Terrificon 2023 Prep

Hard to believe but Terrificon, my favorite comic con and a summer tradition, is just 2 weeks away. And that means I have to start getting my stuff together.

Terrificon has grown each year since I have started attending and this year in particular looks super-sized. The sheer amount of guests on the list is incredible. Head here for the rundown:

Now one of the good things about being an obsessed middle aged fan is that I have been to a lot of conventions which means I have met many of these guests before so the list is long but my guess is my bag will be relatively light. So on to some of the highlights and folks I am looking forward to and some possible commission ideas.

Far and away, the creator I am most interested in meeting is Denys Cowan. I have never had the opportunity to meet him and so was thrilled when I saw him listed.

Cowan drew the bulk of the Denny O'Neil Question series in the mid-80s which was a formative book for me, released at the perfect time. I love his art and will have a bunch of books for him to sign. I don't know if he is sketching but he would be my primary target! So pumped to meet him!

And a few more!

I have a ton of Supergirl issues signed by Jamal Igle from prior cons but I am always going to seek him out to thank him for his works. The Gates/Igle Supergirl IS the high water mark for the character in the modern age. Can't wait to thank him again.

I have met the Simonsons but the last time has to be 10 years ago.

Things I need to get:
Both signatures on Action Comics #1000, a book I have many sigs on already.
Walt's signature on Harley Quinn #0, another book I have many sigs on.

Their sigs on the 30th Anniversary Death of Superman book (and hoping to get Jurgens, Ordway, Breeding on this as well).

And who knows, if Walt is sketching, why not ask?

I haven't met Phil Hester before and he has done some stories I have liked recently, including the Action Comics story on his picture but also that silly Royal Flush Gang story in the Bendis' Justice League. I think a Supergirl sketch from him would be very interesting.

Darryl Banks is another creator whose work I have loved for a lone time but who has never been at a con I have attended before. So can't wait to meet him and talk Kyle Raynor!

Trust me, there are many MANY more guests who I will be looking forward to meeting but these are the top of my list, the circle the table and head their first on Friday names.

I also see Tom King is going to be there and I am struggling if I should head to his table to talk to him about Woman of Tomorrow or if I should just move on.

Anyways, I will be at the show at least Friday and Saturday. I am sure I'll be in a Supergirl t-shirt. Hope to see some of you there!

I hope you have a "terrific" time, Anj.

Off-topic, I suggest that you check Knight Terrors: Superman. Even though I am not interested in that event, the final pages are definitely of interest to Supergirl fans.

That guest list really is amazing. Wish I were going with you as I’m awful meeting creators at cons on my own, I just gush stupidly… I’m confident in my writing but can be rubbish in person! I’m inclined to say swerve Tom King, because what’s to be gained? He hears someone didn’t enjoy his comic, you’d be trying to tell him what you didn’t like while not sounding like a negative Nelly (I would certainly fail here). I say accentuate the positive and ask Jamal to join you for a coffee… say hi and thanks for me!

Have an amazing time.
