has been taken over by General Zod! Supergirl gathers her own super-force to infiltrate the Kingdom! Superboy-Prime, Conner Kent, Tomorrow Man, Lois Lane, Steel, Lana Lang, Natasha Irons, Princess Shark, and more of Supergirl’s wild cast!

But before they can remove Zod from power, he unleashes a dangerous new force… What is the K-Zone?!

Do I think it is pretty cool that the opening chapter of the event is in the Supergirl book? Yes I do.

We haven’t seen Zod in a while so I like that his return is splashy in this way. How much of this is coming out of the Kneel Before Zod ? Is he still leading a ragtag group of prisoners? Is he still powerless (as it was implied Superwoman Lois stole his powers)? Is that how he can stay in a K-filled nation?

But the big thing here is Supergirl gathering a super-team to infiltrate. Lois being on the team makes me wonder if she is Superwoman again, perhaps explaining Zod being able to be there. But then again, how can Kara be there if the place is dripping with Green K.

I’m pretty excited for this.
SUPERGIRL: SURVIVE #3
Written by ETHAN S. PARKER and GRIFFIN SHERIDAN
Art and cover by ROD REIS
Variant covers by TAURIN CLARKE and STEPHEN BYRNE

After their run-in with the Lantern Corps, Kara has taken Kal back to Krypton…but the real Krypton no longer exists. This one is of her own making. A shimmering city of blue constructs that shelters them from the pain of their loss. Kara could call it home and keep her cousin safe…but she’d be living a lie. Fortunately, the arrival of an interdimensional imp will help change her mind.

Long ago, I commissioned an artist to draw Supergirl as an Indigo Lantern. Later, in her own book, she became a Red Lantern.

While I still don’t know what to expect from Supergirl Survive, her being a Blue Lantern, powered by Hope, is a good hook. That might be the best Lantern fit for Kara. That said, this story of living on a phony blue world because of trauma sounds a bit too close to the depressed character in Woman of Tomorrow and almost too close to the Alan Moore classic ‘My Blue Heaven’. We shall see.
ACTION COMICS #1101
Written by MARK WAID
Art by MONTOS
Cover by GUILLEM MARCH
Variant covers by ARIEL OLIVETTI and MIKE CHOI
Foil variant cover by MARK SPEARS

Superman returned in last month’s landmark #1100 issue! Now the Man of Steel crashes into the present day and finds himself thrown into the war with Zod! With a few stowaways along for the ride including…young Clark Kent?! The battle for Zod’s Kryptonite Kingdom has already begun! Is Superman’s return too late?

I am sad to see the Superboy run by Waid and Skylar Patridge come to an end. It’s a shame we won’t get more. Perhaps the ‘young Clark Kent’ hinted at here is one last at-bat for Waid with the young hero?

I am trying to remember the last time Kal and Zod actually squared off. For a while it seemed Zod was everywhere.

SUPERMAN UNLIMITED #16
Written by DAN SLOTT
Art by RACHAEL STOTT
Cover by GUILLEM MARCH
Variant covers by ACO and TAURIN CLARKE
Foil variant cover by MARK SPEARS

Zod reveals the secrets of his Kryptonite Kingdom. His powers are back. His empire grows, but it’s not enough. He demands more. No matter the cost. Tomorrow Man, Steel, Natasha Irons, and Lana Lang work together to develop a cure for the Kryptonite infection that spreads across the world!

Well, in this chapter we hear that Zod’s powers have returned which makes me think he does indeed enter the story powerless.

I guess Lana’s Superwoman powers are still active. And I can also understand why Tomorrow Man is at the lead here given this is Unlimited, that piece of the Reign of Superboys event.
SUPERMAN #41
Written by JOSHUA WILLIAMSON
Art by EDDY BARROWS
Cover by GUILLEM MARCH
Variant covers by MIKE CHOI, VINCENZO RICCARDI, and CHRISTIAN WARD
Foil variant cover by MARK SPEARS

An epic battle of power and revenge across the Kryptonite Kingdom! An eye for an eye! But Superboy-Prime joins the fight, hoping to show the returning Superman how much he’s changed! With a shock ending that will change the Kingdom of Zod and the DC Universe forever!

It is a bummer that Dan Mora isn’t on this title here. I guess Mora can’t do everything.

At least Prime is still in the book and ready to join the fray. Do we truly believe the DCU will be changed forever with this chapter? Does Prime die sacrificing himself? Does he kill Zod?

Way too early to guess but if people have ideas, fire away! And what do you think of this very concept of Kingdom of Zod?

ABSOLUTE SUPERMAN #22
Written by JASON AARON
Art by JUAN FERREYRA
Cover by RAFA SANDOVAL
Variant covers by ERIC CANETE, JUAN FERREYRA, and SCOTT HEPBURN

Superman will stop at nothing to see the universe’s most vicious madman brought to justice. But before he can get his hands on Brainiac, Superman will have to go through Metallo, a man with Kryptonite in his veins. “Get Brainiac” begins here, kicking off the march to a game-changing blockbuster issue #25!

The Absolute Brainiac is terrifying, a sort of body horror villain from a Cronenberg movie. I suppose he fits right in with the Absolute villains in Absolute Batman. I am glad our hero is going after Brainiac. He mentally tortured Superman. Brainiac has definitely rattled Lex. (Have we seen Lex since the backyard massacre?)

Intrigued by the story and can’t wait to see Juan Ferreyra’s take on everything.

BATMAN/SUPERMAN: WORLD’S FINEST #54
Written by MARK WAID
Art by BRUNO FRENDA
Cover by DAN MORA
Variant covers by MIGUEL MERCADO and ADRIAN GUTIERREZ
Dark Knight Returns 40th Anniversary variant cover by BILL SIENKIEWICZ

Superman, Batman, and their fellow Justice Leaguers are forced to compete in Hell for the souls of all humanity—in the wildest baseball game of all time! Billions of lives depend on an impossible victory against a team of the vilest, most gruesome demons in the entire underworld!

After Kingdom of Zod, depressed Blue Lantern Kara (how is that hopeful), and disgusting Absolute Brainiac, I was glad to see this palate cleanser. Heroes playing villains in baseball is straight out of 70’s DC Comics so I know Mark Waid will bring the smiles.
ADVENTURES OF SUPERMAN: BOOK OF EL #11
Written by PHILLIP KENNEDY JOHNSON
Art and cover by SCOTT GODLEWSKI
Variant covers by LUCIO PARRILLO and CIAN TORMEY

Superman has traveled to the end of the universe to find the first God-Aspect of Olgrun and seek the aid of the Promethean giants in the fight to keep Kryl-Ux from rewriting all of existence. But there’s more waiting for the House of El than any dared fear or hope.

The penultimate issue and Superman is finally gearing up to fight Kryl-Ux.

I am hoping Phillip Kennedy Johnson and Scott Godlewski can stick the landing. How can they undo the dystopian present that is the result of the initial Kryl-Ux invasion. Hard to fathom this is the end of PKJ working on Superman …
SUPERMAN: FATHER OF TOMORROW #4
Written by KENNY PORTER
Art and cover by DANNY EARLS
Variant covers by GABRIEL HARDMAN and JERRY ORDWAY

Superman is struggling with how to help humanity reach their potential, so he looks for help from a friend in Gotham City. Enter: Batman and Robin! But Jor-El might have his hands full in Metropolis when General Sam Lane brings his WildC.A.T.S. to the city to face down the Man of Steel!

I suppose seeing other heroes and even WildCATS in this Elseworld was inevitable. Is this Bruce Wayne? He looks rather Beyond-ish here.

And Jor-El helping humanity reach their potential sounds a little problematic. Is it helping humanity? Or holding them back from their own creativity? This could be a super-villain story.
DARK KNIGHTS OF STEEL II #2
Written by TOM TAYLOR
Art by OTTO SCHMIDT
Cover by YASMINE PUTRI
Variant covers by TRAVIS MOORE, GERALD PAREL, and LUCAS MEYER

A sickness has befallen the Els, sending the Kingdom of Metropolis into disarray. But what—or who—could bring true harm to such a powerful royal family? Queen Diana and her Amazonians are intent on finding answers, but what will it cost them? Amidst the chaos, Amanda Waller takes surefooted steps into the vacuum of leadership…but she harbors an agenda far darker and more twisted than anyone yet realizes.

I liked the first Dark Knights mini-series, a pretty fun look at the DCU in a Game or Thrones sort of world. Too bad Putri seems to only be on covers and not interiors (although I like Otto Schmidt too).

Not a bad month!
