Superman/Batman #62 Preview

Just a reminder that we get an extra dose of Supergirl this week in Superman/Batman #62. The DC Blog posted some preview pages last week and they are worth a peek (
http://dcu.blog.dccomics.com/2009/07/09/end-the-day-with-a-look-at-supermanbatman-62/ )

Here is the official solicit:

Superman/Batman #62
Written by Michael Green and Mike Johnson
Art and Cover by Rafael Albuquerque

When the inmates take over Arkham Asylum, it's a job for the World's Finest duo – Robin and Supergirl! Rafael Albuquerque (BLUE BEETLE) joins the series as regular artist for a story we could only call "Sidekicked!"

If the preview pages are an indication of the whole story, it looks like it will be a fun read as Supergirl and Robin remember their 'first adventure' together.

The issue starts off with Supergirl flying to Gotham to meet Tim for lunch.

Yep ... that's Linda Lang there. For those keeping track the Linda Lang sighting scoreboard reads as follows.

Superman/Batman Linda appearances: 2
Supergirl Linda appearances: 1

I do like that Linda is being 'recognized' in the DCU and look forward to seeing that aspect of Supergirl explored in her main title.

As the two eat lunch, the recall their first meeting.
Superman brings Supergirl to the Batcave so Tim can teach her some rudimentary detective skills. Of course the 'grown-ups' are needed elsewhere leaving the two alone.

Tim is all business and actually looks like he can't be bothered with Kara. I do like how she takes the 'tour of the Batcave' in a couple of seconds.

Who knows if or where this fits in continuity. It looks like the plot takes them to Arkham to suppress a riot.

Certainly Supergirl looks like she is much more bubbly than you would expect her to be if this is an early Loeb-era Kara story.

Regardless, the Rafael Albuquerque art looks great with an expressive and cute Supergirl working next to the repressed Robin. I'll post a review some time this week.

  1. I've always thought that Robin and Kara would make a great King and Queen of the Teen Titans prom.
Not a serious couple you understand...but a cute one and a friendly one.

  2. Question: why is Tim wearing his 'One Year later' time line's costume when this is meant to be apparently Kara meeting him when Conner was still a member of the TT? :/

Regardless, truly looking forward to getting this later on this week! BD

  3. Rafael Albuquerque really knows how to draw a cute Kara. That alley scene where she changes into Linda is charming.

  4. Just as Anj said, I also like the fact that Linda is being 'recognized' by the heroes of the DCU now. I'm certainly looking forward to this trend continuing. I personally hope we get to see "on panel" the moment Kara tells Kal/Clark to start calling her Linda. I'm trying to imagine how the conversation would go. Would she interrupt him in the middle of a conversation at a point where he calls her Kara and then stop him and say "by the way, you can call me Linda now." I imagine it might be a cute entertaining conversation to be seen "on panel" in the actual pages of a story.

  5. I like a bubbly, kind of hyper Supergirl, the way Mark Waid wrote her in Brave & the Bold and LOSH.

I know why Tim was so uptight. It's the whole "left alone with a hot babe whose cousin could crush me into a diamond" thing. It would make any guy tense.

  6. Yeah if we couldn't have Sterling Gates then I'd want Mark Waid, he is another one who just "gets" Kousin Kara.

    I loved this issue too.

I'll try to get the review up by Monday.

I was floored by how good his art was throughout this issue.

And he really does draw a great Supergirl.

I am looking forward to this sort of stuff with Linda as well.

In issue #34 when Linda shows up at the Planet, Clark looks shocked. It is clear this was Kara's idea and he wasn't in on it. So I hope there is some discussion with Superman.

Maybe in the Linda Lang story promised in the Annual?
