Final Crisis #5 Out Next Week!

We have all been waiting for the Supergirl/Mary Marvel fight in Final Crisis. It looks like it will final happen next week.

On the DC homepage, the banner cover for Final Crisis #5 was unveiled showing the above image. It appears that this cover was drawn by Carlos Pacheco. And if this image is true, it does not look like it will be a walk in the park for Kara.

It saddens me that purely 'good' characters like Mary Marvel all have to become tainted, brought low, or made 'grim and gritty'. Still, I have to admit, I have been looking forward to Mary being taught a lesson since her unfortunate 'darkening' in Countdown.

The JG Jones hero cover has also been on the web for a while. Here we see a powerful and rather stern Diana in battle mode, wielding sword and shield.

I think Jones' cover is a huge improvement over this more cheesecake treatment which was originally shown to be the cover. Do we really need a butt shot of Diana here, tousled hair cascading over her eyes, a sultry look on her face? I say we don't need it. These are the 'hero' covers. The Batman and Superman covers for issues six and seven are standard action shots and Diana deserves no less.

It will have been 6 weeks since Final Crisis #4 when this issue is released. I can only hope the rest of the series stays on a near monthly schedule.

The Diana cover with the sword looks sooo weird. The anatomy is kinda off: The head and the right hand look too big for the rest of the body. And her face looks like a man.

mmm, looking forward to this. , too, have been disappointed in mary marvel's turn to the dark side, but it'll be interesting to see supergirl get into a tussle with her. i've been surprised by the high level of power the writers have given mary (she can take on wonder woman), so it shouldn't be an easy challenge...

Maybe Kara can KNOCK some sense back into the World's Mighthiest Girl's head.
:D
Just hope she wins this one....I need it bad.

I honestly think that the new, re-done cover is a total disaster.

The original was hot. There's nothing wrong with that, either. Diana is the world's most beautiful woman. And it fit with the others in the series.

The new one ... it just looks wrong.

On closer review the head does seem way too big. Maybe Jones was going for a 3D effect?

I agree that Diana should be beautiful, something the new cover does not convey.

I just thought the pose for the cover was a bit too passive for me.

Thanks for the posts.

It is interesting how tough Mary is now. I believe her powers are gifts from Darkseid rather than the old gods, maybe showing that Darkseid holds more influence and power in this world now.

I get the passive thing, I do.

But there's something about Diana looking beautiful, sultry, and that being somehow ENOUGH. I don't know. Maybe it's just me.

As to FC #5, I am fully expecting Kara to kick Mary's rear into another dimension (possibly literally!) and it should be fun.

I think Grant is having a lot of fun with this, and I know I am.

I have to say I didn't care for the "My best side? You're looking at it, honey!" cover that was originally shown. The new one, I like even less. It reminds me of Mr. A drawn by Steve Ditko

I personally love the "Wonder Woman with sword and shield" cover but think that her head needs to be shrinked down just a tad wee bit in order to be in proper proportion to that of the rest of her body pictured. Heh. :D
