The Shrine: Supergirl 1:6 Deluxe Collector Action Figure

I realized that it has been about a month since the Supergirl 1:6 Deluxe Collector Action Figure came out and I still hadn't commented on it. The figure is really wonderful.

It is packaged in a slick box which opens like a book, like all the other Deluxe Figures which have been solicited before.

The figure is really beautiful with a Matrix-style costume with red skirt and pointy sleeves. She has a very lovely face, albeit with sculpted hair. She stands about 13inches tall. The figure also has a number of articulation points. To make sure the leg articulations don't sully the aesthetic, the legs are covered in hose.

I feel the biggest drawback to the figure is the sculpted hair. I would have preferred 'real' hair on such a great figure. The sculpted hair also limits the movement of the head at the neck. Outside of the sculpted hair, the only other slight complaint I have is that she is wearing heeled rather than flat boots.

The figure also comes with a number of extras: open hands and fists, figure stand, a length of chain, a bendable construction iron girder, and a Streaky.

I absolutely love the Streaky.

But I also really like the malleable girder. It is very realistically painted and is stiff enough that it holds the shape you mold it in. I currently have the figure in this action pose, flexing the Kryptonian muscles.

The cape is also nicely rendered with the yellow S-shield on the back.

Here is close up of Streaky. He also is sporting a nifty cape. Streaky only has articulation at the neck. Still, it is a great rendition of the Super-cat.

Unfortunately, the figure is too big to be part of the corner cabinet 'shrine'. As a result is it resides on my bookshelf of trades. I guess that means I need a bigger and better shrine to display stuff!

While pricey at $89.99, it is a really excellent figure and certainly is beautiful enough to be displayed like a statue.

  1. Heels? Never!
Kara was always one for modest flat heeled boots. Absent her long early seventies infatuation with more daring red ballet slippers...
Supergirl never sported high heels until John Byrne "improved" the character in 1987 by turning her into a gender-jumping extra-dimensional glop-droid.

  2. Geez, that's a little mean-spirited, isn't it..? Sheesh...

Anywho, that's an impressive collection, and the figure looks nice, but I'm not diggin' the dark red lipstick or the eyeshadow. I dunno... It just irks me.

Meanwhile, in the shot you've got of your "shrine," what is the figure on the top shelf, second from the right, from?

Even though Matrix went mad, became a pawn of Brainiac, and became a pawn of Luthor ... she was intrinsic to the PAD Supergirl which I loved. She will always get a bye for that.

If the plush figure is the first on the right, than the second is a DC Direct figure from a Superman series of figures. I still see it every so often on EBay.

I have been shocked at the resurgence of Streaky this year. I think it's great.

This is a nice little addition.

    Thanks.

I think it adds some energy to the figure.

  10. I mean no disrespect to Matrix's fans...everyone has a favorite I have to remember to defer to that.
But as far as I am concerned the decision to kill off the original Supergirl, expunge her from continuity AND forcibly expell her readership from the DC fan-base stands as the very definition of "mean spirited".

    Peace

    No worries here.

In fact I like hearing people's opinions of Supergirl in all her incarnations. There are plenty of people who really dislike PAD's version which I love.

I think hearing people's thoughts and concerns (if in a polite manner) about the character is great. Maybe people will point things out to me that I have missed.

    Thanks again.

  12. Man all I can say is that I'm truly loving the new Supergirl figure (as well as Streaky) and that that's sure one cool display shelf there at that! 8D

  13. How much would one of these go for brand new in the box? The guy told me he wants $500 for it! Is that a deal?
