I say this because the July DC solicits are out and I was expecting to see the new Supergirl book (or at least the Rebirth Supergirl Special) to be among the books listed. But I was wrong. I have to wait a little bit longer. Still there are a lot of new books out there which sound interesting enough for me to give them a whirl. Here is a link:

And on the to new solicits.

Piecing together this solicit, it sounds like Facet was the head of Fort Rozz. So what opened that made a prison official become a villain attacking Supergirl? This has been a wonderful series so far. Now I get an issue other art by both Cat Staggs *and* Emma Vieceli?
I hope that when the show gets renewed, this book gets renewed too!

I guess this is the final issue. For now.
Love this cover!

Let me say I am thrilled that this book seems to have survived #Rebirth. It has been a consistently entertaining book. While this issue solicit doesn't mention Supergirl, she is a part of the book. In theory, there may be a time that three books starring Supergirl are on the racks at the same time!
As for this issue, I have loved the free-spirited Mera in this title. So glad to see her spotlighted.
And now the Superman books.

I think it is a little early to be revisiting Doomsday given the nutty mega-crossover Doomsday virus story wormed through all the super books just a couple of years ago.
I suppose we have the old Superman back, so touching on some classic ideas might not be bad, re-establishing them as much as the Man of Steel.

Now we are cooking.
Unlike Doomsday, The Eradicator hasn't been revisited in some time, probably since his most recent stint on the Outsiders. Bringing back a Kryptonian cultural remnant and putting it in Jon White's life is an intriguing storyline.

I gotta say, I'm on the fence. Yang didn't do himself any favors in my book with The Truth.
I'll give it a shot.

Hard for me to understand why this is being reprinted and the Gates/Igle stuff isn't. This is a rough run on Supergirl. She flirts in bars, getting in because she is wearing tight shirts. She apparently gunned down her Kryptonian school Columbine style. She wants to kill Superman. I mean it ... this is rough. That said, the Infinite Crisis Christmas story is wonderful.
I suppose more stuff being printed and resolicited is a good thing for Supergirl.
Agree with you Anj, seems the big push seems to be in July and later, for better or worse. Definately hopeful
ReplyDeletethat Adventures Of Supergirl continues, as does Bombshells. LOVE Sterling Gates' work on Kara, and how much he
still has her "voice" whenever he writes.
I'm also looking out for Daring New Adventures, and the DC Super Hero Girls:Final Crisis books, can't wait!
Agree the Doomsday / Wonder Woman bit is a bit of a question-mark. Are they going to still be a couple
post-Rebirth? The last panel in Action Comics #51 pretty much laid that question on the table bare. As is
the decision on re-TPB'ing issues 11, 13 - 22 for Supergirl.
Me, personally, I'm still waiting for them to release "Good Looking Corpse."
Regards
The cover to Bombshells #15 reminds me of that war bonds poster of the sailor getting ready to slam an artillery shell into the breach.
ReplyDeleteVisored Eradicator convinces me this is Reign of the Supermen 2.0, which convinces me Superman will be back and Superdad taking over is temporary. So hopefully my leave of absence from Action/Superman won't be that long.
ReplyDeleteThe Wonder Woman thing is just a lazy solicit, not taking into account its a different Superman. That's all.
Reign 2.0 is an interesting read on these solicits Jay. Especially with Doomsday and Jurgens involved.
ReplyDeleteHmmmmm...

ReplyDeleteI'm not sure why there's hate for Superman as a dad when Batman is, and has been for some time a father, especially since, at least Pre-Flashpoint, Jason Todd and Dick Grayson were officially adopted.
ReplyDeleteLike others I have thought that Super League becoming the "The Final Days of Superman" and entering "Reign of The Supers" with Rebirth could maybe the latest 1990's rehash DC did. As on Martin's blog, I posted how we have "Man of Steel/ Steel" be Lex Luthor in the metal suit this time. We have a new Superboy, we have a more prominent Supergirl just as Mae was made so back in the day, and through Supergirl we have Cyborg Superman. I had forgotten there's Eradicator. Steel himself seems to have disappeared but we have a Superman of another ethnicity, if you want to stretch this out. Like how Lois Lane was much more in the spotlight since Clark was gone, we have Lois Lane again take much more center stage with one of her becoming Superwoman. Of course, we also have Superman himself.
I sincerely hope that this isn't just a New 52 version of "Death of Superman," "Funeral For a Friend," "World Without a Superman," "Reign of the Supermen," "The Return of Superman," because DC would lose me for good this time. All of those trades have been recently reprinted with new covers and there's multiple trades featuring Superman being written by Dan Jurgens. Conspiracy anyone?
In any case, they are continuing to reprint PAD's Supergirl. Amazon has Supergirl: Peter David Book 2 coming out. With the Silver Age Omnibus, and TDNAOS, the "Supergirl at Super Hero High" novel, they are cashing in on the hype for Supergirl. If she continues to be popular, I imagine that Gates' and Igle's run will be reprinted down the road, as it will be in successive volumes. The biggest question for me is why is #11 reprinted here instead of volume 1. I had thought the reason it wasn't included was because of how she was portrayed in her failure with The Outsiders and her swearing like a sailor.
In any case, this year alone we have Pre-COIE Supergirl's adventures in trade to collect, we have Matrix in John Byrne trade and the "Panic In The Sky" new edition, Linda Mae Danvers in her trade volumes, Pre-Flashpoint Supergirl's adventures, New 52 Supergirl is getting a new comic book, we have the TV Supergirl comic books and trade, (not to mention Blu-Ray and DVD) we have Bombshells Supergirl in floppy and trade. We will have JL3001 available in trade, even if it is a short run, with the last of the issues coming out soon, we have "Cosmic Adventures ..."'s trade's new edition, we have Super Hero High Supergirl starring in the web series of DC Super Hero Girls, which also has graphic novels and novels, and with Superman/ Batman trades being re-released, you have Pre-Flashpoint Power Girl and even Cir-El. Lego Supergirl just appeared in a direct to video movie, but is seen in Lego story books also, and a lead role in two of them. There's also "Classic" Supergirl appearing in board books for kids for example. There's also New 52 Power Girl in floppies and trades. So, right now, at one's fingertips, in brand new physical print form, we have access to sooo many versions of the S Girl. Even if some of the stories aren't great (to put it mildly) that a lot to love for a Supergirl fan!
For the record I don't think pre-FP Superman will go away once Superman returns. I think the plan is to use them both. pre-FP Superman will essentially be the new Kal-L. Older, married, and hangs with the JSA (I think he'll be a member once they return too).
