Sterling Gates on Superwoman

The Superwoman mystery continues to getsome buzz within the industry.

First, this house ad is in a bunch of DC comics this week, including Final Crisis #7. Hopefully that will garner some interest in the title.

And then, on Newsarama, Sterling Gates discusses the Superwoman identity guesses posted there earlier this month. http://www.newsarama.com/comics/010928-Superwoman-Gates.html . While he doesn't go in depth or really provide any new clues, Gates discusses why each one would have a reason to don the cape and cowl.

The top 5 candidates by their count were Thara Ak-Var, Karsta Wor-Ul, Alura, Lucy Lane, and Linda Danvers.

He also briefly discusses Supergirl 'Black' (the evil clone from the title's first arc), Lara Jor-El, Lyra Kam-Par (Alura's secretary), and Lesla Lar.

Here again are the results of the poll run on this blog last month. I admit I did not have Lara or Lucy Lane on the list. And Lyra Kam-Par had not been seen yet.

We only have a couple more months to figure this out! Let's keep the guesses coming!

  1. I am fully engaged in this debate but I fear anti-climax at the end of the day.
A couple of dots need to be connect regarding Superwoman:
1.) It must be a "surprise" to Kara within the context of her storyline and cast. If it's "Lesla Lar" for example, depending on the role-out it's a bit of a cheat.

2.) It has to take the aud by surprise...

getting these two concepts in synch will be difficult.

  2. Hoo-boy. Hmmm... the possibilities...

I don't think it's Lucy, because a) how in the world would she have gotten the powers of a Kryptonian? and b) General Lane sure was being less than fatherly to her if this is the case.

I don't think it's Linda (though it would be nice), because she has flame vision, not heat vision, and also because I sincerely doubt they're going to bring her back in such a capacity; just look at how things worked out for her in the latest issue of "Reign in Hell..." *sigh* Plus, I remember reading a quote somewhere that basically said Linda was a totally different Supergirl, and that she'll have no bearing on this Supergirl.

I really hope it's not Alura, because that would be too obvious/wierd. Same thing for Thara; we're all kind of half-expecting it...

I think there's a good chance it's going to be someone relatively new, but then DC has been bringing back a lot of pre-Crisis mumbo-jumbo lately (the Powers That Be trying to recapture their respective childhoods, no doubt), so there's just as good a chance that it'll be Kristen Wells, or Lesla Lar, or one of those folks.

And then, of course, there's also the mystery of who Flamebird and Nightwing are...

  3. If the last cover preview is 'true' to the story then Supergirl does know the person under the hood. If that is true, choices are down to: Alura, Kara's friend, 'Dark' Kara, Lesla Lar (as in looking just like her)

But she's older, maybe they'll pull off a 'Galatea' of some sorts, evil adult clone..

    Thanks for the post.

The problem with #2 is that the obvious candidates (Alura or Thara) are obvious and won't be too shocking.

    Hmmm ...

I completely agree with your assessments.

And I have put the Flamebird mystery on the back burner for now. Maybe Maxima?

Thanks for the post. I agree that the look on her face is one of recognition and shock.

Hmmm ... my guess of evil clone fits that.

  8. I just have a bad feeling about who might be under the hood...

even if it ends up being someone we didn't recognize before throught the series.

an evil clone,Alura turned bad, Linda, and Lesla Lar are all good possibilities though...

so I'm not ruling them out..

  9. I was also thinking that 'Lane' told her that he knew who she was..

Doesn't that change the candidates to those that are publicly known ?

Sounds like you have someone specific you are thinking off. Who??

Man how I truly loved seeing those adds and hear, hear to the last bit of your post at that! :D

Loved the suppose "top 5" candiadtes that Sterling responded to but I honestly think now that rather then Superwoman turning out to be the Science Police's own "Rachel" who's a been acting as a double agent for Alura AND Sam Lane I now believe she'll turn out to be Kandor's own Lelsa Lar or barring even that Superman's biological mom and Supergirl's very own aunt Lara-El instead!

  13. not really someone specific but I'm certain it has to do with someone's dark side..

    Linda's maybe...

    I mean...

who else has brown hair, bluee eyes and an anger management isuee?
