I'll get by with a little help from my friends.
Long time friend Mart Gray sent me a wonderful gift from across the pond. So here are some UK stamps from the Royal Mail Group! Royal Mail Group is a British multinational postal service and courier company, originally established in 1516 as a department of the English government.
Here is some internet coverage about this from Bleeding cool: https://bleedingcool.com/comics/jim-cheung-draws-dc-comics-superheroes-for-british-royal-mail-stamps/
There is a lot to love about this sheet. Love that it is the Justice League with Wonder Woman front and center. I think it is great for Jessica Cruz as the Green Lantern.
And, of course, how great that Supergirl is on the sheet. I think it is great that Supergirl is part of this Justice League, even if it is just on some merch.
The art for the stamps is done by Jim Cheung!
I have been a huge fan of Cheung's work for a long long time. So I love that we get to see his Supergirl.
The art work is just gorgeous.
Nice to see her teamed with Shazam too.
Just gorgeous.
The back of the stamps is a bio page for all the heroes on the front.
Such a nice way to maybe inform folks on who these heroes are.
I always find it fascinating when there is significant dissonance between what a character is like in mainstream marketing and what we read in the comics.
Is it me or is Supergirl IN The Justice League Almost Everywhere EXCEPT the Justice League Comic(s)??

I’m so pleased Supergirl flew in! The US Postal Service did us proud!
ReplyDeleteWhat a nice gift! It's always good to see Supergirl included in things like this. Jim Cheung's art is terrific.
ReplyDeleteBut please tell me why, with cousin Kara right there on the same page, Superman's bio describes him as "the LAST survivor of Krypton"? Oh well...
And did you notice that the bio for Jessica Cruz reads "in DARKEST day and blackest night"? The proofreader must have been having a bad day. Maybe too much partying the night before!
Last doesn't necessarily mean sole
DeleteGood thing they didn't get the memo that things have changed at DC, or they'd have written:
ReplyDelete"Superman's cousin Kara Zor-El was sent to Earth as a teenager to babysit the infant Kal-El. Arriving late and finding her cousin had already grown, Kara became without purpose - resentful, angry, and violent. She now travels the universe alone, hoping to forget her pain."

This isn't the only Supergirl merchandise out there right now. Hershey's is putting out limited run super hero milk chocolate bars featuring various DC superheroes. One of the heroes featured on her own bar is Supergirl in her classic red skirt costume. You can find them at Wal-Mart or on Ebay.
ReplyDeleteHey Anj, if you are looking for a rare guest appearance by Supergirl in the bronze age Justice league, check out Justice League of America #132 thru #134, at the very least you'll see Dick Dillon drawing Kara Zor El.
