Alex Ross Adult Titans
I am always amazed when I hear about comics that were pitched and for some reason weren't made. So many sound like good reasons for companies to take my money.
So imagine when I read this story on Comic Book Resources about a series Alec Ross pitched for a series starring Batman's son which included a JLA composed of the older wiser Titans. Here is the link:

That image above is just incredible. Batgirl as Batwoman. Donna Troy as a Wonder Woman sporting her unitard look. An older Robin. And in the background, Supergirl!
Who wouldn't buy this book??
Of course, Batman's son was part of zany Bob Haney's insanity so maybe DC didn't want something like that out there in any form.
What about the concept? Well the article covers this bombshell ...
But here’s the craziest twist…the whole series would be revealed to be a tie-in with none other than ZERO HOUR!
Remember how Hal Jordan wanted to create a new, nicer world in Zero Hour?
Oh my god! A 'nicer' universe? With an adult Titans/League??
Incredible!
For this Donna Troy alone I would buy the book.
But I gotta give some love to this Supergirl with her faux-hawk, point sleeves, and bathing suit look. Just beautiful!
We seen precious little of Alex Ross' Supergirl - a panel in Kingdom Come and the Silver Age Kara in Justice.
This world should have been part of Multiversity!!
Y'know from out the Silver Age to Now, the one counterfactual Superman scenario we never see is "Superman is dead or gone, and Supergirl inherits his role as Earth's Greatest Hero". I mean you'd think its a no brainer with tons of plot possibilities but I can think of only one or two instances where it was deployed....and those were with qualifications.

Wait would this be Kara or Matrix or Linda?
ReplyDeleteTechnically, Matrix and Linda are the same person at different times in their life.
ReplyDeleteThe way Supergirl was drawn reminds me of the Elseworld's Finest version of her. It may just be me, but her hair
ReplyDeletestyle just grates my teeth... I've always prefered my Kara's with long hair.
Regards
Alex Ross would never go beyond the original Linda Danvers, his DC vision always sticks with the classics. I really don't like this Supergirl look. Too harsh. And while it maybe a 'nicer' DCU, his characters are always posing in a 'are you looking at me' way - all attitude, no warmth. Look art Robin, did example, he looks like a nasty man!
ReplyDeleteMy guess is, as others have said, that this is Kara Zor-El, reborn in another reality.
ReplyDeleteIt does sort of remind me of the Elseworlds Supergirl now that you mention it.
And I thought this stern looks on everyone was the tried and true 'check us out, we aren't sidekicks any more' pose. I don't think it would have mirrored the tone of the thing given what I read about it.

ReplyDelete"Superman #149: The Death of Superman!" being one of them?
It has to be Kara. Alex Ross loves the Silver and Bronze Ages. In "Justice" he definitely used Kara, and she had a slightly bigger role and a few more lines than the remainder teen heroes (and I liked John's line right before de-brainwashing her: You're not killing any heroes, Supergirl. You're going to save people, as always")
