Legion Of Super-Heroes Animated Movie Starring Supergirl !!

Every so often a news item will come out of the blue which just tickles me, having me grin like a loon for the day.

Out of nowhere last week, we learned a new DC animated movie about the Legion of Super-Heroes is in the works, And even better, Supergirl is a big part of it.

Here is the official blurb!

One shot of the movie has been released. It should have Supergirl and Brainiac 5 fans (like me) smiling. That looks like a fantastic Supergirl. Love the look of determination, the hairdo, the hand on Brainy, and the costume. I stared at this thing all day.

And then the details.
Supergirl is headed to the 31st century with Legion of Super-Heroes, an upcoming animated feature due out early next year from Warner Bros. Animation, DC and Warner Bros. Home Entertainment.

So this is a feature and not the LSH series for HBO Max that Brian Michael Bendis is pitching, Unless this is a backdoor pilot.

Meg Donnelly voice stars as Supergirl/Kara and Harry Shum Jr. stars as Brainaic 5. The cast also includes Darren Criss as Superman, Matt Bomer as The Flash and Jensen Ackles as Batman.

I love the casting. I know Donnelly from those Zombie movies on Disney that my kids used to watch. She looks like Kara. Darren Criss as Superman is an interesting choice. And Matt Bomer as the Flash should be fun. I know a lot of people are tickled by Jensen Ackles as Batman. Regardless, it looks like there will be a JLA presence.

The story picks up as Kara, devastated by the loss of Krypton, struggles to adjust to her new life on Earth. Her cousin, Superman, mentors her and suggests she leave their space-time to attend the Legion Academy in the 31st century, where she makes new friends and a new enemy: Braniac 5. Meanwhile, she must contend with a mysterious group called the Dark Circle as it searches for a powerful weapon held in the Academy’s vault.

Brainiac 5 as an enemy?  My guess is this is a misunderstanding. That he is aloof and she's worried. But look at that cel. Those two kids come around in the end.

Throw in a list of Legionnaires and a Legion specific villain like the Dark Circle? As a Supergirl fan and a Legion fan, this sounds like a gourmet meal.

Tremendous.

This is such great news. The fact that Brainy isn’t in Bendis/Sook mode makes me happy, and hopefully we’ll see a traditional-style
LSH.

Take a look at the upcoming World's Finest! https://aiptcomics.com/2022/10/14/dc-preview-batman-superman-worlds-finest-8/

Kara's response when Clark asks for suggestions on how to help Boy Thunder have a private life:
Arms crossed, looking annoyed: 'You could always put him in an ORPHANAGE.'

hahahahahahhaha :)

Well this is welcome news, maybe these two cockeyed lovebird can finally strike some sparks.
Glad to see Kara once again headlining in the DCU’s most dependable venue, animation. I wish they’d adapt “Cosmic Adventures etc” as an animated movie or a series.
At least, something to anticipate.

Thank you so much Bostondreams, that’s a hoot. I find it astounding that no DC writer, so far as I know, ever had the original Supergirl challenge Superman on his uselessness as Only Living Relative. It could have made for a great, emotional story.

I'm definitely interested in seeing this. Though part of me hopes they don't use the 'Supergirl ops to stay in the future' trope. It's been done to death. But about damn time one of these things was Kara centric.

I'm not much of a LSH fan, but always nice to get more Kara representation in the media. Cast looks good and, other than her hair (it looks flat to me), so does the animation style. I just hope 'devastated' doesn't mean mopey and angsty- we've had enough grumpy Kara, let's see her make the most of a new experience!

Thanks for comments.

Really excited for this. Yes, it has been too long since we've seen an animated Supergirl!
