Supergirl Episode 222, the season finale titled 'Nevertheless, She Persisted, aired this week and was an incredibly intense, over-stuffed, and every emotional ending to what has been a crazy season. This episode felt more like a mini-movie than a television show with spectacular effects, a rousing score,. massive fights, and all the major characters (well most of the major characters) having key moments to move the plot along. I was thrilled. And I suppose given the names in the credits (writers Andrew Kreisberg and Jessica Quallers; directed by Glen Winter), I shouldn't be surprised.
While the title of the episode is clearly referencing Senator Warren's defiance while speaking to the Senate, the overt politics of this season were put on the back shelves a bit to let the story stand more on its own. And for the most part it delivered. The ultimate victory came in the form of a true deus ex machina, but overall this shined.
But the time has come to put a bow on this season. In looking back, the show really covered a ton of topics and subplots. Sometimes all this made Supergirl feel more like a character in an ensemble cast than the headliner.
We had multiple big bads in the form of Cadmus and the Daxamites. We had major plots involving Maggie and her relationship with Alex, Winn and his relationship with Lyra, James and his relationship with the Guardian suit, and J'onn and Miss Martian. We had political stories about alien amnesty, refugees seeking asylum, the down trodden forced into slavery, and basic prejudice. Jeremiah Danvers blipped into the storyline and then vanished again. That is a lot of ground to cover.
And I haven't even mentioned the elephant in the room ... Mon-El. At least on social media, he was something of a lightning rod. Some fans loved his arc as he tried to walk away from a rather ugly past to become something better all while inspired by Kara. Others hated him for being the epitome of the slick, emotionally abusive, frat boy. He was that kind of man that bullied his way into a relationship by constantly nagging the woman, then didn't respect her wishes, and then groveled his way back in. For me, I didn't think he was all that bad. At times his actions were cringe worthy. And unfortunately, he doesn't have a big redemptive moment in this episode. I was hoping there would be big moment where he sacrificed himself for others. All that said, I believed him when he said how inspired he was by Supergirl and what she represented. I mean, that's why I love her as a character.
But enough looking back, let's look at this episode itself. Be prepared, I took a lot of screencaps because there was so much to love. And I am going to write a lot, not only recap but thoughts. Because this was an overstuffed episode. On to the show
The episode opens with a true comic trope, hero fighting hero. In an absolute stunner of an opening sequence, we see Superman and Supergirl brawl through the streets and buildings of National City. It turns out that Rhea has poisoned him with Silver Kryptonite, making Superman see General Zod instead of Supergirl. We even get a 'kneel before me' line!
The fight is brutal and long. The score as these two trade punches is incredible. The effects were stupendous. And ending the fight in water, adding the splashes and waves to the exchanges, gave it a very dynamic feel. In the end, Supergirl ends it with a massive uppercut, sending Superman into the sky and unconsciousness.
A few things about this. First off, there was Silver Kryptonite in the comics, but it was a hoax played by Jimmy Olsen to celebrate Superman's Silver Anniversary as a hero.
Second, there were times in this fight where Superman sees Zod that made me think the writers were riffing a bit on Snyder's Man of Steel. Rhea describes Zod as Superman's greatest fear. She says Superman will protect his planet at all costs. They say he will stop Zod 'forever', perhaps a nod to Superman killing him in MoS. There is even a point in the battle, where a family is cowering in a corner as Superman sees Zod near them, reminiscent of the train station scene in MoS where Supes snaps Zod's neck. Maybe I am reading into things too much?
But what I loved (and shown in the bottom right of my montage) is that Alex is there, watching the fight. And when Superman is defeated and Supergirl is exhausted physically and emotionally, Alex runs to her and hugs her, trying to help her super-sister regain her composure. It is a small moment but really showed how these two care for each other.
The next scene shows Mon-El and Kara cuddling in a sun-speckled bed. Kara just wants to stay there forever. Mon-El calls her the 'Woman of Tomorrow', a nice call to Superman's Man of Tomorrow nickname. She reminds him about her necklace, given to her by Alura to remind her she will never truly be alone. But all this talk of having more time and solitude was clearly a foreshadow. And we all knew this wasn't really happening right?
It turns out Kara grabbed Alex and the unconscious Superman and flew them to the Fortress before collapsing herself. The cousins wake up and immediately hug. This thrilled me. The mistaken identity is behind them. They love and care for each other.
But honestly, I was surprised to see Superman back in it. I thought for sure he would have remained incapacitated for the show to get him out of the way (much like he was mind controlled last season with Myriad).
We then cut to a very upset Lena Luthor drowning her sorrows and flinging her chess pieces. I am amazed at how most adults on this show turn to booze when confronted with an emotional problem. But I like the idea of her taking out her frustrations on the chessboard. She's Lena; she's supposed to be three steps ahead of the game. But she was played herself.
In comes Lillian and we get a great scene between these two. Brenda Strong and Katie McGrath crush it here. Lena talks about how she has been so starved for acceptance, so need a mentor so she would stop doubting herself, that she was swayed by Rhea.
And Lillian, in a moment of clarity, admits she always chose 'something else' over Lena and that she regrets it. But now she knows what Lena is capable of and she needs Lena's help to save the world. She pulls out the 'Lex-Box' from the Luthors episode.
I don't know if a reconciliation between these two bodes well for Supergirl next season.
Back in the Fortress, Superman says that he was at full strength and not weakened by the Silver K when Kara defeated him. She was stronger than him.
Now if you have an issue with Supergirl being stronger (not that you should), you can use a number of explanations. While not weakened, he was addled by the Kryptonite and a less effective fighter. For me, I use the concept of Hero Points (from the DC RPG game) meaning she heroed up during the fight, expending some power to be more powerful than normal.
Superman scours the archives for some way to defeat the Daxamites and stumbles across 'Dakkam Ur'. They three fly back to the DEO where they explain that Dakkam Ur is a sacred oath for one on one battle. Supergirl will challenge Rhea with the planet at stake.
I do love the scene when Superman enters the DEO. Winn remains starstruck, shocked that Superman remembers his name. And we see Kal meet Mon-El, saying Mon must be a good man if Kara likes him.
I was at full strength and you beat me.
Supergirl invokes Dakkam Ur and the Daxamite ships (which had targeted every school, hospital, and municipal building in the city) power down their cannons. Seriously though , what kids are in school as the world ends?
In one of those moments that Mon-El haters will hate, he asks her to stand down and have Superman fight Rhea. This isn't supportive of her decision. It undermines her. He should support this, recognize this as one of the things that inspires him. But he doesn't. Superman nips it in the bud. Kara beat him; she is Earth's champion. (Whoa ... I never thought I'd see that anywhere.)
Meanwhile, J'onn who has been off the board for some time, gets shaken out of his mental anguish by a telepathic visit from M'Gann!! Looks like this show is bring back all the characters.
The fight gets silly sensational media coverage everywhere, treating this fight like a pay-per-view wrestling event rather than a world-saving last ditch effort. I loved seeing this ridiculous 'Sportscenter' like ad playing in the background.
J'onn returns to the DEO and gets a hug from Winn who calls him Papa Bear. Love it.
They realize they need to downplay this coverage so innocents won't be around the fight. Kara can't worry about them. The best way to do that is to convince Cat Grant to stop the media.
Clark and Kara head to CatCo where we again get to see Cat preen and pretty herself in Clark's presence. Clark is her Kryptonite. She calls him 'Clark Bar', and 'Kansas' (maybe a little jab at Lois' 'Smallville' nickname?). And she relents into stopping coverage of the fight.
But most interesting is her asking Kara outright if she thinks Supergirl is ready for the battle. Hmmm ....
Meanwhile, war makes strange allies. The Luthors call the Supers to LCorp.
The Lex-Box isn't a phantom zone bomb (my guess from way back). It was a way Lex was going to add slight Kryptonite to the atmosphere making Earth inhospitable to Kryptonians. Lena thinks she can alter it to add a small amount of lead to the air, harmless to humans (glad they said this) but deadly to all Daxamites.
Despite knowing this would make Mon-El need to leave (Lena even asks of Supergirl knew he was dating Kara Danvers), Supergirl asks them to build it.
And Mon-El, when he hears of it, says Supergirl should use it if she needs to. A little sacrifice on his part! Yay!
Back in the DEO, Kal and Kara spar. He talks of moves he learned on Warworld!
But she pauses to try and take stock of her life. Just when she was so close to having it all - the heroics, the job she loved, the relationship she wanted - it all is one fight away from disappearing.
He talks of how heroes can have it all if they work for it. He thinks of Lois every time he goes out and fights. And it is Lois that makes him win. All this makes me want to see Lois on this show. I am thrilled he talks so highly of her.
But hearing Kara talk of how close she is to happiness is another foreshadow, portending of tragedy.
But Rhea shows just how evil she is. Despite this being a sacred oath, she has the ships mobilize and fire onto the city. History is defined by winners. She doesn't care how she wins.
And then, in an added twist, the bloodied Rhea shows how Krypton has literally poisoned her as well. Her blood is filled with Kryptonite energy.
Now while, in theory, this is interesting, I have so many questions. If those on Daxam were poisoned like this, why didn't Lar Gand have green blood?
If the K is coursing through her veins, why doesn't her very presence weaken Kara? Why does the blood need to be exposed to air to weaken Kryptonians?
I don't know. Comic book science??
But given that we know these Daxamites aren't as powerful as Kryptonians, and knowing Supergirl just defeated Superman, we needed a reason why these two would be more evenly matched.
(As a side note, Teri Hatcher continues her delicious wickedness this whole episode! I love to hate her!!)
With the city in peril, the supporting cast goes to help the citizens.
Rhea and Kara continue to pound each other on the roof tops. I mean it, this fight is just wonderful violent.
But Mon-El fights the Daxamites on the ground. J'onn and Superman (awkwardly running down alleys?) help the citizens escape and blow out fires. M'Gann returns and brings with her White Martian allies who fight along side her. And 27 minutes in, we have our one and only James sighting, standing with Cat in Catco.
As for Lena, she and Winn finish the LexBox. It reminded me of how those two first met very early in the season! But, in an added twist, the Box can only be activated by remote control and only by Supergirl. They weren't going to let Lillian have that power. Maybe ... just maybe ... Lena is a good guy after all!!
I hope so because Katie McGrath is perfect.
The Rhea/Kara fight goes on for quite sometime and maintains that level of awesomeness. And just when it seems that Kara will succumb to the K poisoning, just as Rhea talks about moving from one city to the next to eventually rule the world, Kara digs deep and just lays the smack down.
She says that Earth is her home and she is going to protect it.
But despite Rhea's loss, the Daxamite fleet are still active and prepared to raze the city. It becomes clear, Kara will need to use the LexBox.
There is this wonderful moment when she knows this will mean that Mon-El will be banished. There is this pained look on her face when she knows that to save the world she needs to say goodbye to him, she is the reason he will be gone. It is incredible.
Benoist just nails everything in this issue, but the sadness on her face in the rest of this issue just stuns me. She is such a fantastic actress.
But it does mean the ultimate victory is Lena's. The Daxamites are removed by a machine. I don't know if I like that.
With the Box activated, the Daxamites begin suffering pain and head back to their ships. With Earth now uninhabitable, the fleet leaves.
As for Rhea, she stays on the roof, shocked at the proceedings. And then the lead poisoning turns her to a lead-looking dust. Perhaps this was a bit too 'graphite' for a kids' show?
Comic fans have seen this move before in The Legion of Super-Heroes Great Darkness Saga when Element Lad adds just enough lead to the atmosphere to incapacitate marauding brain-washed Daxamites.
But with the lead in the air, now comes the goodbyes. Mon-El, powered by the yellow sun for so long can last a few more minutes.
Chris Wood does a good job here. He says that even though this will end in sadness, the time together was worth it. He says wherever he goes, he will be better for having been with her. He will try to be the man she thought he could be. It is all very touching. And Benoist is just an emotional wreck during the scene which made it work that much more.
Hearkening back to the opening scenes, she gives him the Alura necklace and sends him away in her (or maybe his) pod. Now he will never be without her (just as she was with Alura).
The show isn't over though. The writers do a great job of giving us the fallout of Kara's decision. She seems wracked with pain and guilt, standing on the DEO balcony while the world celebrates.
Superman is the first to talk to her, saying he is humbled by her and her strength. He might not have been able to say goodbye to Lois in that way.
And then, while all the couples hug around her, Alex comes out. She says she is unbelievably proud of Supergirl and what she did. It won't mean much then but maybe it'll be something to hold on to. I wish there was more super-sister moments this season. But when they happen, they are always powerful.
Knowing that love can be fleeting, Alex then proposes to Maggie. I hope Maggie returns next season.
As great as that balcony scene was, we amp things up even more.
Kara goes to see Cat. She says that her boyfriend is gone and Cat, like usual, gives her an inspiring speech. Women are strong because the have the guts to be vulnerable and come out even stronger. Kara has grown immensely since Cat left. But this is the beginning of the hero's journey. There is more to come.
When Kara runs out to change and stop a fire, Cat says 'Go get 'em Supergirl!'
We all knew that she knew, right?? Or we all wanted her to know? This made me so happy!
Now the show could have ended there and I would have been very very pleased. But we get three more moments worth talking about.
First off, even though she is flying off to rescue people, Supergirl doesn't look as happy as she normally does. There is this pained look. She still isn't over Mon-El. I wonder if this will carry over into next season. Will she be sad?
As for Mon-El, he is flying his pod in space. I don't know if he had a destination. But a wormhole opens up. He is heading to the Phantom Zone! As a comic guy, this made me very very happy. Hurray continuity! As a reviewer, I wonder if Alura's necklace is somehow a Phantom Zone portal generator.
But then we get a sneak preview of next year! On the day Krypton exploded, as Kara was being rocketed away, another pod on another side of the planet was also being sent to Earth. This one has red power lights. The baby isn't seen but is crying until it is fed blood. And the cloaked women say 'it' is going to Earth to reign.
No doubt about it..... it's gotta be Doomsday! Well, or Reign!
Whew ... that was a lot to unpack. Maybe there is one more Supergirl Season 2 post in me next week. But what did everyone else think of the finale??

Hush. Don't tell some fanboys that. They're still froathing at the mouth.
Me? I've been a Superman fan for decades, and after watching the fight my verdict is: I have no trouble with it. Sure, if Kara had curbstomped Kal I'd have thought the show-writers have done both characters a disservice. But that was NOT what happened. Kara managed to knock him out with after a long, tough fight and collapsed right afterwards.
I have many issues with the show. This battle isn't one of them.
Supergirl has ALWAYS been as powerful as her cousin in the comics and other continuities like Smallville. Still, a lot of comic fans have always assumed for decades that Supergirl is weaker and less powerful for some unfathomable reason. So some of them -mainly the louder ones- are having a hard time believing and accepting a female Kryptonian beat a male Kryptonian (maybe you should review Faora's first appearance to put things in perspective). The fact that they're sore because their favorite character lost one fight doesn't help, undoubtedly.
I wonder what this will do for the third's season ratings. In Superman Homepage, several fans have already declared they hated the episode and they won't watch the show anymore or buy the DVDs after the writers "pulled this crap" (It's telling some of them have complained about the writing since forever, but it's only when Superman is defeated they decide to quit the show. And then they tell Superman's defeat isn't the cause? Yes, not buying it). In "Kryptonsite", though, the overwhelming opinion is "There's canon to back it up, so it's justified".
Be it as it may, ratings have improved. Ratings for the season finale were 0.6 and 2.14 million viewers. So it ends on a uptick. Great.
I think it's been confirmed we'll finally see something Legion-related in the third season. I also hope the pod's passenger is Reign. She isn't an interesting villain, but the show would be using Supergirl's super-villains instead of borrowing her cousin's. And forum-dwellers are talking about the possibility of it being Reign, so more people are aware that Supergirl. Has. Her. Own. Rogue's. Gallery.
(Off-topic, but I wanted to comment how great is Lauren Faust is at the helm of a DC Super Hero Girls reboot. I'm partially sad because Shea Fontana was doing a good work, but we kind of have Super Best Friends Forever back! And Supergirl, Batgirl and Wonder Woman are becoming established as the female DC Trinity, like they're meant to be)
Hi, Anj (and everybody). Every review I’ve read says that Rhea stayed behind in defeat. But, she asked Mon-El to help her… I really don’t think she wanted to die. I understand that Supergirl had absolutely no choice but to use the bomb, but surely by doing this, Supergirl killed Rhea. She killed her. And no one is saying anything? I want to understand why people believe Rhea chose to stay behind and die, rather than she was killed by Kara (once again the writers dismiss Supergirl's principles). Any thoughts? I want to be convinced that Supergirl isn’t directly responsible for Rhea’s death. And speaking of Supergirl’s principles… She was mad/disappointed at her father for his part in developing Medusa; but in this finale Kara takes it one-step further and actually triggers a device that poisons Earth’s atmosphere against invading forces. So, once again, she fails to live up to her principles when the writers wrote her into a situation where she had no choice. I’m not trying to be an idiot (I manage that just fine), I’m genuinely trying to understand what is confusing me.
"I understand that Supergirl had absolutely no choice but to use the bomb, but surely by doing this, Supergirl killed Rhea. She killed her. And no one is saying anything?"
I understand what you mean. Okay, I understand Supergirl was out of options... but Supergirl resorting to use lethal means? And Superman being okay with it? Should a story where a Kryptonian hero has no option but killing be written?
I don't mind when some of my heroes kill. Han Solo kills in self-defense, who cares (don't getting into the "Who shot first?" debate here). But Superman and Supergirl? It feels wrong, like that Byrne story where Superman executes Zod and two other Kryptonian criminals.
P.D.: On second thought, Supergirl probably thought Rhea back off and run away rather than staying.
I guess Supergirl should mention this, even if it's only a line "I didn't mean killing her. Or poisoning the atmosphere to keep an alien race out of the planet. Oh, Rao, I have to be better than this. I have to be a better hero."
"I understand what you mean. Okay, I understand Supergirl was out of options... but Supergirl resorting to use lethal means? And Superman being okay with it? Should a story where a Kryptonian hero has no option but killing be written?"
Exactly. It isn't the first time either (Rudy Jones/Parasite).This solution felt premature given the age of the show. What I mean by this is, this solution felt more like it would’ve been better suited to the series finale rather than a season finale. Supergirl killed Queen Rhea by triggering the device. She didn’t want to, she really didn’t want to… but as we know, the show’s writers couldn’t care less about having their superhero live up to her principles; so naturally, they wrote Kara into having to do what she ultimately couldn’t avoid. Isn’t it a bit soon in the show’s life to be facing such dire stakes and desperate decision-making? If this episode were the finale to the show’s fifth or maybe sixth season then I could understand it (after five or six seasons I could understand why the writers might finally force Kara into making the huge decision). But, this is the second season, its first season on the CW; (we’re barely out of the gates!) and already Supergirl has killed people and even poisoned Earth’s atmosphere to prevent alien invasion. I never thought the writers would take it this far. What is the point of Supergirl having principles when the writers constantly dismiss them? What does this say about the show going forward? Another big bad for season 3? It doesn’t matter… Supergirl will just kill him/her too. A huge threat in season 3? It doesn’t matter, Supergirl can just kill him/her. Oh my god how are they going to resolve the threat from the latest villain? Oh yes, Supergirl can just kill him/her. I've had enough with the casual killing and it being dismissed like nothing happened.
And also… this is something that has never come up anywhere I've read yet but, could the device used to poison the Daxamites (and contaminate Earth’s atmosphere), be construed as a bio weapon against them? After all the anti-Trump politics this show has thrown at its audience, the writers suddenly write their "superhero" into justifiably using a bio weapon?
"On second thought, Supergirl probably thought Rhea back off and run away rather than staying.
I guess Supergirl should mention this, even if it's only a line "I didn't mean killing her. Or poisoning the atmosphere to keep an alien race out of the planet. Oh, Rao, I have to be better than this. I have to be a better hero.""
Yes, just a line would've cleared it up. But all the show left us with was that Rhea died and Supergirl was responsible. Okay, Supergirl had no choice because the writers are terrible and they forced Kara into triggering the device but… all of the Daxamites we saw being affected managed to transport back to their ships. But Queen Rhea didn’t? She’s their Queen, and she didn’t transport back, or her own people didn’t transport her back? It’s clear to me that she didn’t want to die because she asked Mon-El for help… which is something else that confused me, she died within seconds, what could Mon-El have done exactly to help her? It just didn’t add up. Another point of confusion for me is, all the Daxamites looked severely affected by the weapon before transporting to safety, and Queen Rhea died almost instantly… and yet, for how long did Mon-el survive after Supergirl triggered the device? The whole solution to this finale just left me scratching my head.
I have waited all my life to see Teri Hatcher turn to sand and then melodramatically disintegrate....I can now cross that one off my bucket list....kudos to Supergirl!
Anyone else fascinated by the fact that both antagonists essentially cheated in the apocalyptic final fight....Rhea powered up her fleet to destroy the city to compel Supergirl's surrender, Kara came to the fight with a fail safe weapon to compel the Daxamites to Retreat....neither fighter expected a fair fight from the other, interesting.
I'm thinking part of next season will revolve around Supergirl maybe questioning her role and it's costs to her and those around her, meanwhile Lillian's line will be "Cadmus Saved the World from Supergirl's Boyfriend's Planet..." so to speak. So maybe also her public persona will take a beating as well. I'm sad to see Hatcher go she really knows how to chew the scenery doesn't she? I'd cast her as "Reign" (the rumored big bad for next year) in a heartbeat but I'm sure thats too much of a good thing.
I'm not reading much into Rhea's death, being a "Drama Queen from Outer Space" she chose to swan about rather than escape...and from a storyline POV she had to be taken out permanently somehow.
I enjoyed this season its basically MB's new Highlight Reel, but it comes with the caveat that at some point you have simply accept the reoccurring clunky writing and the show's bad habit of creating multiple unresolved plot threads they are never gonna clean up their act in that area.
As for the Superman Homepage, that has historically always been a font of "Anti-Kara-Sentiment". I can recall posts on their old message boards decrying the introduction of "Superman's Lesser Cousin" on Bruce Timm's Superman cartoon series. I stopped going onto that forum when I found this blog, leave them to their agenda sez I.
Looking forward to next year, if I had to wish for anything I'd like Calista F to somehow get more airtime she is the show's greatest strength next to MB.
That and maybe just maybe Lena doesn't flip over to the dark side, there is something symbolic about Supergirl succeeding with a Luthor in contrast to her cousin's feud with Lex.
JF
Is it confirmed that Mon-El went to the Phantom Zone? Going to the future and the Legion seems a possibility too.
Personally I am completely ok with Supergirl defeating Superman. I consider them equals and the victory could have gone to anyone. She landed a nice uppercut and came out on top. Maybe because she has actually had professional combat training at the DEO, where Clark has more fieldtime but without the wisdom of the ancients to lean on to.
I am attributing Kara pushing through the Kryptonite as employing Clarks secret weapon, caring about the people you love.
I guess the thing that bothered me the most was that they didn't try to send Mon-El to Barry's earth, or getting an oxygen tank til they exhausted more options. Just sending him blindly out into space isn't an idea worthy of the minds available. Having said that, they absolutely nailed the scene where Kara sent him away.
/K
Hey Anj, great episode again, and as JF mentions, I've learned to take this series with it's faults, clunky writing,
plot holes, etc. Taking things from the flip side, if someone told me after DC's monumental(ly idiotic) decision to
kill her in the 80s, they would then bring her back to comics in 2004, then give us THREE live action versions
-- Slater, Vandervoort, and now Melissa Benoist, I'd've had no hesitation calling them crazy.
In any case, I think you nailed the high points of this episode. I'd add the comment about the necklace also riffs
on a major plot point in DC Superhero Girls : Hero Of The Year, and that brought a smile and a bit of tears to my eyes
seeing that scene.
I'd also praise the chance we were given again to see the Supercousins interacting with one another 1on1 again...
On the small screen... In Season 2! JUST BEAUTIFUL! And somewhat washes away the cliche trope of the opening
Supercousins fight. Hope TPTB continue to find time to bring Tyler H back.
Plotwise, I also noted how this basically riffed the Season 1 finale -- when Lillian brought out "the box," in my
mind's eye I could see MaxwellLord and his "time to put on the Big Girl cape" scene; seeing Kara direct Lena to
prepare it, but still be confident in her victory I don't see as coldblooded killing, just following the old Scout
motto of "Be Prepared." Same as well with Kara telling Alex to ease off on caring for her and look towards her own
needs -- the "Marry Me!" line, yeah... hope Maggie is brought back next season as well!
> Or we all wanted her to know?
Just hearing Cat admit it verbally... that's what sealed the deal for me!
@aa3on
Regarding the "out of options," I think with the plotting TPTB had basically shown that Rhea was irredemable, and
that she wouldn't just tuck tail and run, even with the atmosphere poisoned like that. Last episode, Kara wanted
more time before the positron cannon was fired to try and reason with Rhea, which she firmly slapped that hand away.
The whole "pointing guns at noncombatants to force a fight" by Rhea basically sealed the deal that the Big Bad had
to die, no matter what.
I'd also like to think that was part of the pain Kara was feeling at the end, not just the loss of Mon-El, but that
in her complete victory over the Daxamite fleet, it was still an empty / Pyrrhic victory.
My Humble Opinion, anyways.
Regards
Previous Anon again,
I like JF's idea, and could see S3 opening with Supergirl's mental state like Superman after killing the 3 Kryptonian renegades, then exiling himself to space.
I think it could be an interesting and logical progression.
Regarding 1st Anon about Lauren Faust, if I'm reading the news right, Lauren is helming a DC Superhero Girls TV Series , which in of itself isn't
bad news? We can only see how things go between now and its planned 2018 air date.

Well, there might be a wicked twist to this idea, since Kara literally killed Mon-El's mother right in front of him, and nearly poisoned him inadvertently in the process. Seems to me that the show is setting in place some long-term complications...some of which may turn into survivor's guilt if Mon-El returns as a changed man, who Kara might not find so likable anymore.

I wish I could disagree, but... that site is a haven for Post-Crisis fanboys who despise the Pre-Crisis continuity and feel no affection for the Silver Age additions to the mythos. Back when Superman 200 made Birthright Superman's canonical origin, a reviewer ranted and raved. When the "War of Supermen" storyline was over, several reviewers hoped that DC would stop shoving the Silver Age down their throats, and one of them even called Supergirl an annoying brat...
And then you have the people who review the Supergirl books. They always seem to look for excuses to grade Kara's adventures low. The guy who reviewed the fifth soloo book? Even after Gates took over, he thought the book never got any direction. He graded "Bizarro-Girl" 3/5 and graded "Day of Dollmaker" 5/5... because it referenced a 90's Superman story!
Several months ago, the site was frequented by a John Byrne's fanboy who couldn't shut up about Superman missing his red trunks and thought no one "got" Superman but his creators and Byrne. Of course, he hated everything related to Krypton and Superman's extended family. He thought the Supergirl show should have taken a page from Bruce Timm's book because her Supergirl "was the only version made sense and wasn't a Superman's carbon copy". An ironical statement to those who know Timm's opinions regarding Supergirl. Intriguingly, that fellow didn't mind New Superman because he wasn't Kryptonian (never mind Kenan made Clark less unique because his existence means any human can gain Superman's powers). I also recall that fellow complaining that Supergirl being Superman's cousin was stupid because "it'd be like Batgirl was Batman's cousin". I think someone should tell him about Batwoman.
Anyway, if you're going to complain about Superman being downgraded in order to make other characters look good, you should hate John Byrne's Superman rather praising it. Just saying. I've seen a Legion fan stating that Byrne turned "the first and most powerful super-hero" into another X-Man.
In contrast with "Superman Homepage", "Superman Through Ages" is a site maintained by Pre-Crisis Superman fanboys and they mostly respect Supergirl (one of them utterly loathes Lois, though). A pity the message board is dead.
"Personally I am completely ok with Supergirl defeating Superman. I consider them equals and the victory could have gone to anyone. She landed a nice uppercut and came out on top. Maybe because she has actually had professional combat training at the DEO, where Clark has more fieldtime but without the wisdom of the ancients to lean on to."
Exactly. It isn't like Supergirl curbstomped and treated her cousin contemptuosly. That's what Miller's Dark Knight does.
"Regarding 1st Anon about Lauren Faust, if I'm reading the news right, Lauren is helming a DC Superhero Girls TV Series , which in of itself isn't bad news? We can only see how things go between now and its planned 2018 air date."

I love Kara, Babs and Diana are given the spotlight. I'm surprised that Jessica Cruz is mentioned. Will Carol Ferris will make an appearance and will be portrayed as a spoiled princess or as the hard-working woman who proved her father he didn't need a male heir because she was able to run his company?
Thanks for all the excellent comment and discussion!
I feel this was a great episode with the minor quibbles people are bringing up.
I think Supergirl didn't kill Rhea. This weapon didn't instantaneously kill the Daxamites. Most left. She stayed. Her choice.
I do think that bith sides having a failsafe/illegal aspect to the Dakar Ur was funny. And prudent.
We don't know where Mon went, by as a Legion nut, I want it to be the Zone.
And I guess we'll see the Legion next year. Maybe Mon comes back in time but after having l Bed years with the Legion, having moved past Kara? Hmm ...
As for Kara, I hope we see her start out low frommthis and end up greater.
Thanks for discussion!
> some of which may turn into survivor's guilt if Mon-El returns as a changed man, who Kara might not find so likable anymore.
While the KaraxMon-El shippers no doubt would scream about this from the high heavens, so long as they can find interesting stories
to tell with it, I'm all for it.

Thanks for sharing that link. Amusing they could only link to the old DCSHG S2 preview trailer, but still in the grand scheme
of DCSHG, so far I see this as good news all around!

+9000 on that Anj! Fingers crossed and counting down to Season 3 Official Air Date announcement!

“I think with the plotting TPTB had basically shown that Rhea was irredemable, and that she wouldn't just tuck tail and run, even with the atmosphere poisoned like that. Last episode, Kara wanted more time before the positron cannon was fired to try and reason with Rhea, which she firmly slapped that hand away. The whole "pointing guns at noncombatants to force a fight" by Rhea basically sealed the deal that the Big Bad had to die, no matter what!”
Yes I agree with you. Rhea was irredeemable and had to go, I too thought that she would always find a way to come back. So I agree she had to go, permanently.
But after triggering the device, Kara could’ve simply said, “leave” to Rhea, but obviously Rhea stayed... This would’ve absolved Kara. Or perhaps even a simple shrug from Rhea, indicating it’s her choice to stay and die; this too would’ve absolved Kara. But the writers didn’t do that (or anything even similar). Instead Rhea asks Mon-El to help her; she clearly didn't want to die. Again, this is only the show’s second season, (the first season on the CW) and already (so soon into the show’s young existence) Kara is forced into taking life… (makes a change from the casual killing she's done during the season) I understand that she had no choice but to trigger the device, I get that; but the writers had plenty of options so as not to make Rhea’s death Kara’s fault, and they didn’t use any of those options. Instead, they wrote their superhero into a situation without any care about adhering to her non-lethal traits or principles. This isn’t super; it’s average. (Just my opinion, and I respect and want to read others' opinions so that I may try to better understand.)
“I think Supergirl didn't kill Rhea. This weapon didn't instantaneously kill the Daxamites. Most left. She stayed. Her choice.”
I do agree, Anj. At least I really want to agree because Rhea didn’t transport with the rest of the Daxamites to safety. But then why did she ask Mon-El to help her if she ‘chose’ to remain behind and die? Her death was so darn quick it’s hard not to believe Supergirl killed her when she triggered the device. In this one scene, during this tiny amount of airtime, the writers were careless with Supergirl. Again.
“Well, there might be a wicked twist to this idea, since Kara literally killed Mon-El's mother right in front of him, and nearly poisoned him inadvertently in the process.”
I agree, KET.
As always, thanks for the platform, Anj. I know you and other people must get pretty darn sick of me on here, and I apologise for it. But, hey, I love Supergirl, much more than I like Superman, but not quite as much as I love Batman. I'm just a guy with a passion for superheroes that are non-lethal and are supposed to inspire people. Superman said: "we need to shine brighter." But here (and sprinkled throughout the season) Supergirl's adding to the body count. Not cool (or in character).
"I think Supergirl didn't kill Rhea. This weapon didn't instantaneously kill the Daxamites. Most left. She stayed. Her choice."
Mon-El might not see it that way, if and when he comes back....especially since he couldn't work up the nerve to shoot Rhea to help save his friends two episodes before. That scene is what leads me to believe that perspective in hindsight might alter remembrance of the moment...in a sort of reverse 'rose-colored glasses', perhaps.
Also, if the show's LSH teases suddenly become a reality, there'll likely be potential competition for Kara's affections if they cast for Querl Dox. :)
KET
"Now if you have an issue with Supergirl being stronger (not that you should), you can use a number of explanations."
Well, for this show, the easiest way to explain it is that Kara has had extensive DEO combat training to her credit, and Clark simply doesn't. Most of the other critical analysis of this sequence usually draws from outside sources not directly pertaining to the series.
KET
Thats another item off my bucket list, Kara kayoed Kal El inna fair fight wham!!! On the other hand, Supergirl had the "motivational edge" in that fight and overt mind control is never an advantage in a throw-down...
JF
Now, THIS is more like it! Less political pontification, and more punching makes for a MUCH better “Supergirl.” The writers focused more on super-powered action and character development, and as a result, the improvement in the season finale was obvious! That's what's known as addition by subtraction. Still, it wasn't perfect by any stretch of the imagination. It was pretty hard to swallow some of the more contrived plot devices the writers came up with, many of which have already been pointed out. For instance...
SILVER Kryptonite??
Well, now they're just making stuff up. And even if it did have the effect of putting Superman into a berserker rage, how did Rhea KNOW what he was seeing? How could she control his hallucination so that Kal-El would see Kara as Zod, and not HER? And why didn't Rhea simply expose Supergirl to the Silver K too? While I'm on the subject...
Kryptonite BLOOD??? Oh, puh-LEASE! What is Rhea doing, EATING the stuff? Does she crap kryptonite too? Kara better not follow her into the ladies room.
The much-hyped “Dakkam Ur” ritual challenge between Supergirl and Rhea fizzled out, and everybody went back to blasting each other as usual. What was the point of the challenge, if neither side was bound by their so-called “code of honor?” Even after they were driven off the planet by the lead contamination, what was there to stop the Daxamites from destroying every city on Earth from space, before they left, especially since their Queen was dead? Why didn't Mon-El claim the throne, instead of leaving an armada of angry, powerful Daxamites without leadership?
I also SERIOUSLY doubt that, if Supergirl had lost to Rhea, the armies of every country in the world would've simply surrendered, just because “the Champion of Earth” promised they would, ESPECIALLY when it became common knowledge that the Daxamite invaders can be killed with a single, well placed lead bullet, just like everybody else. We've got PLENTY of bullets, and some pretty damn BIG ones, too! Why we didn't see ordinary citizens “resisting” by exercising their Second Amendment Rights, and blowing some Daxamites all to hell, I'll NEVER know.
Filling the Daxamites full of hot lead would've been preferable to contaminating Earth's entire atmosphere. I don't care HOW “harmless” they said it was to humans, that CAN'T be good, either for the environment, OR for people. And how silly was the idea that a table top Tinkertoy could alter the whole planet's atmosphere in a matter of seconds? And now that she knows it works, what's to stop Lillian from using Lex's box to put kryptonite into the air as well, to drive all Kryptonians off-world?
I say “all” instead of “both” because judging from the preview for next season, Kara will be facing yet ANOTHER unlikely survivor from her doomed homeworld. So much for Kara calling herself “the Last Daughter of Krypton.” I don't like it. Kryptonians should be one of the rarest, and most powerful species in the universe. Having too many of them running around diminishes the uniqueness of both Kara and Kal-El.
What ALSO diminishes Supergirl is that once again, someone other than her “saved the day," namely Lillian, with an assist from Lena, who did the honors, herself just a couple of weeks ago. Not only that, by pressing the button on that remote, Supergirl showed that she was willing to kill HUNDREDS of not-so-innocent Daxamites, as well as one who WAS innocent. It would've been FAR more dramatic if Mon-El had taken the remote, AND the burden of responsibility for that act away from Kara, pushing the button himself, while sealing his own fate as well as the fates of mother, and his people. Such a selfless act would've given Anj the kind of “heroic sacrifice” he wanted to see from Mon-El. I guess we'll have to wait and see if Mon-El ever fulfills his heroic potential someday “in the future.”
Personally, I thought that the battle between the Super Cousins should've been at the end of the show, and not the beginning, as that was the most exciting, and dramatic of all the fight scenes in a show filled with them, but that's a relatively small quibble.
Even Superman questioned whether or not the “James” Cat told him about, who was going around town dressed like Darth Vader, beating up crooks was his pal, “Jimmy.” I'm with HIM! That's NOT the Jimmy Olsen I know.
Cat may not have seen “Star Wars,” but other than being unfamiliar with her real-life husband's biggest movie, she knows everything else! I don't recall exactly what Kara told Cat to explain how she knew that “other” star reporter from the Daily Planet, but I'm pretty sure she didn't try to pass Clark off as her cousin. Still, seeing them together when Cat knows Superman is ALSO in town visiting Supergirl isn't the best way to preserve one's secret identity. If Cat could easily recognize James as the Guardian simply because she could see his eyes, it only makes sense that a pair of glasses on “Kirra” and Clark wouldn't fool her either, and if she knows Kara is Supergirl, than she must know Clark is Superman, too. That would explain why she gets all “girly” whenever Clark is around, just like Finn always turns to fanboy jelly around Superman. It's cute that they both have a crush on the same person.
Miss Martian's brief cameo appearance, along with her White Martian buddies, should've been saved for an entire episode next season. It contributed nothing to this season finale. Alex's post-traumatic marriage proposal to Maggie was equally superfluous. Mark my words, nothing good will ever come from that.
"It would've been FAR more dramatic if Mon-El had taken the remote, AND the burden of responsibility for that act away from Kara, pushing the button himself, while sealing his own fate as well as the fates of mother, and his people."
I agree with this 200% Scrimmage. Finally, someone understands.
"It would've been FAR more dramatic if Mon-El had taken the remote, AND the burden of responsibility for that act away from Kara, pushing the button himself, while sealing his own fate as well as the fates of mother, and his people."
Supergirl's Show, Supergirl's Decision. Besides by now it has to be blatantly obvious that Mon El could screw up a two car funeral sans Kara's advise and counsel.

People are voting a lot in awful for this episode on spoiler tv, I don´t know if it's because of the temporary exit of Mon-El and the ''shippers'' are angry or if it's because of the fight between Supergirl and Superman
Thanks for the continued discussion!
As I think about this episode more, it seems to be growing. This was very good.
One thing that gets me as that this ends with sadness but a feeling of momentum, of moving forward. That differs from the Falsh, which ended so miserably that it made Supergirl shine brighter.
"People are voting a lot in awful for this episode on spoiler tv, I don´t know if it's because of the temporary exit of Mon-El and the ''shippers'' are angry or if it's because of the fight between Supergirl and Superman"
Who knows why loud haters feel the need to spread their hatred everywhere? Some people hate Mon-El and/or Karamel. Some people hate Mon-El is gone. Some people hate Maggie will make less appearances in the next season and resort to hate the show, even though it doesn't make sense. Some people hate Supergirl beat Superman.
I hope Superman fans don't start hating Supergirl now only because she defeated her cousin. But fanboys tend to be irrational.
"One thing that gets me as that this ends with sadness but a feeling of momentum, of moving forward."
Yes, she's hurt and sad but still heading off to help.
''I hope Superman fans don't start hating Supergirl now only because she defeated her cousin. But fanboys tend to be irrational''
True, the comments I see most lately are people saying that Superman should have cleaned the floor with her and they will not follow the show any more, these are the lightest ones.
I saw all the commotion about Maggie show up in less episodes and I honestly don´t care, I could not connect with her or Mon-El this season.
I worry if Supergirl will survive the next season, since the CW debut, the demo of the show has been falling more and more and recovering the public is a difficult thing, look at arrow had an incredible season and even managing to raise the audience a little but it was not as it was before
My wish is that they make a more consistent season and leave the romance at a minimum so that people do not get tired of them and abandon the show or when eventually romance X or Y ends the show does not suffer much impact.
I apologize for my bad english, English is not my native language but I love this blog, it's good to see people who like Supergirl as much as I do.
"True, the comments I see most lately are people saying that Superman should have cleaned the floor with her and they will not follow the show any more, these are the lightest ones."
Those people are fooling themselves. They're fanboys sore because their favorite character lost a fight, period. Supergirl and has been a match for Superman since, you know, 1959.
I've been a Superman fan for over three decades and I have no issue with that fight.
Maybe some Superman fans feel like Superman has become DC Universe's punching bag to show off how badass is a character? If so, I kind of understand their outrage... but it's still unwarranted.
"I saw all the commotion about Maggie show up in less episodes and I honestly don´t care, I could not connect with her or Mon-El this season."
I agree. I didn't care either for this season's romance subplots. I find interesting that the same people who complain about Mon-El sidelining Supergirl want more Sanvers screentime to the detriment of Kara.
It reminds me of the Smallville's shipping wars and the dumb, dumb, dumb Chlois "theory".
"I worry if Supergirl will survive the next season, since the CW debut, the demo of the show has been falling more and more and recovering the public is a difficult thing, look at arrow had an incredible season and even managing to raise the audience a little but it was not as it was before"
According this article, the ratings of the second season are fine:
http://supergirl.ausxip.com/2017/05/article-supergirl-season-2-ratings-breakdown-by-christa-morris/
So, yes. Don't lurk in CBR or Twitter. Haters love spewing poison. Or screaming "Supergirl is the worst show ever". How much TV has watched that person if he truly believes that, I wonder.
Plus, I consider funny to hear some Smallville fans put down Supergirl in order to make Smallville look better. After the first seasons, Smallville ratings went down and fans complained about the show getting stale and boring. And now those same fans claim it's a masterpiece? Please.
"My wish is that they make a more consistent season and leave the romance at a minimum so that people do not get tired of them and abandon the show or when eventually romance X or Y ends the show does not suffer much impact."
I also wish a more consistent plot, less bad romance and intrusive politics, a bigger focus on Supergirl and her interpersonal relationships, and a bigger use of her own Rogue's Gallery and story arcs. It pleases me that fans are speculating Reign is the passenger of the third pod. They're noticing Supergirl has her own villains!
My other wish? I want "Supergirl" to be successful enough to prevent another "Crisis on Infinite Earths #7" event from happening ever again.
Kara's books may sell whatever, but as long as Supergirl's merchanside and licensing is profitable, DC won't consider her to be expendable.
"I apologize for my bad english, English is not my native language"
Don't worry. English isn't my native language either.
"but I love this blog, it's good to see people who like Supergirl as much as I do."
Agreed!
“I worry if Supergirl will survive the next season, since the CW debut, the demo of the show has been falling more and more and recovering the public is a difficult thing, look at arrow had an incredible season and even managing to raise the audience a little but it was not as it was before.”
For all the flaws that this show has, I do hope it has a long life. I know I have my problems with it, but at the end of the day, Melissa Benoist does an amazing job as Supergirl; I can’t imagine anyone else in the role. The show had a great start on CBS (enough to influence the comics), so why did the CW mess with a good thing? It’s the CW’s to screw up. I get the sense that season 3 will either make or break this show. I think to give the show its best chances next season, the writers need to iron out the problems (and lay off the politics) and concentrate their efforts more on having Kara being able to live up to her moral standards. I only hope that the (potential?) decline of this show doesn’t affect the Supergirl comics. I often think if I hadn’t read any Supergirl comics before watching this show, would I want to read Supergirl comics after watching it? When it was on the CBS, yes definitely. But after watching it on the CW? Hell no (because of her not being able to live up to her principles, I wouldn't be interested in reading her in the comics). But this is purely my personal opinion of course.
I hope the show succeeds. Supergirl deserves mainstream attention.
"I apologize for my bad english, English is not my native language"
No need at all to apologise, Thayse, your English is great! English is my native language and I’m still crap at it. :)
Thanks for the comments everyone! And welcome Thayse, your language was fine!
I do wonder if the creators will double down on politics or ease up a bit.
And I'd like to think that all next season there is no love interest for Kara (outside of a return appearance of Mxyzptlk). But. Season of pure adventuring with strong supporting cast arcs would be welcomed.,
Terrific review, Anj, I loved this episode bar the teaser for, likely, Domsday. What a boring villain. Don't the CW folk know I'm itching to see Darkstar, Decay, The Gang and Nasty. Speaking of the Seventies siren, does Katie McGrath not have the perfect look for Nastalthia? Maybe Lena's similar-looking niece could show up next year ... just so long as Lena doesn't go bad, it really wouldn't be convincing considering how much goodness we've seen in her, heck, she glows with benevolence. Sure, have a wee chat with Kara about keeping secrets, but they're too good as pals to throw away.
English is my first language, North American English less so - what was Cat's reference to batons? Does she have a patisserie on the side? And what did you mean in mentioning 'graphite' in that context, Anj?
Speaking of which, I don't want Supergirl to kill but I believe she thought the dust would have all Daxamites fleeing the planet – ultimately I don't care that Rhea is dead, she is scum and would never stop trying to kill everything Kara loves. Consider it suicide by super-cop. And Aa3on, Rhea can't have known how much time she had, or even that the dust would kill her. Yes, she appealed to Mon El, and the second he bent down over her she'd likely kill him they way she murdered his father, the woman is a mad dog.
I don't know why Mon El and Kara were so broken up about breaking up - they can surely have space dates while Lena and Winn invent a lead serum? Don't bother asking Clark...
I really want to see Kara visit Lois and Clark in Metropolis. Tyler H remains wonderful. And I really wish Eliza had shown up for even a cameo.
Why do they have that duel in the middle of the city? I thought Kara wanted to protest people.
I've asked this previously, but can we not spend so much time worrying about what other websites think? It's not like the opinions over there have any more legitimacy or sway than ours.
I've also asked previously, but let's try again - any chance of all you Anonymous commentators following the examples of JF and adding some identifier other than Anonymous? It doesn't have to be your real name or initials, and it would really help the back and forth discussion. I love all the opinions but it does get needlessly confusing sometimes.
And a welcome from me also, Thayse. Your English is pretty darn decent.
Glad you caught up Mart.
I think Cat was saying Vuitton (so), an expensive show.
Rhea turned to lead, so I said graphite (instead of graphic) since that replaced lead in pencils.
The rumor is the Kryptonian is Reign from the new 52, not Doomsday thankfully.
And yes, McGrath would be a great Nasty. She can slay with a raised eyebrow.
''Maybe some Superman fans feel like Superman has become DC Universe's punching bag to show off how badass is a character? If so, I kind of understand their outrage... but it's still unwarranted''
It must be difficult to see his favorite character being defeated, especially with the
frequency that the superman is lately,he sometimes only appears to take a punch because the writer wants to shows '' my character is amazing he hit the Superman '', the best thing that should have happened was having avoided this fight because at least would avoid all this hatred, there were other means of Kara being the Earth's champion but I agree with you about not having justification for either hate on the show or of Kara.
''I agree.I didn't care either for this season's romance subplots. I find interesting that the same people who complain about Mon-El sidelining Supergirl want more Sanvers screentime to the detriment of Kara''
I'm going to have to do the Devil's Advocate here,I understand why some people do not like Mon-El,I did not like him in most of the episodes, yes he had a character developmentthroughout the season but at least for me the damage was already done, the character is hated by many people and not only for those who like Sanvers or Supercop, they should have developed the character first and then have him enter into a relationship with Kara, the same thing applies to Sanvers, during almost all season Maggie was only Alex's girlfriend, it would have been better to develop Maggie and only after starting a relationship but I agree with you about people asking for more Sanvers time and wanting less Mon-El on the screen are hypocrites.
''According this article, the ratings of the second season are fine:
http://supergirl.ausxip.com/2017/05/article-supergirl-season-2-ratings-breakdown-by-christa-morris/''
Thank you so much for introducing me this article,I was really worried.the only thing that I was seeing was the demo of the show falling and the people voting more and more in awful in the polls, especially in the last episode, since yesterday it seems that much haters have joined to do this on spoiler tv.
I avoid reading comments as much as possible on the internet,I don´t know why I was looking for comments about this last chapter in places like youtube but this is a mistake that I will not make again, I didn´t know that some Smallville fans did this kind of thing I never understood this competition between TV shows even more than Smallville already finished.
"I also wish a more consistent plot, less bad romance and intrusive politics, a bigger focus on Supergirl and her interpersonal relationships, and a bigger use of her own Rogue's Gallery and story arcs. It pleases me that fans are speculating Reign is the passenger of the third pod. They're noticing Supergirl has her own villains!''
This was one of the things that bothered me this second season, first season the show was totally focused on Kara and her relationship with friends and family, I really felt that Winn, James and Alex really were a family, the interaction between them was great, this second season seemed to me to be around other characters and almost never about Kara herself and the dynamics among the Super friends was not good I really hope this changes in the next season.
Yes,it was great to see the speculating about Reign, the first time she appeared in the comics I was really glad she had an enemy that did not revolve around the superman, they could make Kara get a boyfriend (since it's required have romance in CW) and make he appear every few chapters just to know that he exists without disrupt the plot of the series.
I worry about it,who ensures that they will not disappear with Kara at the next reboot? so I have the same desire as you, I would also like her to have a place among a team just like Superboy has with the Teen Titans.
''For all the flaws that this show has, I do hope it has a long life. I know I have my problems with it, but at the end of the day, Melissa Benoist does an amazing job as Supergirl;''
I agree that Melissa is a great supergirl, I really hope the show learned from her mistakes, this season had everything to be amazing but in the end this did not happen, probably a cancellation of the show would affect the comics too.
I have mixed feelings about Kara pushing the button and risking killing a whole alien race, despite understanding the reason and the need for it,this decision should be explored next season, Kara was disgusted of her father for making the Medusa virus and press the button should be one of the hardest things she's ever done, the show should have done of another way? Sure, but now it's done,I like to think that all the sadness at the end of the season is largely because of the guilt that she is feeling for poisoned the Daxamites and causing Rhea's death.
'I hope the show succeeds. Supergirl deserves mainstream attention.''
I also hope the show will succeed and last a lot despite the problems, supergirl is one of my favorite heroes and while the show lasts, less chance has DC to get rid of her.
