Supergirl Digital Comic
For the longest time, Supergirl fans have been wondering why there isn't a comic on the shelves starring Kara. In particular, folks have been wondering why there isn't a digital tie-in book, linked to the show, similar to what we have seen DC do with Arrow and The Flash.
Well, it looks like we won't have to wonder much longer. There is going to be a digital first comic. And we have Supergirl.tv for the scoop. Here is the link: http://supergirl.tv/supergirl-companion-comic-a-go
And the release, part of an Amazon solicit for the book, confirms the book:
SUPERGIRL: DIGITAL FIRST VOL. 1 ties directly into critically acclaimed Fall 2015 hit television show Supergirl, continuing storylines as they appear on the show.
Kara Zor-El landed on Earth after many years stuck in en route from her now-destroyed home planet Krypton, having followed in her famous cousin Superman's footsteps. Upon arriving, she was taken in by the lovely Danvers family and taught to hide her un-Earthly powers from sight. As the world falls in love with her super hero cousin Superman, Kara starts to feel the urge to embrace her powers, especially when her powers can save someone she loves.
But does National City want a Supergirl? Is the world ready for another super hero? And what other-worldly consequences arrive once Kara Danvers reveals her true self? Find out in the stories between the episodes in SUPERGIRL: DIGITAL-FIRST VOL. 1!
So hooray for us! A book is going to come out ... FINALLY!
Now comes the fun of picking over this relatively generic promo piece.
There has been no official release from DC Comics, so this reads like something very preliminary.
First off, I can't imagine the title is Supergirl:Digital First.
Second, there isn't a creative team listed.
So while we now know that there will be a book, we don't know much more. So everyone start thinking again about who your dream Supergirl creative team would be.
If there is a God of Mercy & Justice in Heaven Above then Amanda Connor will provide the pencils and Gail Simone will script....Failing Gail then maybe Mark Waid could be induced to Make Peace with DC and Join The Supergirl Adventure.....

Gates & Igle are the obvious choice, but I'd love to see the book follow the lead of Adventures of Superman and let creators be creative. IF (that's a big "if" ) that's the case, then Kevin Maguire is a must.
ReplyDeleteI know you're mainly a physical comic reader but are you going to read this digitally since it doesn't sound like physical copies will be out until late 2016? In any case, this is finally the right move by DC, they should have had something in place sooner though rather than waiting and seeing if Supergirl would flop for some reason on CBS. No news on a Supergirl comic in the DCYou/New 52 line though, that's a shame.
ReplyDeleteSolid choices for creative teams but Waid is never going back to DC ever again I know that much based on the bitterness of his tweets sometimes. I'd like Sholly Fisch or Kate Perkins to work on this perhaps. Though I hope it's better than the Arrow and Flash TV tie in comics, I don't hear much praise for those.

maybe its time to Inquire After the Soul of Landry Walker....hell is Steve Skeates still lookin' for work?

I don't know who would be doing this comic and there is no sure word on when it is coming out. The people at Supergirl.tv suggested that it would come out in early 2016 with a paper version following in Aug.
ReplyDeleteSounds like it'll be purely digital for a while before physical copies come out. I know you're usually a physical reader but will you try and read it digitally each week for this one Supergirl comic?

Great ideas for creators. Waid! Walker! Conner! Unbelievable guesses all ... even if sadly unlikely.
ReplyDeleteAnd I think I am contractually obligated to read this book digitally. #sadtrombone
This is great news. We'll definitely be reading it!
