Kara was really treated well here.

But as you say, the Diana fans have a lot to complain about.

Another point to debate is whether or not these cross-over events are still viable or even worthwhile as a means to goose fan interest....

I agree that 'event fatigue' is something I am feeling. But the comics continue to sell through the roof and so the companies will continue to do them.

The thing to me is that these events occur so quickly that any stories that could be mined from them can't be done.

I collect a handful of Marvel titles. They have gone from House of M to Civil War to Secret Invasion to Dark Reign. So major changes have occurred there on a yearly basis. Was the fallout of Civil War really chronicled or investigated in-depth enough before Secret Invasion changed that?

I hope DC let's their titles breathe a little bit before changing things up again.Anjhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10023193805914075078noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2669531469217423923.post-32991739017111634662009-02-02T08:47:00.000-05:002009-02-02T08:47:00.000-05:00And I was correct, there's such a lot going on in ...And I was correct, there's such a lot going on in FC it needs to be re-read and/or read in one go to fully get everything that's going on. The series was pretty wild. But it didn't feel like the 'crises of ALL crises'. The biggest change is the dissolution of the Monitor culture which was only recently brought back into continuity anyways.

But in the end, it was a decent story. So I gave it a B.Anjhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10023193805914075078noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2669531469217423923.post-43833935137434927932009-02-02T08:43:00.000-05:002009-02-02T08:43:00.000-05:00The overman pages reminded me of vader's 'nooooooo...The overman pages reminded me of vader's 'nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo' in episode 3 so much! Pretty funny.

The thing that could be confusing is that Overman really never heakld her like that (I think). He didn't know she was dead. So he could have never held her body.

I do think it was meant to be an homage to COIE but without the surrounding throng you are right. It is more to the inside art.Anjhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10023193805914075078noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2669531469217423923.post-16632551219897893082009-02-01T16:13:00.000-05:002009-02-01T16:13:00.000-05:00To be honest Final Crisis had some nice bits, but ...To be honest Final Crisis had some nice bits, but never exceeded the sum of it's parts. Morrison's discursive style has it's strengths but it is also an artful way to avoid paying off on any intriguing notions or tantalizing promises.
On the other hand Supergirl came off well, which means she wasn't snuffed in the eternal search for cheap heat...so as a Kara fan I'm satisfied.
I'd a paid money to see Supergirl cold-cock Vampire Ultraman from her over the should carry position....playin' possum as it were.
Wonder Woman fans and Mary Marvel adherents have a legitimate beef with DC with both their faves looking like dupes and or outright thugs in this storyline.
Another point to debate is whether or not these cross-over events are still viable or even worthwhile as a means to goose fan interest....

Any takers?

John FeerAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2669531469217423923.post-39507899953416379322009-02-01T14:24:00.000-05:002009-02-01T14:24:00.000-05:00I decided to re-read the first 6 issues of FC befo...I decided to re-read the first 6 issues of FC before reading number 7 as I figured I would have been lost otherwise. Up at Comic Bloc some of DC's pro's have just now came out and officially stated that we won't be seeing/feeling the aftermath effects of FC till that of March itself.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2669531469217423923.post-14483734390361949712009-01-31T09:58:00.000-05:002009-01-31T09:58:00.000-05:00Hmmm, with all due respect Anj as well to Grant Mo...Hmmm, with all due respect Anj as well to Grant Morrison I just felt utterly underwhelmed when re reading this title as a whole and comparing this 3rd Crisis mega event to that of it's 2 others prior. :/

I mean how could he not want to follow up on Alexander Luthor's decapitated 'god finger' (last seen in Infinite Crisis) that could've been a good way to bring back the Pre-COIE E-3 dude in question here who'd go all round 2 with the DCU! Or bring back Pre-COIE E-2 Wonder Woman? (Who unlike Kal-L didn't actually die but was teleported to another plane of existence in Infinite Crisis) not to mention Superboy-Prime being brought in to this all at that! It's little things left over like that that I was truly hoping Grant would've followed up on in the supposed "final crisis of ALL crises" as he implied it being all along yet didn't feel like it at all in the end sadly.

Anj said...

Well, we eventually learn that the voice-over is from Lois Lane who is writing 'the last story', the events around the end of this conflict with the plan to rocket it into the chaos around them in case Superman's plan fails. Maybe that way someone may find it and eventually read about the strength of humanity.

Now THAT was a really cool scene in my honest opinion! Also, did you happen to notice that the particular 'blue and red' colored rocket that they built was actually THE Pre-COIE E-1 continuity very own Superman's! OMG, just how cool was that!!! :D

The Question, who was at Checkmate headquarters at the time of the explosion, says that Mister Miracle's mother boxxx was able to boom tube out most people to safety. She sent them to the Kamandi universe where they could then begin their mission of finding the Supermen.

So the surviving residents of "New Earth"/E-0 were shunted off to E-51? :/

The Question tells Overman about the death of Overgirl. While the panel to the right obviously cannot have happened, it does show the grief Overman would have for his cousin's death. It is yet another riff on The Pieta and (I thought) a little nod to Kara's death in COIE #7.

Trust DC to just HAVE to include a Superfamily member being offed in one of their Crisises here. *Sighs*

The power of story is a running theme throughout many of Morrison's book including this one. We see that the events of Point A, the war with Darkseid on Earth, are being told like oral history to the surviving children on the Watchtower by Supergirl and Wonder Woman. Good old Streaky seems interested too.

And we see more of Superman's preparations. It looks as though he is shrinking and freezing the survivors on the Watchtower in hopes of reviving them later. Why should they be part of the warfront with Mandrakk?

Shrinking Earth's population in ice cube trays! Another Morrison throw away idea, one that I rather like.

Now this particular part made no sense to me because I thought Morrison had the Question already Boom Tube the remanding surviving residents of all the Watch towers sent to E-51? :/

But we still haven't heard the last of events of Point A on Earth. After suffering through a whole series of being Darkseid's slave, Wonder Woman finally has a brief moment. Freed from the morticoccus bacterium (I guess by Frankenstein somehow), she crushes her Fury mask in disgust and binds Darkseid in her lasso.

This is one area where I truly felt lost. How did she get free? Why the need to bind Darkseid if he is already dead at the hands of Black Racer?

Because (and even Grant Morrison himself even came clean about this) he basically hates Wonder Woman! Now THAT really peeved me off! It was all fine and dandy for him to show Superman and Batman at their best but come Wonder Woman he apparently had 0 interest in the 3rd DC world wide famous icon and it clearly showed in how he so easily allowed her to succumb to that damn virus BEFORE the residents of "New Earth"/E-0!

Now that to me has tainted my respect for Grant Morrison! Not only did he dis this icon but he also dissed her long time fans world wide in opting to go this route and speaking as a HUGE long time fan of Wonder Woman's as well as that of Supergirl's I don't know if I can ever forgive him for doing this to her where in Infinite Crisis Geoff handled her with the utmost respect instead.

The last pages show an elderly Anthro finally passing away.

And yes, we see Batman in Anthro's cave ....

So Batman managed to be sent back to just after Anthro's own death sometime BC thanks to Darkseid Omega Sanction beams? Then exactly what was Superman holding that was garbed in the Bat suit all charred up? The Batman personality split from Bruce Wayne?? And on top of that the only way that Bruce is going to be able to return to the Post-FC DCU E-0 continuity time era that he needs to is if Booster Gold discovers Bruce being displaced in time and in need of rescuing other wise this will just cause the Post-FC DCU E-0 continuity to force Dick Grayson in to being THE Batman instead of Bruce according to it's continuity with the lack Bruce's absence to being the founder of the mantle of Batman as well as the one who originally joins the JLA now too.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2669531469217423923.post-57724636087058448472009-01-31T08:43:00.000-05:002009-01-31T08:43:00.000-05:00The overman pages reminded me of vader's 'nooooooo...The overman pages reminded me of vader's 'nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo' in episode 3 so much!
