I want to see a little of that come back (okay, just the barefoot part!) I can't recall the details, but I'm sure Kurt Busiek showed Clark using a computer, memorising a million words in a second while on a plane flight, or something. I also didn't like that there were still hints of her being a bit of a dummy. I don't like the short hair cut either. I've liked Supergirl in her guest appearances, but I haven't had a strong like for the character in her own series since issue #18.

When can Supergirl get some self confidence and some brains? The emotional because she is a girl, less intelligent because she is blond or young, and the less powerful because of both does not work for me. Especially because she was full of confidence, outspoken, and much more interesting when she was first introduced.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2669531469217423923.post-55586565662626148922011-02-19T11:00:31.470-05:002011-02-19T11:00:31.470-05:00It's just a simple self-appraisal, over coffee...It's just a simple self-appraisal, over coffee, in quiet conversation with someone she trusts.

And you know, maybe she needed to hear that from Lois. I do have a slightly different take on the "not in his league" comment.

I don't want Supergirl to backslide in her opinion about herself either, but I actually really liked this particular scene. We all feel unsure about ourselves at times, particularly when being compared with a more successful and older person. And saying she's not in his league isn't necessarily bad. No tears, no tearing of her hair or running away. It's just a simple self-appraisal, over coffee, in quiet conversation with someone she trusts.

And you know, maybe she needed to hear that from Lois. It wasn't that long ago that Lois was telling Superman that Kara couldn't be trusted. She knows Lois has forgiven her, and even cares for her enough to make sure she see Cat Grant's almost-apology column in the Planet. Superman trusts Lois more than anyone in his world, it would be important to hear Lois imply that Kara's competent to fill Superman's shoes.

So I liked that part of the story. Those two panels scratched an itch I needed scratched.Gearnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2669531469217423923.post-31493373318879761242011-02-18T18:38:19.177-05:002011-02-18T18:38:19.177-05:00Hi, Anj. I haven't heard anything about "Supergirl" being cancelled. I know a lot of books are on the chopping block to make way for Flashpoint. But after the masterful Gates/Igle run and Kara joining the Justice League, it's clear that "Supergirl" isn't just a second-tier book, as it was for its first 33 issues. Kara is an active, vital part of the DCU now. I think she's here to stay for many years to come. (However, I truly feel that if Gates hadn't come along when he did and done such an amazing job, the book would have been cancelled a year ago.)

Aaron

AaronAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2669531469217423923.post-16413549106367530052011-02-18T09:33:26.795-05:002011-02-18T09:33:26.795-05:00I think the stated aim of Nick Spencer's arc w...I think the stated aim of Nick Spencer's arc was to establish Kara as the leader of her generation of heroes, as Superman is of his.

I agree that there were a couple of missteps, but I think I'll write to the lettercol asking to keep the new team.

Thanks for the post.

I like the idea of writing in support of this team.
