The October solicits for DC comics came out this week and are available to review in their entirety at the usual places. Here is a link to Newsarama (now Gamesradar) and their post:
https://www.gamesradar.com/dc-solicitations-october-2021/
It is an interesting month.
For the purposes of this site, there is no Supergirl solicited. Perhaps she is taking a break from her life of battle and woe. There are the usual Superman books solicited including the last issue of the Challenge of the Super-Sons book. I'll cover them in a second.
But this is a big Wonder Woman month with an 80th anniversary special, a Nubia book, the much anticipated DeConnick/Jimenez Amazon Historia book. If you are a Diana fan like me, there is a lot to get excited about in October.
And there is the usual glut of Batman books.
But onto the super-family issues.
ACTION COMICS #1036
Writers: PHILLIP KENNEDY JOHNSON and SEAN LEWIS
Artists: DANIEL SAMPERE and SAMI BASRI
Cover: DANIEL SAMPERE
Variant Cover: JULIAN TOTINO TEDESCO
THE WARWORLD SAGA BEGINS! After learning of an enslaved race with mysterious ties to Krypton, Superman and the Authority travel across the galaxy to dethrone the new Mongul and liberate Warworld. Introducing new characters and a new corner of the DC Universe, the biggest Superman event since the Death and Return of Superman begins HERE!
We move closer to the Future State Worlds of War story with Superman now off Earth and heading to Warworld.
I am glad that Daniel Sampere is still here on the book.
I like that the current Thao-La story and even the House of El mini are linked into this giving it a feeling of a grand scope and importance. But the biggest story since Death/Reign? That's pretty big boast!
SUPERMAN: SON OF KAL-EL #4
Writer: TOM TAYLOR
Artist: JOHN TIMMS
Cover: JOHN TIMMS
Variant Cover: INHYUK LEE
Kal-El has left, and the weight of the world now rests on his son's shoulders. Powerful forces have been threatened by Jon Kent's first leaps in his father's boots. It's hard to hurt a man of steel, but his loved ones make a much easier target.Jon's world is about to come crashing down.
A laser from the sky obiterating the Kent farm?
Well, one thing about Bendis' The Truth was that people were too scared of Clark to try and attack him through his family and friends.
Will they have that same respect for Jon? I guess we'll find out.
I wonder who has the audacity to vaporize the home.
CHALLENGE OF THE SUPER SONS #7
Writer: PETER J. TOMASI
Artist: MAX RAYNOR
Cover: SIMONE DI MEO
Variant Cover: RILEY ROSSMO
The boys have saved just about every single member of the Justice League from a horrendous fate at the hands of the DOOM SCROLL…but can the boys save themselves?! Challenge of the Super Sons ends here!
As I have said, I'll be sad to see this end. It is a great, fun read.
Does this mean their own symbols appear on the scroll? I guess that would mean at some point Faust put them on the damned list. Hmmm ...
CHECKMATE #5
Writer: BRIAN MICHAEL BENDIS
Artist: ALEX MALEEV
Cover: ALEX MALEEV
Variant Cover: MATT TAYLOR
THE DAEMON ROSE IDENTITY…REVEALED!
Ripped from the pages of Justice League! As Checkmate digs deeper, it's obvious that what Leviathan is selling is a dirty lie that cannot sustain itself…so Checkmate has to…INFILTRATE LEVIATHAN. But with Checkmate being so outside of the system, once any of them go undercover, they are officially…not on our side.
So we learn who Daemon Rose is ... hmmm. I didn't think this was a mystery to solve. I thought he was a new character. Time to start mulling things over.
Now this idea that Leviathan isn't the grass-roots good guy organization isn't surprising. There is no way that total knowledge transparency can't bring about chaos. But I will be watching to see if it is that Mark Shaw has turned again to the true dark side.
JUSTICE LEAGUE #69
Writers: BRIAN MICHAEL BENDIS and RAM V
Artists: SIYA OUM and SUMIT KUMAR
Cover: DAVID MARQUEZ
Variant Cover: ALEXANDER LOZANO
The superspies of Checkmate poke their sneaky noses where they do not belong, and the Justice League are NOT happy about it. In fact, most of the League isn't even happy Checkmate exists, setting up Checkmate versus the Justice League! The superspies versus the super…guys.
In Justice League Dark, Zatanna is locked in a battle with the greatest sorcerer of all time—Merlin!
Checkmate versus the Justice League seems like a very one-sided fight. So I hope this is a war of words and not punches.
That variant cover is pretty slick.
SUPERMAN '78 #3
Writer: ROBERT VENDITTI
Artist: WILFREDO TORRES
Cover: AMY REEDER
Variant Cover: LEE WEEKS
In order to save Metropolis, Superman must surrender to Brainiac or watch his city burn to the ground! After being taken aboard Brainiac's ship, Superman finds a shocking piece of his past that changes his entire future! Meanwhile, Lois Lane gets a cryptic message from a mysterious source claiming to have a way to save the Man of Steel!
I am very excited for this book. Sneak panels have been showing up on line. And frankly, I am hoping we get a Helen Slater Supergirl appearance, even on the last page of the last issue. Pretty please??
Anyways, my guess is we see Kandor in this issue ass the 'piece of his past'. And maybe that person Lois is talking to is Kara??
SUPERMAN VS. LOBO #2
Writers: TIM SEELEY and SARAH BEATTIE
Artist: MIRKA ANDOLFO
Cover: MIRKA ANDOLFO
Variant Cover: FICO OSSIO
Superman and Lobo's dreams come true! But maybe it's not always best to get what you wished for. When the godlike alien Numen brings the planets Krypton and Czarnia back from the grave, he makes a terrible error and puts Superman and Lobo on the wrong home planets! Now each must find their way off the resurrected worlds that seem to be their worst nightmares come to life!
I'm not planning on getting this book.
But this issue's plot sounds crazy enough for me to seek out reviews on line.
Lean month I guess!

I wonder if Helen Slater's "likeness rights" have been solicited by DC? That would be an indicator that Kara would be showing up in Superman '78...and having paid for said rights, I guess Supergirl wouldn't be then limited to a one panel cameo...or so we can hope, this is DC after all and they can screw up a two car funeral real easily...
:)

I'd assume the only reason Lobo would want Czarnia resurrected is to destroy it all over again.
I wasn't too impressed with the first issue solicit but might actually pick this one up. If I do, I'll let you know how it is.
I hope that if Superman '78 is a huge success, we soon have a Supergirl '84 comic.
Thanks for comments!
Hoping for Supergirl '84
What is up with her weird "Jughead Jones" needle nose in that panel?
