This issue was pencilled by Fernando Dagnino, who I believe is also doing some upcoming Action Comics. From what I have seen of this issue, I think he will do a fine job standing in for Jamal Igle for an issue.
After a page showing Lana being wheeled into a hospital, we cut right to the action - starting out in Project 7734's headquarters. Seems like they have those flying drones everywhere and are able to look in on Supergirl and Superwoman's battle.
It is implied that the troops all knew Lucy was under the cowl.
It is also interesting that General Lane tells his men to have Reactron not re-enter the fight. He wants to see what Lucy can do on her own. He always seems to measuring people's worth, in this case his own daughter. No wonder Lucy is a bit addled. His love and respect is not unconditional.

I too am truly looking forward to the 'Who is Superwoman?' concluding chapter and I'm truly hoping beyond hope that Sterling will fully explain as to how exactly Lucy adopted "Kryptonian like super-abilities" and the main reason for her wanting to adopt "Superwoman" as her codename alias at that which we can all agree will end up making perfect sense in the end. Heh. :)
ReplyDeleteIt's the suit, and she's vying for daddy's love.
ReplyDeleteI'm telling you, it's that simple.
;)
--Yota.
Yeah that and she clearly had some inside help from Kandor...because killing Zor El advantaged certain groups and individuals on both sides a'la "Star Trek the Undiscovered Country".
ReplyDeleteBTW NICE to see Kara as a thinking sort of a heroine, always sifting thru the evidence trying to come up with a rational explanation. That was one of her hallmarks back in the 1960's when she was a bit of "She Sherlock"...
John Feer
Heh, well when you put it like that... ;)
ReplyDeleteI'm definitely looking forward to finding out exactly how Lucy came upon her abilities. And, yes, I know they most likely originate from the suit, but what about her heat vision? This has been a great story-arc, keeping us all in suspense the whole time.
ReplyDeleteOn a whole completely different tangent, I thought I would point out the following quote from a TV Guide article about tonight's "Smallville" season finale regarding a possible return by Kara:
"And as if the episode doesn’t seem crowded enough, Souders teases that “somebody new and old is going to show up.” This familiar face is likely to be back for Season 9. Given last week’s out-of-nowhere kicker that the lost Kryptonian city of Kandor apparently survived the planet's destruction and must be saved, our guess is cousin Kara (Laura Vandervoort), who was last seen in the fall, going off on a journey to find Kandor. Whatever the outcome, Souders says the Smallville writing team is already eager to start mapping Season 9. “The finale shakes a lot of things up,” she says. “It’s a good push-off for next year. Clark’s decisions in the finale force him on a path that he wasn’t expecting.”
I've stopped watching it since about January because I thought the show was really just starting to get a little ridiculous and, admittedly, also because it was sort of my own protest of the producers not bringing Kara back after her only appearance this season - which was the highest-rated episode of the season. So, I didn't know that Kandor (the city Kara went off to "find") was apparantly mentioned last week.
Here's the link to the article:

What do you think about this Anj? Should we maybe have a small post regarding this? How does anyone else feel about this? John, I know you personally would like her not to be brought back on the show because of the producers' horrible treatment of her. I fully concur w/ that sentiment. With that said, I thought "Bloodline" was one of her best written appearances, and if she can be writen and treated with dignity like that again, then I would definitely be thrilled w/ her return to the show.
OK....sorry about the tangent. Haha! I can't wait to find out the details of Superwoman next week! :)
Re Smallville, I've only got as far as (about) SE08 Ep 08, but was very gratified to see Kara back at least for a short time.
ReplyDeleteI really liked Smallville's Kara, the introductory episode where she was fighting Clark was glorious. However, she was criminally underused on the show.
I wouldn't mind Smallville posts on this blog. I'd like to add my own question;
Anj will you be buying/reviewing Power Girl?
Sterling will fully explain as to how exactly Lucy adopted "Kryptonian like super-abilities" and the main reason for her wanting to adopt "Superwoman" as her codename alias.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the post.
I am really interested more on the mind-games aspect of the Superwoman name than the powers. Should be a great read.

ReplyDeleteThanks for the post.
I will definitely post if Kara shows up again. They did leave it open that she might at the end of her last episode.
Let's hope that the producers realize that Kara was actually the strongest character on the show.

You are not the first person to ask me this question.
I wasn't planning on it to be honest. I am planning on buying at least the first arc though. Should I?
Hmmmmm ...
Hey Jason, I'm pretty sure its Zod. He was a phantom villain in 5/6 and his logo was in the trailer
ReplyDeleteAt this point I DO NOT trust the producers of Smallville wit the Supergirl property. In my heart of hearts I strongly suspect they would kill her off in an instant for cheap heat in the ratings.
ReplyDeleteHer removal from the storyline last October strongly resembled the way "Poochie" was excised from "Itchy and Scratchy" on the Simpsons...it betrayed a dislike of Supergirl and an outright contempt for her fanbase. So I'm hoping Vandervoort (much as I like her) is NOT in the season finale tonight. In short, WE CANNOT trust these people, they hate us and the character..It is that simple in my view.
All Power to the Kara Soviets
No Superman without Supergirl
Tomorrow belongs to She!
:D

Alas...Kara was not in the episode, so it looks like it was indeed Zod. But I don't know how he was "an old and new" or "familiar" face.
ReplyDeleteApparently, Zod has already been in an episode, no? Saying that he is both a new and old face means that his character has already been seen in the series, but I'd guess he's going to be played by a different actor...
ReplyDeleteOf course, that is just a guess; I've only recently started watching again, so there's a 5 or 6 years gap during which I really don't know what's happened.
Anj, There is a interview with Gates and Igle at wordballoon.com. You can also listen to it in the form of a podcast.
ReplyDeleteNot reading much here.. don't want spoilers.
ReplyDelete:)
But here's some humor for all:

Excellent work Mauricio!

Should I?Hmmmmm ...HELL YEAH you should! ;) I mean Kara Zor-El and Kara Zor-L are basically one and the same except the latter is from Pre-COIE E-2 and is the ELDER version while the other is from current E-0 and is a mere 16 year old instead.
ReplyDeletePower Girl #1 was sweet and I've been speaking to Jimmy up at Facebook where he's told me what's coming up in her monthly and it sounds real good Anj! ;)
Oh and add me as yet another who's truly looking forward to Smallville season 9 where hopefully Laura will be back as Kara now that Kandor has been mentioned for the 2nd time in the show and in turn really hope you cover it, Anj!
Lastly, y'all just HAVE to check out Newsarama right now because they have the official August Solicitations for the Superman-family up as well as a interview with Robinson and Rucka to go with it to boot! :D

ReplyDeleteThanks for the post.
I will see if I have time to review Power Girl #1. I already am behind with REBELS #3. This blogging is hard work ;-)
As for the Newsarama stuff, it all looks great and I will post early in the week about it.
