February's DC Solicits were released last week. While there is a glut of Future State books, the second of this two month experiment, there are a few other books out there worth peeking at. But this is a Supergirl blog so here is a link to those books:https://www.gamesradar.com/dc-future-state-superman-family-february-2021-solicitations-and-covers-revealed/
Now I don't think I am going much of this side trip to future worlds. In fact I am way more interested in seeing March's solicits. That will be the new norm for DC after the recent layoffs. And looking at the Future State books I do worry that these are books that have agendas. It takes something special to make books with an agenda be story-driven and not agenda-driven.
But here we go.
FUTURE STATE: KARA ZOR-EL, SUPERWOMAN #2
written by MARGUERITE BENNETT
art by MARGUERITE SAUVAGE
cover by PAULINA GANUCHEAU

The moon colony built around Superwoman's Fortress of Solitude is under siege! Shape-shifting aliens have come to this place of peace in search of Lynari, a refugee from their homeworld. It's a bad move on the part of these intergalactic bad guys: if Kara Zor-El offers you sanctuary, there's no way she's going to let anyone get their monstrous hands on you. Let's just hope this gamble is worth it, because Lynari's secret—the one that got her in trouble in the first place—could mean bad news for everybody!
So perhaps this is an agenda book about refugees, undocumented aliens, and the need to welcome people running to freedom from oppression.
The question for me is 'will this be a Supergirl story'? Or is this a story about refugees and undocumented people?
FUTURE STATE: SUPERMAN: HOUSE OF EL #1
written by PHILLIP KENNEDY JOHNSON
art by SCOTT GODLEWSKI
cover by YANICK PAQUETTE
card stock variant cover by JAY ANACLETO
Centuries into the future, the bloodline of Kal-El, the hero we know as Clark Kent, continues. Meet a new generation of Kryptonian heroes as they stand against one of the greatest threats they've ever faced: a diabolical foe called the Red King. Get ready for the unexpected debuts of the twins known as Rowan and Ronan Kent, descendants of Jonathan Kent. Rowan is the new Superman of Earth, while his sister is a Blue Lantern. Also on board are Theand'r Ban-El, whose mother was Tamaranean, and other heroes—all led by the original Man of Steel himself! Plus, don't miss an appearance by the Black Racer!
See how the future of the Superman Family comes together in this wild, extra-size special!
Again, this is clearly a book that was meant to be part of that 5G movement, bringing in new characters based on established continuity.
The twins sound interesting to me. An El as a Blue Lantern makes perfect sense.
And could Red King be linked to Red Cloud? As long as it isn't Kal-El, some nod to Red Son.
FUTURE STATE: SUPERMAN OF METROPOLIS #2

"The Guardian" written by SEAN LEWIS
"The Guardian" art by CULLY HAMNER
"Mister Miracle" written by BRANDON EASTON

card stock variant cover by INHYUK LEE
Braincells, the advanced offshoot of the diabolical Brainiac, continues to lure Jonathan Kent down the wrong path—but things go from bad to this can't get any worse when it appears it has also taken some manner of control over Supergirl! If the Kryptonians clash, nothing will be able to protect the bottled city of Metropolis!
Meanwhile, inside the bottle itself, the Guardian is doing everything he can to stop the city from destroying itself from within, while Mister Miracle has discovered the trail of a strange signal that he doesn't realize will take him to Warworld.
It pains me to see that in this one time story (I am assuming we will never see Future State again) that the story is Brainiac controlled Superboy and Supergirl fighting each other. Sigh. I shouldn't be surprised.
Will Mister Miracle be an immortal Scott Free? His kid?
FUTURE STATE:SUPERMAN VS. IMPERIOUS LEX #2
written by MARK RUSSELL
art by STEVE PUGH
cover by YANICK PAQUETTE
card stock variant cover by SKAN
It's really happening: Lexor has joined the United Planets! While surveying, Lois Lane and Superman discover that the planet is rich in minerals, causing Lex Luthor to try and exit the federation to make a pretty penny! Realizing he can't leave without agreement from Earth, he imprisons Lois Lane, then whips up the propaganda machine against Superman. Now the power couple must work together to break free and stop Luthor's plans! But how can they fight a whole planet that's designed to hate them?
FUTURE STATE:SUPERMAN VS. IMPERIOUS LEX #3
written by MARK RUSSELL
art by STEVE PUGH
cover by YANICK PAQUETTE
card stock variant cover by DAVID NAKAYAMA
Could the last days of Lexor be here already? Thanks to Lex Luthor's greed, his adopted home is on the brink of financial and planetary ruin after leaving the United Planets. Now it's up to Superman to act as a champion of these people and show them there's a way through all of this. Will Lex stand down? Or is this the final showdown? The future of Lexor depends on it!
Three issues in a two month event? Hmmmm ....
I haven't read a lot of Mark Russell so I am interested to see what all the hubbub is about.
And I'll agree that I am a fan of the Lexor concept.
FUTURE STATE: SUPERMAN: WORLDS OF WAR #2
"Superman: Worlds of War" written by PHILLIP KENNEDY JOHNSON
"Superman: Worlds of War" art by MIKEL JANíN
"Midnighter" written by MICHAEL W. CONRAD and BECKY CLOONAN
"Midnighter" art by GLEB MELNIKOV
"Black Racer" written by JEREMY ADAMS
"Black Racer" art by SIYA OUM
"Mister Miracle" written by BRANDON EASTON
"Mister Miracle" art by VALENTINE DE LANDRO
cover by MIKEL JANÍN
card stock variant cover by RICCARDO FEDERICI
Meet the rising champion of the gladiatorial pits of Warworld: Superman! The Man of Steel is still down in the pits duking it out with Mongul's hordes and working his way up to the big boss himself. But since it's Superman, there has to be more to this than a simple determination to win the title belt, right? Yes, because he's also got Midnighter out there on a mission to chase down a dangerous new power source... but the man standing in his way is all too familiar.
Plus, the Black Racer smashes her way to freedom, and Mister Miracle, now trapped on Warworld himself, has to find his way back to the bottle city of Metropolis—and his only mode of transportation is a busted Boom Tube!
Superman on Warworld to brawl with Mongul! I don't know if I have ever been dissatisfied with this story. And art by Mikel Janin is a draw.
Don't know a lot about Midnighter as all those characters are a sort of black hole in my knowledge. Glad to see Becky Cloonan though!
FUTURE STATE: SUPERMAN/WONDER WOMAN #2
written by DAN WATTERS
art by LEILA DEL DUCA
cover by LEE WEEKS
card stock variant cover by TERRY DODSON and RACHEL DODSON
Our heroes have challenged the gods themselves to a test of bravery for the fate of the Earth. But gods are notorious cheaters, and with Superman's powers in flux, it falls to Wonder Woman to face down the sun itself! A utopian future awaits—but only if a Kryptonian peacemaker and an Amazon warrior can put aside their differences to become the World's Finest Heroes!
Again it is interesting (maybe disheartening) that in a two month event so many of these mini-series have heroes fighting each other. Can they put aside their differences? Again??
What I don't know is if this Superman is the same one in all these other mini-series.
FUTURE STATE: LEGION OF SUPER-HEROES #2
written by BRIAN MICHAEL BENDIS
art and cover by RILEY ROSSMO
card stock variant cover by IAN MaCDONALD
The unthinkable has happened: one of the Legionnaires has betrayed the entire galaxy! The United Planets is in ruins, the team has been scattered across the cosmos, and madness reigns on multiple worlds! Now the surviving Legionnaires are just discovering the real truth behind what has happened to their dream of a new age of heroes. Don't miss this shocking twist 1,000 years in the making from the team of writer Brian Michael Bendis and visionary artist Riley Rossmo.
I have been very very pleased with Bendis run on Legion so I am unhappy that we have a 2 month pause. (I am assuming the title will return in March.) Riley Rossmo has a style that I like so I look forwarded to seeing his work on two issues of Legion.
But a traitor Legionnaire? Who could it be? I'm going to call on one of the versions of Triplicate Girl.
Seriously though, let's get to March's solicits.

Imperious Rex #3 is coming out at the end of March. Strange! The only piece of the 2-month event dangling into a 3rd month.
Mark Russell wrote the Wonder Twins maxi-series, and also the Harley Quinn Villain of the Year one-shot, among many other things. What I've read of his is always agenda-driven satire (even Wonder Twins managed to hit themes in each of the 12 issues). I guess almost everything he writes ends in a multi-page homage with narration boxes.... laying it all out... in that.... kind of style.
Looking at the solicits of Imperious Lex, I'd expect themes like over-extracting from the environment for profit; and something about lies the powerful rich tell to get people riled up and supportive of platforms that are probably harmful to their own interests.
He's been writing Red Sonja, and I know nothing about her but do wonder how he injects social commentary in those stories. I guess the same way he did with The Flintstones - sword and sorcery, or cavemen. (Steve Pugh was his art partner on Flintstones, and I see they are back together on Imperious Lex.)
So: I guess it's obvious, but it seems likely from the title alone that the "Superwoman" series is going to be set further into the future than the Metropolis one with "Supergirl." Maybe much further.

Hello from a french fan of supergirl,
I though that supergirl contaminated had killed brainiac ... with the game sucide squad, this villain is everywhere.
I am like you, i'll wait until i read superwoman before i form an opinion.
House of El, will we have the genealogical tree of the family ? it's starting to get crowded.
I like Lexor, I like the Legion, I like Kara, I like Mark Russell... but I have zero enthusiasm for any of these. They all sound like the many Elseworlds I’ve ignored over the years... the Elseworse.
The new Wonder Woman of the future is "real" - the younger her is going to get a Wonder Girl series or mini soon, and she's also headed to the CW TV. What this means for Cassie Sandsmark.... we'll miss you Cassie! We only just found you again.
In the present, Spoiler and Orphan have already been seen taking on the Bat symbol, so the Batgirls backup stories probably will be well-rooted in continuity. Still, may not work out quite the same way.

Supergirl in hospital fatigues and a "covid hairdo"....a great future DC has in mind for the Maid of Might. Otherwise this whole mishaugas has a "DC Gotterdammerung" quality to it, I am no asking myself what is DC's Plan for Kara, I'm increasing asking myself if DC Comics is still going to be publishing a year from now.
JF
Not gonna lie, the suit Kara has in the Metropolis title is a thousand times better than the one in the Bennet comic. Much, much better. Rather have full-blown kryptonian spandex armour than whatever the people in DC thought of for "Superwoman".
And I have zero enthusiasm for any of those as well.
"The question for me is 'will this be a Supergirl story'? Or is this a story about refugees and undocumented people?"
It can't be both? What else should a "Supergirl story" be about, if not showing her as a champion of the oppressed?
Of course it can be both. But what is the focus is.
As I say, I want a Suoergirl story with an agenda. Not an agenda story wit Supergirl.
It’s a fine line, I know.
But if you can remove Kara and stick in any other hero, and have the story ply the same, it won’t work for me.
