Yes, jobs were offered easily, but i felt that this demonstrated the respect that for and reputation of the daily planet among the dcu. it worked for me. If DC has a bad Superman issue, what hope can there be for any other title they publish. And admittedly, I haven't read this issue myself, but I've read preview pages and reviews and it really sounds to me like this was a bad Superman issue.
