DC Solicits: February 2024

The March DC Comics solicits are out and the month is a fairly standard mix of books. There'll be a new Suicide Squad book out which I won't be getting. Mark Russell and Mike Allred reunite for a Batman book which I won't be getting. Superman will guest star in Tom King's Wonder Woman which I won't be getting. But the Super-books seem interesting.

Here is a link to all the solicits:

Alas, still no Supergirl solo title. It is a sad thing to say that in some ways I am glad since it most likely would have been written by Mariko Tamaki, who totally missed the mark for me with the Supergirl Special. But on to the actual books on the shelves.

Power Girl #7
Written by LEAH WILLIAMS
Art by MARGUERITE SAUVAGE
Cover by AMY REEDER
Variant covers by KEVIN WADA and JAE LEE

The Supergirls are trapped! While tracking down the missing citizens of Metropolis, Paige and Kara have found themselves powerless in the mythical realm of Ferembia. They’ll now have to rely on their wits to find an escape and the brains behind the whole operation before they’re stuck in their own personal dark age!

I haven't exactly been warm to the Power Girl book. And I don't think Leah Williams understands the Power Girl character or the Supergirl character. But usually when the Supergirl and Power Girl character team up, they fight each other. So I am sort of looking forward to this D&D style team up. Who knows if it will be any good. Love the Reeder cover.
Superman #12
Written by JOSHUA WILLIAMSON
Art by DAVID BALDEON
Cover by JAMAL CAMPBELL
Variant covers by LEE BERMEJO and CLAYTON HENRY

Superman is the brains while Lex is the brawn, as they team up to battle the Lex Luthor Revenge Squad for the fate of Metropolis. Lex has sworn to Superman that he is a changed man, but to what lengths will he go to stop his enemies?! And what danger from deep space rapidly makes its way toward Earth?

I still love the 'Lex Luthor Revenge Squad' name for people Lex has ticked off too much. I have found the 'is Lex changed' topic more interesting that I thought I would. I wonder if Williamson is ready to be done with it only 12 issues in.

And given all the hints, I assume the deep space threat is Brainiac.

Action Comics #1063
Written by JASON AARON
Art and cover by JOHN TIMMS
Variant covers by JORGE JIMENEZ, PAOLO RIVERA, and R. KIKUO JOHNSON

The startling finale of “I, Bizarro” sees the Man of Steel making his most shocking team-up ever as part of the mind-blowing final battle against the ultimate Bizarro.

Nice ragged cover here depicting the insanity of a Bizarro fight. But the solicit is pretty sparse on details. Jason Aaron has big shoes to fill with PKJ leaving the book.

Batman/Superman World’s Finest #25
Written by MARK WAID
Art and cover by DAN MORA and STEVE PUGH
Variant covers by JAMAL CAMPBELL, DUSTIN NGUYEN,
DAVE JOHNSON, JOELLE JONES, and ALVARO MARTINEZ BUENO

Join Batman and Superman as the World’s Finest team celebrates 25 issues of World’s Finest! This oversized special issue takes our heroes around the DCU and beyond—with a special lead story that will at last showcase the first meeting between The Joker and Lex Luthor. The World’s Finest villains form an unholy alliance and will send chills down the spines of the DCU Heroes forevermore! PLUS: Spinning out of the events of the World’s Finest Annual, Doom-Mite strikes and points the way to the next World’s Finest epic!

I suppose in the current comics world reaching 25 issues is a substantial landmark.

There is a nice resonance here with the world's Least Finest teaming up to fight our world's finest team. And Doom-Mite??

Superman ’78: The Metal Curtain #5
Written by ROBERT VENDITTI
Art and cover by GAVIN GUIDRY
Variant cover by MICHAEL WALSH

After the massive battle at the White House, Superman is forced to turn to his sworn enemy Lex Luthor for help in his fight with Metallo. But what does the greatest criminal mind of our lifetime know about the Russian war machine, and just how will Superman use the info to take the fight to Metallo?

Superman teaming with Lex in this book too?
Surely we will find out, as I guessed in the first issue of this book, that Lex is behind the Metallo armor to begin with. Will he know a flaw in the armor?

Hoping this is just the pencils of the cover.
Kneel Before Zod #3
Written by JOE CASEY
Art by DAN McDAID
Cover by JASON SHAWN ALEXANDER
Variant cover by LUCIO PARRILLO

Palace intrigue infects the House of Zod as war comes to New Kandor! What kind of chaos is wrought when alien invaders unleash their secret failsafe weapon? Who will survive? Who will die? You can’t afford to miss this major turning point in the cataclysmic cosmic saga of Zod!

The prologue of this mini-series in Action #1060 wasn't a great appetizer. But the threat of war on Kandor and some death (given Zod, Ursa, and Lor-Zod are the only lives on the planet) adds some intrigue.

Justice League Vs Godzilla Vs Kong #6
Written by BRIAN BUCCELLATO
Art by CHRISTIAN DUCE and TOM DERENICK
Cover by DREW JOHNSON

The bestselling clash between the DCU and the Monsterverse continues as a mysterious beacon is activated and is drawing Godzilla and his titan brethren toward it…but who—or what—controls the beacon? What secret has Lex Luthor kept under wraps that could change the dynamic of the entire battle?!

I am having fun with this book. Is the beacon the Dream Stone? Or something else?

And I am going to guess prematurely that the thing Lex has kept under wraps is Titano! Ape vs. Ape!

So not a bad month overall but nothing that grabs me and shakes me into excitement.

What did I miss?

More two panel appearances, more splash page flying to no effect, and when she is in the spotlight, it's just wrong. How will 2024 be different from 2023?
But this may be ending sooner than we think, allegedly WB Discovery wants to get acquired by Paramount, which those guys at WB are already throwing in the towel and checking the straps on their golden parachutes.

The Best is Yet to Come....
