Supergirl Roller Coaster!

Every so often I think back to the days when I first started this blog with intention of showcasing my favorite character Supergirl, a character I felt had been completely overlooked and at times mistreated.

The times have changed over those 10 years haven't they. Successful live action television show. Successful animated programs. Successful toy lines. Even successful comic titles.

Still, every so often I am surprised when I see just how immersed Supergirl has become in the public consciousness. Like when I see that now she is going to have her own thrill ride at a Six Flags amusement park in St. Louis. Here is the link: https://www.sixflags.com/stlouis/attractions/newfor2019

And a brief blurb:
Drawing on SUPERGIRL’s powers of stamina and strength, thrill seekers spin and tilt, all while suspended from the whirling wheel of justice. Riders are raised up by a giant arm, feet dangling, and then launched into a high-speed spin…round and round…higher and higher.

Amazing!

A hat tip to Superman Home Page where I learned about this. A link to their coverage and some of the blurbs there.
https://www.supermanhomepage.com/supergirl-thrill-ride-opening-at-six-flags-st-louis-in-2019/

SUPERGIRL heroic highlights:
  • Guests fly in open air seats with feet dangling;
  • Super-sized wheel begins to spin horizontally, then a giant arm lifts and tilts the wheel to a vertical position as the high-speed rotations continue throughout;
  • and 24 riders will repeatedly reach maximum spinning height of 67-feet in the air.
SUPERGIRL is scheduled to land at Six Flags St. Louis spring 2019 and looking to recruit fliers 48″ and up.

This looks like a fun ride for thrill seekers like me. But more importantly, I am floored that there is going to be such a gigantic representation of Supergirl like this.

Maybe I shouldn't be surprised any more. Instead, maybe I should be thrilled that other people now see the greatness that I always saw.

If anyone in the St. Louis area sees it live next year, please send me pics!!

... I can't believe this. Has Barry Allen changed the timeline again? Thank God, Barry!

Joking aside, this is incredible news. I can't believe it.

"The times have changed over those 10 years haven't they."

I'd like believing this, but I don't see a lot people talking about Supergirl, not even in superhero-dedicated message boards.

P.D.: Wait a minute... Do you actually lurk in the Superman Homepage? That coven of I-hate-Kara-I-hate-her-show-I-hate-her-hypotetical-movie-Superman-should-be-the-only-Kryptonian Post-Crisis fanboys? You are a very brave, very patient man.

I follow the homepage on Twitter and head their for news that grabs me.

I don't lurk in the chats.

Yeah I threw in the towel on the Superman Homepage years ago, the boards were virtual on line "gated communities" for anti Supergirl Trolls. I scan the headlines on the site and then head somewhere more inviting...which is pretty much everywhere else on the internet.

They aren't worth of your time. Over one dozen of regular members whining about anything not going their way. The "I hate Supergirl" pack will see that you know they HATE Kara, just in case you missed it the first few dozens of times. Back when the AC #1000 variant covers were announced, they hated Supergirl showing up in some of them, and stated it should have been Jon instead of the sixty-year-old supporting cast member with a ten-year-long Action Comics run (never mind Jon and the Daily Planet cast made it to several covers). Once in a while some of them complain about Superman failing to make appearances in DCSHG. I'll spare you from their reactions when Kara defeated Kal in her show. And I remember when a new Supergirl movie was announced, one of them said it was "sickening" and Supergirl should be a low priority. Another member who happened to be a Kara fan said she never thought she would see a Superman fan telling it's sickening a Supergirl movie is made, and she reminded him Supergirl IS a low priority, since her film has been announced after six movies have been made and one dozen of projects have been greenlighted.

I find incredible a Superman fan says Superman-related projects must be a low priority, only because they aren't focused on the main character.

CBR boards are better, but not by far. A lot of 90's fans around putting Supergirl down constantly because they hate Superman sharing "the most powerful hero" title with a girl -and being okay with it- or because according them, the best Supergirl was replaced by a worthless character who is nothing but a Superman with boobs.

+9000 to that Anj! And seeing Supergirl get some love in the form of a rollercoaster ride? BRILLIANT! :D

Slight nitpick, but while I love the Matrix blue top and red skirt costume mixed with the TV series thigh-high boots I'm
slightly put off by the New52 chest logo.

Welllll....I hope that it does better than expected. Most of the online scuttlebutt regarding this Six Flags is that it's not much of a destination park anymore, as several rides have gotten old and run down. So a ride upgrade was overdue.

Most of the recent news regarding this park had been in relation to settling lawsuits due to injuries from ride mishaps. For example, a woman was flung from a water ride a couple of months ago, prompting its immediate closure.

So I hope that a Supergirl ride won't be encumbered by this kind of past controversy.

Supergirl has her own dedicated Facebook and other social media forums, which is where most of the talk about the character resides nowadays, instead of comics fanboy-centric boards. Plenty of Arrowverse series dedicated forums abound as well. Been enjoying the latest chatter about the fear bug that's arriving in National City soon....

Supergirl has had her share of detractors from the beginning. Here's a letter that appeared in Action Comics #255, three issues after her debut:

"Dear Editor,
I read every issue of Action Comics and find them very interesting.
But I protest against this addition of Supergirl to the magazine.
I'm sure most of us boys would prefer the book much better with
something else. So how about moving Supergirl to Lois Lane comics
or some other comic and make everybody happy?"

Signed "Marv Wolfman"

No, that's not true! Marv Wolfman did NOT write that letter!!! That was a joke! But it WAS an actual letter printed in Action 255.

Strangely, Mort Weisinger gave no reply.

You know you've made it when you have a thrill ride named after you. I think the Supergirl figure is based on the Re-Birth look, which used the New 52 "S" symbol, or one similar.

So what? Is someone supposed to get impressed? A lot of characters have their own Facebook, including obscure and little known ones.
