Sneak Peek At World's Finest #3

I thought it was a little bit serendipitous that the day after I talk about how much I am looking forward to World's Finest #3, that Jamal Igle posted a splash page from the issue on his blog.

Here is the link:
http://jamaligle.blogspot.com/2009/12/supergirl-and-batgirl-together-again_02.html

What a great tease for the issue. The two heroes leaping from on high, flying towards the reader. I also like the composition with Supergirl approaching headfirst as she flies down and Batgirl coming in feet first as she swings from her line.

I also noticed that the biker shorts now sport gold trim. Nice touch.

I can't wait to see the relationship between Supergirl and this Batgirl. I am sure that when we approach the release date for this issue that I will review some Silver Age team up between those incarnations of the characters. But I think Kara and Steph could and should be good friends.

Here is the official solicit from http://www.dccomics.com/. The issue is on sale on December 23rd.

Worlds' Finest #3

Written by Sterling Gates; Art by Jamal Igle; Covers by Phil Noto

The Toyman has crafted the ultimate killing machine to protect himself from the Kryptonian menace, and Oracle has sent Supergirl and Batgirl to stop it. But when Supergirl faces off against the Kryptonite Man while the new Batgirl takes on Catwoman, they both find themselves in over their heads. This looks like a job for…

This looks like it is going to be good!

Steph and Kara ought to be best galpals from the git-go. BG &SG were a vastly under-rated team back in the day, I look to the new configuration to forfill some of that potential.
And if Oracle was now to be found in Kara's corner as well so much the better. A certain amount of "Girl Power" could be realized here, for that fact does Steph have a TEAM affiliation or is she teamless a'la Supergirl? More potential there sez I.

I believe Jamal has outdone himself again. If that piece doesn't say "wall poster" I don't know what does.

Coincidentally I watched the DCAU episode "Girls Night Out" last night for this first time in over 10 years, and I forget how great it was. I made me look forward to World's Finest #3 even more.

Me thinks the same way. Another Birds of Prey launch prehaps? We know that Babs and Kara got along well in last year's Christmas special, so why not?

Same here. Here's to hoping they all get along and don't have an argument over who's better: the 'S' Crew* or the Bat-Crew.

* I remember Conner in the PD Supergirl series say something about the "S crew" in MHR, so I decided to put it up there.

I miss Barbara as Batgirl :(

I really love that image! It's definitely worthy of being made into a poster. You know I really miss Barbara as Batgirl, and have always wanted that Batgirl/Supergirl friendship from the Silver Age revived in some way. I really think establishing a friendship between Stephanie and Kara would be very reminiscent of the friendship and team-ups between the Silver Age Batgirl and Supergirl. John is right, Stephanie and Kara seem to me like they should really hit it off and be best gal-pals from the get-go, as opposed to the Cassandra Cain Batgirl and Kara. I would really like this to be the beginning with Stephanie and Kara of the same kind of friendship and team-ups that we had of the original Barbara and Kara. Here's hoping this turns out to be the case!

I too miss Babs as Batgirl, yet if DC had gone through with reverting her to being Batgirl again then it wouldn't feel right that Babs is Batgirl while Kate is apparently Batwoman for rightfully it should be Babs who's Batwoman (being in the hero bus longer then Kate come current continuity) and Kate as Batgirl.

Anywho, I just love Jamal's splash page piece here (except for the biker shorts now sporting gold trim for it just looks off design wise to me) and can't wait to get my copy of this 3rd issue and to see just how Kara and Steph will play off one another under Sterling's pen! :D

I agree that the 2 should be friends right away. And I also hope that Oracle has some role in their friendship as well.

Not a bad idea. Maybe not a monthly but a miniseries of some sort would be great ... the 'All New BoP' as it were.

It's funny because they only teamed up a handful of times in the Silver Age but their scenes in Crisis on Infinite Earths really showcased a deeper friendship.

I think we saw that this sort of teamup could work in the Superman/Batman issue that teamed Kara with Tim. With his new role as Red Robin, the Steph/Kara friendship seems like an easier fit.

I think Barbara is just a better character as Oracle so I would hate to see her revert. I don't mind reading 'flashback' adventures (like the Bat/Cat story in Batman Confidential) but I think she should stay Oracle.

Yeah I should be a strong "Babs is BG" type fundamentalist, but it is hard to argue against the notion that her Oracle persona is a stronger character overall.

Supergirl and Batgirl should get along famously because it casts a nice contrasting light on the oftimes uneasy alliance between Clark and Bruce.
And besides we've already seen how easily Supergirl can team up with Robin the Boy Wonder in "Superman-Batman"...why shouldn't she make a good team-mate for Steph?

That Batgirl costume is completely hideous.

How long before she gets killed off again? 12 issue? 18?

Those undershorts are still so damn hideous. Seriously, they need to be gone or they need to switch to the movie version of the costume. It is idiotic that in a medium of muscle men in their nderwear and huge breasted women in swimsuits that Supergirl can't even have the sex appeal of a figure skater. I'm sure the hypocrites will complain about this post and then oggle shirtless teen vampires.

If you wanna campaign against the shorts, fine, Vaya Con Dios, but take it over onto the DC Boards willya? That seems to be the prime topic thereon, you will be in good company I assure you.

Meanwhile...we need to get up a petition to get either the Brainiac mini or the "Supergirl from Krypton" storylines adapted as a straight to DVD animated film.
THEN we need to get Supergirl onto a nice super team...
Oh and she needs to punch Queen Hypolyta in the nose, payback for manipulating the Maid of Might during "Amazon Attacks".
:D

I think we have beaten this topic into the ground. I can't argue against your feelings; I can only say I don't agree. I like the shorts in conjunction with this costume.

But I do agree with you in that I would like to move back towards a more Matrix-y or movie style costume.

I agree with you and John,Anj.
She needs to get rid of those uner-shorts.

I miss the Matrix costume, dammit.

hopefully in issue 50, we'll get a fangirlish Lida Lee with the movie costume, or something.

Btw, where is Linda? I haven't seen her snce RIH. Is she in limbo again?
