DC Comics May 2025 Solicits

The full May 2025 DC Comics solicitations have been released and it is obvious that the incoming Superman movie is spurring DC to ramp up their Superman output. Here is a link to all the books out that month: https://www.gamesradar.com/comics/dc-comics/dc-comics-may-2025-solicitations-covers/

On top of what is coming out this month, we have heard of a Matt Fraction/Mike Norton Krypto book and Mark Waid/Skylar Patridge run on Action Comics writing Superboy. Get ready for the summer of Superman and, by extension, the Super Family.

Let's dive right in!

Kara Zor-El has been a key member of the Super-Family in Metropolis, but what happens when she strikes out on her own? Follow Kara as she returns to her roots in Midvale…home of Supergirl! But how could this be?! Our hero has not been back in years, and the protector of that town has been saving the day for weeks. Can Supergirl stop the impostor before they steal her fresh start and life?

Celebrated writer/artist Sophie Campbell (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Wet Moon) makes her mark on the DC Universe with this thrilling debut issue! Plus a new costume designed by bestselling cover artist Stanley "Artgerm" Lau!

I covered my initial thoughts on the new book here . But I will again say that I have optimism around this book. Midvale hasn't been in comics for a long time. That said, the orphanage was mentioned by Mark Waid in World's Finest. So maybe some classic trappings are going to be seen here? And the imposter? Could it be Matrix? Linda Danvers?

All that said, it has been 5 years ( July 6th 2020 ) since we had a Supergirl book 'on the shelves' (remember that the last 2 issues of this volume was released as digital-only). Five years!

At least Campbell sounds like a fan of the character, more than many who have been on the book.

But wait, there's more!

Angry Superman attacking Metropolis?

And who will help Lois? With Supergirl in Midvale, who will pick up the ball?

Hope this thread is snipped soon.

Arctic attack! With Superman on the ropes, Kilg%re continues his fight against humanity with the help of the animals of the snow desert. Could our hero’s fortress hold the key to a victory? Find out in the thrilling finale of Superman Superstars!

Kilg%re!

I remember reading this villain way back in the Baron/Guice Flash book!

I haven't read Wilson's Poison Ivy but have heard great things. I like Guidry's work on Superman '78. And this precedes Waid's book.

The summer of Superman heats up with a brand-new ongoing series taking the DCU by storm! When an asteroid the size of Metropolis hurtles toward collision with planet Earth, the Justice League dispatches Superman to avert the crisis—but a sinister threat lurks within that will change the world like never before, and this danger glows green. The Last Son of Krypton must risk everything to save his adopted home, the very home which now tries to kill him, from complete destruction! The Man of Steel is poised to fly like never before in this new cornerstone series, brought to life by the dazzling DC debut of writer Dan Slott (The Superior Spider-Man) and renowned artist Rafael Albuquerque (All-Star Batman)!

I am of a fan Slott's She-Hulk and Silver Surfer for sure. I will be interested in seeing his take on Superman. And I have always been a fan of Albuquerque's art so this sounds interesting.

As I mentioned before, DC is releasing a facsimile of Superman #233, Kryptonite No More. So will this end with some 'destruction' of all the Green K on Earth?

This time I'm right.

BATMAN/SUPERMAN: WORLD'S FINEST #39
Written by MARK WAID
Art by DAN MORA
Cover by DAN MORA
Variant covers by LUCIO PARRILLO and ADRIÁN GUTIÉRREZ
1:25 variant cover by A.L. KAPLAN

“We Are Yesterday” Part Four (of six) The Batman and Superman of yesterday…today?! As Gorilla Grodd’s vicious temporal onslaught upon the Justice League continues, the Dark Knight and Man of Steel from the time of the World’s Finest get a horrifying glimpse into their own futures…and the tragedies to come! It’s minute-by-minute mayhem in the epic new installment of the “We Are Yesterday” crossover with Justice League Unlimited!

World's Finest is an Elsewhen. JLU is current and canon.

I do wonder how Waid will weave the two timelines. But it is the 'future glimpses' that intrigues me the most. This is some time in the past. Will we see Kara dying in Crisis? The first Doomsday fight?  Jason dying at the hands of the Joker? Dick giving up the Robin name? A pregnant Talia?

Waid is the preeminent DC historian. I better see some cool stuff!

ABSOLUTE SUPERMAN #7
Written by JASON AARON
Art by CARMINE DI GIANDOMENICO
Cover by RAFA SANDOVAL
Variant covers by DAN PANOSIAN and LESLEY "LEIRIX" LI
1:25 variant cover by JORGE MOLINA
1:50 cover by DAN PANOSIAN

His stolen alien technology is at the heart of Lazarus Corp’s global success. But he operates out of a seedy lair, packed with bottled cities…cities he tortures relentlessly, just to hear the faint chorus of screams. Who is the mysterious Brainiac? And why is he so interested in the Last Son of Krypton?

I have been enjoying the title more than I thought I would. But Aaron is doing a lot of world building which means Superman has been sort of shifted into the background in his own book for several of the early issues.

Now we have a Brainiac issue?

Will we get Absolute Kandor? I wonder if, in a Darkseid universe, they all go mad and kill each other.

We'll need to see if Superman is in the spotlight here, Hope so.

SUPERGIRL: THE NEW 52 OMNIBUS VOL. 1
Written by MICHAEL GREEN, MIKE JOHNSON, and others
Art by MAHMUD ASRAR and others
Cover by MAHMUD ASRAR
$125.00 US | 824 Pages

After crash-landing on Earth, Kara Zor-El of Krypton awakens with no knowledge of where she is or how she came to be there. Surrounded by hostile strangers speaking in an alien language, Kara is utterly lost and cut off from everyone she’s ever known. Or is she? A man wearing her family’s insignia appears, impossibly claiming to be her infant cousin Kal-El—the very baby she’d held in her arms just a few days ago…

The Supergirl: The New 52 Omnibus Vol. 1 collects the first half of Kara’s The New 52 debut, including Supergirl #0-20 along with Superboy #0, #6, and #14-17; Superboy Annual #1; and Superman #0, #6, and #13-17.

A New 52 Supergirl Omnibus??

H'El on Earth? Simon Tycho? A new Silver Banshee? The meeting of Supergirl and Power Girl? I don't know if this book succeeded as much as I wanted it to. You get great Mahmud Asrar art.

Thankfully, they end the book before Michael Alan Nelson takes over. Those were low times.

SUPERGIRL: COSMIC ADVENTURES IN THE 8TH GRADE (2025 EDITION)
Written by LANDRY Q. WALKER
Art and cover by ERIC JONES
$12.99 US

If you think life is tough as a hero, try being in the eighth grade!

Super-strength, the ability to fly, and extra-speedy reflexes should make a kid’s life easier, but they only seem to complicate things for Supergirl. Life gets even more messy when a new enemy named Belinda Zee shows up. Suddenly, facing down super-villains doesn’t seem so bad.

Arch-frenemies, scheming faculty, an intergalactic orange kitty, and a flying horse are just a few things that come Linda’s way. Will Supergirl even make it to graduation? Landry Q. Walker and Eric Jones explore how an ordinary girl from Krypton became the most extraordinary girl on Earth in a new edition collecting the six-issue miniseries!

Another edition of Cosmic Adventures. DC certainly is getting their money worth about this.

But why wouldn't they have green-lit the sequel we (and the creators) wanted to give us!

I am glad Landry Walker will get more royalties. I still mourn Eric Jones. Gone too soon.

SUPERMAN/BATMAN: DC COMPACT COMICS EDITION
Written by JEPH LOEB
Art by ED McGUINNESS, MICHAEL TURNER, and DEXTER VINES
Cover by MICHAEL TURNER
$9.99 US | 304 pages

Superman/Batman: Book One contains two titanic tales of loyalty and unlikely friendship featuring two of the most famous superheroes on the planet—the Man of Steel and the Dark Knight. First, “Public Enemies” unites the iconic heroes when President Lex Luthor accuses Superman of terrible crimes against humanity and assembles a top-secret team of powerhouse heroes to bring him in. But the World’s Finest duo is determined to topple the corrupt president’s reign once and for all!

Then, “Supergirl” begins with Batman discovering something strange at the bottom of Gotham Bay, which leads him to a mysterious and powerful teenage girl who is bent on destroying Gotham City! Soon she’ll capture the attention of Superman, Wonder Woman, and even Darkseid and his Female Furies. What is this strange girl’s connection to Superman? How will Darkseid succeed in recruiting her to do his bidding? Who is she, and whose side will she end up on?

I do have to say that this Summer of Superman is also the 'pre-Summer' of Supergirl given that movie is under development. A new title, an omnibus, a Cosmic new edition, and now a reprint of the Supergirl arc (along with Public Enemies) in Superman/Batman.

Busy month but it looks like a good one!

So Mora is not just drawing Superman and JLU but will also be back drawing World's Finest? Amazing!
