June Solicits
DC's solicits for June were just released and normally I would include a link to the DC website. But the new DC site's comic solicit section is pretty awful. No screening by months. No easy viewing of the covers. So instead, I'll include a link to Newsarama's post here:
http://www.newsarama.com/comics/dc-comics-June-2012-solicitations.html
Now any new website is going to take some used to. But really, the only place that the new DC website completely fails at is the solicit section. The old one worked so well.
Anyways, on to the solicits.
SUPERGIRL #10
Written by MICHAEL GREEN and MIKE JOHNSON
Art and cover by MAHMUD ASRAR
• SUPERGIRL trapped in the nightmarish spirit world of the BLACK BANSHEE!
• What happens when a KRYPTONIAN loses control of his or her powers? MASSIVE DESTRUCTION!
The cover looks like Krypton, which we know is gone. So this must be some fever dream by Black Banshee. So maybe this will give us some more origin? And maybe this is what they mean by losing control. That she destroys part of NYC because she thinks she is on Krypton.
I do love the cover as it shows more of what the complete Kryptonian suit would look like, including shoulder pads and a big old sword. Interesting.
ACTION COMICS #10
Written by GRANT MORRISON
Backup story written by SHOLLY FISCH
Art by GENE HA and RICK BRYANT
Backup story art by BRAD WALKER
Cover by RAGS MORALES
Variant cover by BRYAN HITCH
• CLARK KENT is DEAD!
• The three-part ACTION COMICS summer event storyline begins here!
• New villain NIMROD THE HUNTER is on SUPERMAN’S trail! He’s killed every living thing he’s ever tracked – but he’s never killed an ALIEN!
Nimrod was a great hunter in the bible, so it is a good enough name for a comic character. We have met him briefly in the Legion issues of Action (he shot the K bullet into Superman's head). So I can't wait to read a proper story with him.
The idea of 'killing' Clark off and making Superman fend without a secret identity has been done before. So we'll see how it works with Morrison.
And Gene Ha is on art! Bonus!
SUPERMAN #10
Written by KEITH GIFFEN and DAN JURGENS
Art by DAN JURGENS and JESUS MERINO
Cover by IVAN REIS and EBER FERREIRA
1:25 B and W Variant cover by IVAN REIS and EBER FERREIRA
• SUPERMAN’S new foe – the one that can’t be touched – has found a way hurt both The Man of Steel AND Clark Kent!
This is a nondescript enough solicit for me to have no idea what will happen in this issue.
SUPERBOY #10
Written by SCOTT LOBDELL
Art by IBAN COELLO
Cover by SCOTT CLARK
• WONDER GIRL, SOLSTICE, RED ROBIN, KID FLASH and BUNKER all guest-star in a story that connects to this month’s TEEN TITANS #10.
• Don’t miss SUPERBOY and WONDER GIRL, lost in an ancient world – with no adult supervision!
So I worry that there is going to be too much connectivity between Superboy and Titans. I hope it won't drive me away from this book. It is interesting to see Wonder Girl in a Superboy-style uniform.
I'm kind of bummed to not see RB Silva on the issue.
WORLDS’ FINEST #2
Written by PAUL LEVITZ
Art by GEORGE PEREZ, SCOTT KOBLISH and KEVIN MAGUIRE
Cover by GEORGE PEREZ
1:25 B andW Variant cover by GEORGE PEREZ
• HUNTRESS and POWER GIRL versus THE IRRADIATED MAN!
• Learn what our heroes have been doing since they arrived here five years ago from Earth Two!
So I wonder just what this book will be like. I did like the Huntress mini-series that Levitz just finished. And the idea of a link to Earth 2 is intriguing.
Power Girl's uniform looks a little different here, with the red portion larger and the P more prominent. And is it just me or does that villain look Anti-Monitor-esque?
SUPERMAN FAMILY ADVENTURES #2
Written by ART BALTAZAR and FRANCO
Art and cover by ART BALTAZAR
• SUPERMAN trains his young sidekicks to become Super Heroes!
• BIZARRO comes to Earth and makes a mess of METROPOLIS!
• JIMMY OLSEN finds out that being Superman’s pal means help is only a SHOUT away!
So can I repeat how excited I am for this book?
An inspiring Superman training the members of the Superman Family? Multiple stories with different members of the mythos, just like the old Superman Family book? And a crazy Bizarro!
This looks like the perfect book for older Superman fans to introduce younger fans to all things Super!
DC COMICS PRESENTS: SUPERMAN/SUPERGIRL #1
Written by JEPH LOEB and DAN DIDIO
Art and cover by IAN CHURCHILL and NORM RAPMUND
• Spotlighting the art of IAN CHURCHILL with stories from SUPERMAN/BATMAN #19, SUPERMAN #176, SUPERGIRL #1, DC INFINITE HALLOWEEN SPECIAL #1 and DCU HOLIDAY SPECIAL #1!
I can understand DC promoting Ian Churchill as he is doing the Ravagers book. But it seems strange to be at the same time promoting the 'old' Supergirl, especially the tougher early issues. I don't have the DC Infinite Halloween Special so I might have to get this.
Looking forward to Supergirl 10!
