Sales Review: February 2010

The sales numbers for February are up at ICV2 and as expected the anniversary issue Supergirl #50 did very well. Here is the link: http://www.icv2.com/articles/news/17020.html

Supergirl #50 ranked 48th among comics selling 33,338 issues. That is an increase of 20% from issue #49. It also is the highest amount sold since issue #44, the beginning of Codename:Patriot.

It also outsold every one of the Superman titles, which creeped in right behind.

Of course, this issue had a lot going for it to spur sales up a bit.

It was the magical number fifty.
It had a Michael Turner cover.
It had a variant cover by Josh Middleton.
It had a story co-written by Helen Slater.

There was a lot of publicity and buzz around this. Hopefully some of the folks who tried out the issue will stick around for the future.

As for R.E.B.E.L.S. #13, it continued to dive in sales after the Blackest Night bump.

The penultimate issue of the Starro saga sold 11,836.

My guess is their might not be any middle ground with the book. You either love it or not. There might not be a 'I like REBELS' crowd. Anyways, I look forward to see what happens post-Starro.
I will review the last chapter of that story soon.

  1. WOW! Sincerest congrats go out to Sterling, Jake, Helen, Jamal and everyone else involved in the success of #50 selling the numbers it did! B-D

So sad that 'R.E.B.E.L.S.' seems to be struggling in sales for it truly is such a kick ass title that should have more fans willing to give it a go. *sighs*

  2. It is annonying to see a truely great book like R.E.B.E.L.S. have low sales, however when you look at the sales rankings as a whole, there are actually signs of improvement for R.E.B.E.L.S.

In the February rankings, R.E.B.E.L.S. actually did better than Johah Hex, which is the book that has a non-cancellation status we wish R.E.B.E.L.S. to have.

It also sold much higher that either of the Red Circle books, which DC is very committed to. Makes it kind of hard to justify cancelling REBELS with out cancelling those books first.

And finally, R.E.B.E.L.S. ranking for issue 13 is actually 26 places higher than issue #9 which was just before the Blackest Night tie-in.

P.S.>> Oh and also, Tony Bernard had an interview about his new gig on Green Lantern Corps, and in the interview when asked about the status of R.E.B.E.L.S., he said that he turned in an outline for the next year of stories, and that there has been no talk of cancellation with the DC higher-ups.

  3. Hey, thought you might be interested to know that Supergirl appeared in this weeks Batgirl- it was for one panel, but Oracle called her in to save the day and smash the sattelite that was blocking Gotham's communication systems. Steph personally got online to say thanks to her, and she responded "Anytime, Batgirl!" It was really great to see the friendship be referenced in Steph's own title, and so soon, too!

    Thanks for the post.

It may have it in a 'non-public' way.

My understanding is Hex has it because it fits a niche - western comics. My guess is Hellblazer has it as well.

Maybe REBELS fills a 'cosmic' niche.

    I hope so.

  7. @JP: is this my online pal Jimmy Palmiotti himself? If so, dude, it's Anthony Arfuso here who apologizes for not posting on your facebook wall since last on (my damn PC finally died on me (including ALL my art being lost in the process) and have been having to fall back on using Nintendo's Wii cosole which won't allow me to access or post anything on facebook. *sighs*)
I'm so sorry to hear that you aswell as your co writing partner and lovely wife are sadly leaving 'Power Girl' as of #12 for I've really loved what y'all did with her title during your time on it and thank you for all the great stuff everyone did with it. 8. WOO-HOO! Supergirl cameo!

Very sad to read that Jimmy Palmiotti, Amanda Connor, and the rest of the team leaving the Power Girl title. First Gail Simone leaves Wonder Woman, now this. You guys really made Power Girl a fun comic to enjoy. Best of luck to you JP!
