Action Comics # 873
Written by Geoff Johns; Art by Pete Woods; Cover by Ladrönn
The "New Krypton"finale and a "Faces of Evil"issue! The rapidly rising tensions between the people of Kandor and Earth can only lead to expulsion or war! But even as the governments of Earth begin passing anti-Kryptonian laws, Superman's people have plans of their own – beyond anything you can imagine! Writer Geoff Johns and artist Pete Woods (SUPERMAN: NEW KRYPTON SPECIAL #1) wrap up this cosmically important chapter in Superman's life by introducing a major change to The Man of Steel's status quo!
The end of the New Krypton saga which will blossom into the entire next year of all the Super titles. This is the issue I am most looking forward to. Certainly, the resolution of this story and Alura's part in it will impact Kara greatly.
Final Crisis #6
Written by Grant Morrison; Art and covers by J.G. Jones and Carlos Pacheco and Jesus Merino
As the entire world turns against them, the last of Earth's Super Heroes must face the unstoppable power of the Gods of Apokolips for the final time. Supergirl vs. Mary Marvel! Superman vs. Darkseid! The fate of the Flash! And the incredible return of the New Gods! The End of Days has come and the ultimate war between good and evil will at last be decided on the battlefield of a broken world! And as the skies bleed, as the walls between universes crumble and fall, the ultimate threat to life makes its presence felt as an evil beyond imagining arrives to claim its prize. Mandrakk the Dark Monitor is coming and the DC Multiverse will never be the same again!
Okay, maybe this is the issue I am most looking forward to. It seems every time I reread Final Crisis, I 'get it' a little more. As the plot threads start to come together, we will finally see Superman vs. Darkseid and Mandrakk. And finally the Supergirl vs. Mary Marvel fight!
Written by Sterling Gates; Art by Federico Dalbochio; Cover by Mauro Cascioli
It's an all-new prelude to the upcoming, all-new JUSTICE LEAGUE #1! Prometheus once defeated the Justice League single-handedly, and with his latest lethal crime spree, he's moved to the top of the heroes' Most Wanted list. But what grave crimes has he committed, and what will he do to prevent capture? Learn the real face of evil that is Prometheus!
So not *really* linked to Supergirl, it is written by Sterlnig Gates. It does prelude the new Justice League she will star in. And it is Prometheus, one of my favorite villains (when he is written like Morrison wrote him). Should be a fun read.
And then, on some sites this is also coming out, although on the DC board it is scheduled for next week.
Final Crisis: Superman Beyond #2Written by Grant Morrison; Art by Doug Mahnke and Christian Alamy; Covers by J.H. Williams III and Doug Mahnke
The epic voyage beyond reality concludes in this heart-stopping finale as the multiverse-spanning quest for the elixir of the supergods reaches its end on the shores of a battlefield beyond imagination! But first, the Supermen of five worlds must lay bare the darkest secret of the multiverse, expose the shocking origin of the Monitors and come face to face with a seemingly unstoppable evil fuelled by the power of 52 living universes! As the sun sets on existence itself, Mandrakk, the dark Monitor, is awakening! Can Superman prevail against the ultimate enemy of life and find his way home before utter darkness falls across the cosmos? With a startling 3-D section and 3-D glasses, twists and turns that have to be seen to be believed and cosmic action on a mind-shattering scale, SUPERMAN BEYOND ties directly to FINAL CRISIS and cannot be missed!
The most heady and trippiest of the Final Crisis cross-overs, Superman Beyond seems to be the most closely linked mini to the main title. I love the Mahnke art. And there are enough beats to remind me of Morrison's Animal Man run to make me feel nostalgic to those pre-Vertigo days.
Reviews will be up as soon as possible!
Man won't be able to get all of these till tomorrow (Fri, 16th over here in Aus) now. Ah well.
ReplyDeleteAction Comics #873 - what in Tartarus is Alura up to now I wonder?? :/
Final Crisis #6 - FINALLY! The most hyped by Morrison Supergirl Vs. Mary Marvel cat fight we've all been waiting for happens in THIS issue! BEAT THE SNOT OUT OF HER, SUPERGIRL!!! :p
Also, I wonder if Darkseid will be wanting to reclaim Supergirl AFTER supposedly beating her cuz Superman or would Darkseid be actually contempt in having Mary Marvel as a 'fury' instead? :/
Faces of Evil: Prometheus #1 - Buying it not just because it's written by the fast growing fan fave Sterling Gates but also due to Prometheus (having been a LONGTIME fan fave of mine) which Grant Morrison came up with during his reign on the JLA title. Heh. :D
Final Crisis: Superman Beyond #2 - apparently as Anj said this isn't meant to be due out till next week (along with next issue of Supergirl) yet Newsarama are already giving people a 5 page sneak peek at this regardless as I type this.
Lastly, if anyone should be donning THAT particular flying pose it should rightfully be Supergirl if anyone really! Hell, if it wasn't for the 84 Supergirl movie's Helen Slater Supergirl striking that now iconic pose while in flight then I wouldn't have any problems with cuz Superman using it instead but I DO! Grrrr.
P.S. Anj, were you successful in making it to the comic shop in the end or will you unfortunately have to wait another day till you're able to get this lot? :/
