Supergirl Best Of 2025 Part Two: Top Ten Comic Moments #10 - #6

Welcome to part two of my three part review of Supergirl in the year 2025. Yesterday I posted Part One , a review of the Supergirl cameo in James Gunn's Superman movie, my own convention experience, and some comic moment Honorable mentions.

This is my seventeenth end of year review on the site, a number that staggers even me. Over the course of that time, some years have been pretty lean. In contrast, the last couple of years have been solid ones for the character. 2025 saw Supergirl finally back in her own title, continuing to play a role in the more major storylines in the Superman books, and even a decent presence in other books. Whether it was Mark Waid's JLU, or the insanity of Justice League Vs Godzilla Vs Kong, or even the Kal-El-Fornia Love book, Kara was all over the place and always treated with respect. That meant there were a lot of great moments for me to choose from making this year a tough one to pick a top ten,

Making that even harder was the profound respect and sheer amount of Kara-history that Sophie Campbell has injected into the book. From Lar-On and The Yellow Ring of Nor-Kann, to Satan Girl, to a comb that changes hair color, to Lesla Lar and Nightflame, to Midvale to cover and panel homages, there has been a ton of Supergirl history from multiple realities and continuities in the book. And each of those could be a top ten moment. I feel like for the first time in a long time, we have a creator who loves and understands the character. And that love and understanding shows in the book.

So settle in ... here comes the Top Ten Supergirl Comic Moments of 2025.

Bonus Honorable Mention- "MVP! MVP ! MVP!" - Justice League United #5

Justice League United must be a dream for writer Mark Waid as basically every super-hero is on the team. In JLU #5, a bevy of Earth Ambassadors and super-heroes are sent into another dimension that in my mind has to be the Madness Zone from Shade, the Changing Man.

With carnage awaiting, Supergirl figures out how to rescue everyone. Using a Star Sapphire globe and Diana's lasso, Kara takes everyone from the Madness Zone through the Phantom Zone and back to reality. It is a great moment captured perfectly by artist Dan Mora. That first panel, a determined Kara looking up, clutching the lasso. The bottom panel shows her dragging everyone, another fierce look on her face as she heads from one insane realm to the next.

When back on Earth, the Flash says she is the MVP of the mission. That was pretty cool.

Waid loves Supergirl and it shows.

#10 - 'Seventies Icon' - Supergirl #3:

I talked about how in this first year of the Supergirl title, Sophie Campbell infused elements of Supergirl's history. It really has been a love letter of the character, sprinkling in plot elements and characters from the pre-Crisis Supergirl to the recent past.

And while Satan Girl and Midvale are obvious callbacks.

But some have been more subtle, like this panel at the beginning of Supergirl #3. That costume, that pose, that smile ... we have seen it before.

It is an homage to the opening splash page of 1972's Supergirl #1, the first self-titled solo book for Kara. This pose has been an iconic shot for the character in the 70s. Having Kara don the hot pants 70s costume for this homage was brilliant.

I'm really thrilled how much of the character's long and storied history has been put int the book! Truly incredible.

#9 - "I Like Brainy Guys" - I Saw Ma Hunkel Kissing Santa Claus

The most recent entry came from DC's Christmas special of all places in 'Holiday Woes' by Ash Padilla and Anthony Marques.

In a sweet story, Supergirl seems completely overwhelmed in her life, living solely as Supergirl and not spending any time to enjoy her own life. That pressure seems to be understood by someone she believes is Pete Ross's son who she meets on a blind date. That boy tells her that she should know that there are others out there that feel the pressure. More importantly there are others that would want to help her.

At the end, we see that boy was Brainiac 5. There were plenty of hints in the story to lead me there. Heck, the variant cover was Brainy and Kara. But it is always nice to see a Brainy/Kara pairing in a story.

This might seem a high listing for a story in an anthology when so much goodness happened in the main comics but for someone craving new Legion and a Brainy/Kara romance, this was a gift.

#8 - "Who Wins The Rematch?" - Justice League Vs Godzilla Vs Kong 2 #2

The Justice League vs Godzilla books have been a true hoot, mixing kaiju with our heroes. Writer Brian Buccellato and artist Christian Duce have always shown great respect for Supergirl making her a leader and a brawler.

I have enjoyed the times that she and Kong squared off in the first series. There is something about Kong being seemingly obsessed with blonde Kara that rings true to his movie appearances. But Supergirl isn't going to be carried around. Here she decides to re-educate Kong about who she is and what she's all about.

Supergirl Vs. Kong! Let's get ready to rumble!!!

#7 - "A Kiss is Just a Kiss; a Sigh is Just a Sigh" - World's Finest #44

Three years ago in World's Finest #12 , writer Mark Waid gave us a story of a young Supergirl and even younger Robin going out on a horrific date, an event that made their relationship rather icy.

In an absolute stroke of genius, Waid with artist Lucas Meyer, gives us a sequel. This time the cock-sure Robin again teams up with the more mature, reserved Supergirl to take down a secret Luthor weapon base.

After an incredibly stressful fight requiring some tight teamwork, those initial feelings of attraction surge again. Flying out of the exploding lab, Supergirl and Robin share a kiss.

There is a lot to love here. The young nature of these heroes, their different styles, their different families leads to a lot of story to mine here. And given the earlier story, this ending was that much more delicious.

Babs who??

#6 - "Repudiation Part One - Saving Krypto" - Superman Red And Blue 2025 Special

One thing that I have been very worried about ... and remain very worried ... is that the Tom King take on Supergirl would somehow become *THE* take on the character.

So when the Paul Dini/Mirka Andolfo story in the Superman Red And Blue 2025 Special opened with Superman saying Supergirl was running wild on the planet Kyrus, racking up billions of credits in fines, I remained worried. Was the drunken, cursing, both sad and mad Kara from Women of Tomorrow so ingrained in mythos that even Paul Dini was writing her as a riot girl? My heart sank.

But then Dini did a 180. It was playful pup Krypto that had run amok and caused the damage. And to protect her dog from being put down, Supergirl took the rap.

THAT IS SUPERGIRL!

That is a repudiation of Tom King's take.

So there we are ... the bottom half of the 'best of' moments of 2025. Tomorrow, the top 5 moments of the year.

Let me know what you think so far!
